I guess some people would rather just wander around and gawk at the scenery than actually play the game.
Arguing discussing console vs PC world size will be moot shortly anyway when the new console's versions comes out. Those worlds will be plenty big enough for anybody. I'm still trying to figure out what the point is discussing the 'old' version.
It isn't just about resources, it's about the entire layer of gameplay console versions are missing out on. The ability to get lost (not to mention PC players aren't given maps right from the get-go). Also, starting a seed in which you spawn within an ocean biome means you're most likely not going to ever have access to all the animals. On PC version, you could at least go on an epic sailing adventure to find your way out of the ocean and find animals to bring home. Or an entire gameplay scenario where you pretend you've crash landed on an island and use the resources on your island to get you back to the mainland shore. This just isn't possible on console versions.
I've never had problems finding animals on my ps3. In fact, we frequently have to exterminate all the animals in town... not to mention wolves spawning in my farms -.-

Run a survival island seed and you'll know what I'm talking about. Specifically the seed "Sprite". Good luck finding anything other than a couple mooshrooms. On PC version, you'd be able to travel the ~3000 meters to get out of the ocean and find animals on the mainland. This isn't possible on console versions.

A little OT, but thanks for that seed. It looks very intriguing. Challenge Accepted (providing my system stops locking up)

Wow.....KissyKaede sounds like she should be a PR person for the PC version. We get it. The PC is a billion times infinity better. And according to you, because of its infinite size. I started this thread because I wanted to know peoples opinions on what they like the best, and what they hate about both versions. Obviously size is going to be one of them. I love the console version. If anything, its a starter and warm up for the PC. Will it be totally, and utterly different? Yes. Will I have to re-learn how to play the game? Most definitely. But who says that my gameplay experience through console is any less then yours?
Rant over, so can we please go back to having an educated and adult discussion about this? Or will this have to be flagged for deletion?

It's not ranting, I'm simply stating that we're running on a version a year or so behind the main version, and expressing my views on some of the broken mechanics that haven't been patched yet. Isn't that what this thread is for? Showing the pros and cons of pc vs PS3 minecraft? I've stated the pros and cons and looks like you can't deal with it.
Hopefully I'm missing something, but the lighting on PS3 appears to have its minimum value raised slightly, not for a performance reason I'm guessing, but more than likely to make the game more accessible. Being able to see your surroundings in a cave without a light source is pretty disappointing, and night time on the surface looks as dark as when it's raining during the day on PC. This change has taken away any sense of fear I had (which is the most exciting part of this game for me on PC) for exploring and has made it a mindless and forgiving exercise.
Ps3 pro: You can play with your friends without port forwarding and logmein hamachi.
Easy crafting
Simple controls.
Ps3 Con: Limited worlds
Missing blocks
No hoppers/comparators
Lots of bugs still even after the patch.
Pc Pro: Lots of mods/skins
Infinite worlds
Superior Redstone
All building blocks are available
No bugs
Up to date
More Mobs
Pc Con: Controls can be hard to learn at first (if you don't play a lot of pc games)
Port forwarding to play a game with your friends on your own world.
Zombies are way to smart now.
There is more but this is just a small list off the top of my head.

Go into the settings and change the gamma control. Keep turning it down a little at a time until the lighting is how you like it.

Well, the pc is the main gaming device mojang is working on. So, that means that there will be more updates in pc faster than console, adding stuff and fixing bugs. But for ps3, mostly just 4j studios is working on that, wich makes it sort of even out.
Firstly the ps3 is on the first version, thats why you dont have horses ect
Well, actually the 360 is up to 13 versions now and it doesn't have horses yet either.
But not to worry, IF the consoles do get horses, they'll all get 'em at the same time. (To me, there's more important features they could add before horses).
Thanks all for the non flamey debate! As an avid gamer, I want to teach my kids the pros and cons of modding, without overwhelming their young brains with options. While the unlimited world seems so inviting, I think I might go for the ps3 one. Oh wait, I have games I need to finish. PC it is. Overwhelmed little brains.
Well.... I feel like I can make a more informed decision then.
i dont play modded minecraft (i dont like minecraft) ps3 have cool features, almost no lag, and good controls, the only things i miss from pc are the servers, skins and bigger worlds, other than that, pc version i mainly use it for playing on servers and on ps3 i have all of my survival worlds, so depends of what you like, mods or vanilla
there are two things i miss from the PC version are mods and command blocks. but i prefer to play on ps3 because i hate keyboard/mouse controls. i miss horses too
I don't know why this 'old' thread keeps on going ("Cause you're posting in it again, silly!").
But, that's a very good point:
like the fact that in the PS3 edition you are assisted in building items at your crafting table by being shown the requirements. I'm a beginner and would hate to be faffing around on the PC trying to work out the most miniscule details for myself.
The consoles were designed for those just starting out with MC from the get-go (hence the Easy Crafting and Tutorial). There's a lot to learn for either one, but the PC does make it much more difficult for those just starting out than it needs to. (Just look at the size of the wiki.) Consoles weren't designed for "advanced" (PC) players, though "advanced" players probably complain about it as much as they play on it.
In other words, I feel PC and console versions are designed for two different markets. Those trying to make them alike defeat the purpose of each.
Minecraft PC is much better than Minecraft PS3, but I prefer Minecraft PS3 because of the bigger screen and a controller which makes it easier and funner to play with..

This is brilliant news. I tried looking for a setting like this but must have missed it some how. Thanks for the info, consider my gripe revoked

You are going to have to try way harder than that.
