Hi everyone! As everyone can read, I would like to know the pros and cons of the PC and the PS3. I know PC has more, and way better beyond compare of console gaming, but why? What does the PS3 have that the PC doesnt? Im looking into getting a set gaming computer (Not my current laptop, to many hard drive issues in the past) specifically for MineCraft and other games. Please remember, I am not asking for bashing. I love my PS3, and would never bash anyone for playing on something else. Well, maybe except the Xbox, and only if we are good friends. Lol.
While I love being able to play Minecraft on my Ps3, the PC version will remain the best version to get. Infinite worlds, free texture packs and skins, modding capability, larger servers, easier to use controls, etc..
On topic, in which I forgot "what does the PS3 have the PC doesn't?" Well, I think the Nether ambiance /music is new to the consoles which PC doesn't have without the aid of resource packs. Feel free to correct me but so far in my few years now of playing it on PC, there never was special music or ambiance to the Nether.
One of the cons with the PS3 is that the controls are very buggy. And the worlds are quite small. But it have some features i miss with the PC version.
Buggy controls? I may have missed the initial release (downloaded it after the update) but I see any bugs in the controls yet. What are these bugs?
A pro for me is being able to play with my PS3 friends. I allowed friends of friends on my server though and that got annoying rather quickly. Playing with my controller is another plus. No more overuse of the sneak mechanic. Wish the world was bigger and the animals are so scarce, it feels like a barren wasteland. I hope this is improved with future updates. Mushrooms can be planted and grown in broad daylight though. Still, I don't regret getting it. It's just that the future updates just can't arrive soon enough and it's frustrating. I also kind of wish I held out for a PS+ sale or something. 20 bucks is kind of steep.
PC PRO'S:
1) Items and features that do not exist in the ps3 version (horses, villager trading, command blocks, hoppers ect) but this will be fixed with future updates
2) worlds are bigger which can be a CON depending on your personal preference.
3) MODS
4)large MP servers (if you're in to that)
PC CON'S:
1)I don't like keyboard and move when playing games, I feel more comfortable with the ps3 controller, also why I don't own an xbox the controller is just to clumpy. but many would find this a PRO.
PS3 PRO'S
1) Small maps make it possible to completely fill the entire are of the map with your creations.
2) MP games are smaller and anyone can basically run their own server/game where they are the boss very easily.
3)an easy platinum lol
4)if you never played before you get to experience what it was like in the beginning and see what it was like for the rest of us before all the updates.
PS3 CON'S:
1) NO MODS
2) Updates are taking forever so if you have played minecraft before you feel kind of limited as to what you can do until the game is updated.
3) even though the map is limited it continues past the border so if a creeper explodes and destroys that part of the map you can fix it and unless you build a wall you can walk right around the edge..getting in to places you really soulden't..like ym mountain fortress with a view of the sunset..but all my traps are useless since you can just walk along the border and right in since I built in in the corner of the map...really that border thing needs to be fixed as I hate having part of my map destroyed and not being able to fix it.
4)MP games are limited so if you have more friends then the limited number they'll have to take turns.
That's about all i can think of, updates will fix all the issues I have with the games as I enjoy the smaller maps and the limited number for MP is fine with me since I mostly only play with my daughter anyway. The border thing needs to be fixed though as I really can't stand not being able to fix that one damn spot lol..but mostly aside from the things that still need to be added, it's all up to what you prefer as to which is better..if you don't use mods in the PC version then you don't care, same with MP. and map size...so really it's only the border and the updates that need attention imo.
A lot of people on this forum seem to think the PS3 can't handle the full version of Minecraft due to having 256mb of RAM. As long as the bugs are fixed I honestly don't care if anything more gets put into the game or not, but you can't compare a PS3's specs to a PC like that. The PS3 has a totally different system architecture, running multiple processors and giving it more capability. I don't know if it'll run the full game or not but even though it has 256mb, due to it's configuration it performs more like 1.5-2gb. Unfortunately this also makes it harder to program a PS3 compared to PCs and other consoles.
I feel like i'm, the only one who hates mods, just another reason i prefer console gaming as a whole.
you know you don't have to use mods right and that 99% of mods are not used for cheating but to add to the base game they are created for. Also many mods get purchased from the creator and added to the games they were made for or in sequel, not sure why anyone would hate something that does not have to effect them unless they choose to. That's why many games are coming out with map editors and other things now that let players create their own content.
The only things I prefer about the console versions are playing with a controller (I hate keyboard/mouse gaming) and the simplified crafting interface (which is a result of using a controller instead of a mouse). Other than that the PC version is far superior.
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the simplified crafting interface in the 360/PS3 editions and that you begin the game with a map (both pluses IMHO).

For me, the issue is price for a large household. My understanding is that for each member of my household who plays minecraft, which is 6, I would need to buy a separate license on PC for each player to go online under their own account. Plus there is the matter of how many computers I would need. So for 6 players, I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 which can handle up to 8 players for a total of $40 US (two games) and I already own the consoles. For the PC, that would be $120 for the licenses plus three or four more computers capable of handling the game since I already have two, maybe three, that can handle the game if it can run in linux. All my PC's are linux anyway.

I think they make it worse. The simplified crafting interface could lead to limited recipes and you can't copy maps like you can in the PC version.
Thanks for all the replies people! I truly appreciate them.
Also, I'm sure we all can be adult enough to be able to post on topic, or have a civil debate over topics and differences. If not, well then I hope that this thread would be deleted, because if we cant band together and enjoy the differences in each others game play and experiences, then we shouldn't be talking and discussing on forums designed to help each other.
Why not give us a port of the pc version . Whats the point of playing a old beta .
None of those are valid points as the PS3 version hasn't been out long enough. Most of you need to realise you can't just port stuff over to the PS3 as it's not configured like anything else and therefore also takes longer to program.
I guess i am the only one who loves the world size on console :/
It's not that it's bad, but being restricted is never good, and especially if you've played the PC version, getting a taste of infinity and actually having the ability to really get lost adds an entire layer of gameplay and immersion that the console versions will never see.
I have played PC a lot. I prefer console maps because you can see everything on 1 map. if PC had a size option that would be cool!
I'm sorry but that's an incredibly lazy reason to like having such a lame size limit imposed upon you. Making new maps and compiling them isn't even a thing.

Honestly how much space do you need? Even dividing the map into 8 parts its not like 8 players would ever run out of recources. The only thing that sucks about limited map size is that you are dealt the hand you get, so if you get a crappy world thats mostly ocean, you either got to run with it or start over. You can't just move 3000 blocks for a whole new continent.
My biggest gripe with console minecraft is the limitations on mob spawning. Sky farms and golem farms aren't even usable in console, and even mob spawn boxes spawn at stupid low rates. If they'd fix that, I'd be okay with not having hoppers for a while.

It isn't just about resources, it's about the entire layer of gameplay console versions are missing out on. The ability to get lost (not to mention PC players aren't given maps right from the get-go). Also, starting a seed in which you spawn within an ocean biome means you're most likely not going to ever have access to all the animals. On PC version, you could at least go on an epic sailing adventure to find your way out of the ocean and find animals to bring home. Or an entire gameplay scenario where you pretend you've crash landed on an island and use the resources on your island to get you back to the mainland shore. This just isn't possible on console versions.

but the main difference is that the ps3 is a console, and the pc isn't

Con: I hope you enjoy playing Minecraft versions from over a year ago. Oh yeah, and enjoy that huge 800x800 world size. /sarcasm
