Can you make villagers spawn?
;tldr;
So my son and I were playing on his map... Well he decided to start building in the middle of the village on our map... Well he played by himself for a while and came back to me that there was only one villager left.... then none.
So I was reading in the Wiki that if you have enough doors in an area that they will start to spawn? I was just wondering if I build the village back with more doors and houses if they would respawn... Then I would make some iron golems to keep it nice and protected...
Has anyone tried this? If not I guess I will just do it and post my findings...
if you're in creative mode you can just hatch them from an egg (best way if building your own village), if you are in survival it can take awhile before they move in (or so i read)...but I have never tested that in survival as it does not make sense or else villagers would start spawning in your bases and i have never had a villager spawn in any of my bases unless I put them there....but if you expand an already existing village more villagers WILL spawn pretty fast. I could be wrong about then not spawning in a village made from scratch, but why would they spawn there and not a base.
TL;DR I don't think they will spawn in a village made from scratch..but you can hatch them in creative mode or expand an existing village.
I have a similar problem, I only have the one village at the beginning there were a number of villagers, the other day a made a couple of trips back to it and there were no villagers at all. If trading becomes accessible it won't help as I don't really want to switch to creative as I'm still working on trophies.

zombies killed them sadly...they had a life ahead of them
On a similar topic, I've been working on trying to get an Iron Golem to spawn on my PS3 world. I read somewhere that if you get enough villagers to spawn, an Iron Golem will spawn by itself to protect the village. I commandeered a small, naturally spawned village and started building little huts. I see the villagers mating. I see little baby villagers running around. I have pobably 10 or 12 villagers in total now, but so far no Iron Golem.
Can anyone confirm that Iron Golems will spawn in the PS3 version? Does this only work on the PC so far?
once villagers leave you cant get them back unless you find another village and transfer them using a mine-cart or building doors to attract them to the next village by removing doors. or in creative.

sounds like a PC only deal, hopefully details like these get added. so far my mini game is to burn down their village and TNT it. my friend told me his mini game was protecting the villagers which lasted 5 days for him. so he didn't win his mini game i guess. looking forward to more interaction with them. they should be aggressive if bothered, the code already exists for zombie pigmen. but i hear they don't aggro on PC so maybe not here ever either. there is chain mail increative and i was told that comes from trading with villagers.

I can confirm that iron golems spawn when you have enough villagers. I've had four spawn in my current world in the ps3 version.
As for the original poster, once you get down to below two villagers, that's it as far as I know unless you go into creative. However, once a world goes into creative, then that world stops updating the leaderboards, whenever that function is fixed.
My recommendations for large villages is to first fence off the village so that no one can get in or out without using the gate. Otherwise not only will the villagers get killed before a golem spawns, but the villagers may also wander off and then get eaten. Then build new buildings with lots of doors facing the outside. Interior doors don't count, because the doors must have one side which can get the sun shining on them to put it simply.

Update:
My son went through and repaired all the original spawn buildings, they were damaged by creepers. We had repaired them somewhat before but not with the matching materials. So once all the building materials matched, doors were replaced, and roofs fixed, he left the village to go back to spawn. I believe he said he stayed logged in for a while then exit/saved. When I got home last night he logged back in and villagers had respawned back in the village. Since he didn't return to the village before he logged out of the game I am not sure how long it took for the villagers to respawn. This time I did a better job of light management around the village and spawned an Iron Golem using iron blocks and a pumkin recipe.
So my next test is to replicate a village and leave it be and see if villagers spawn... It might be a deal where if you are present alot in the village they might not respawn, hence why they don't spawn in your house ect.

Well normally I come home and just join in on my son's game to play with him... Well last night I got on to farm some wood and other things to get ready for an epic mining blitz this weekend. Well when I went to log in I saw that there was a note that the world had been saved in creative... So I asked him this morning... and he had indeed went into creative and spawned villagers... I wish there was a way to lock worlds to prevent this... I know on the PC version they are putting that in and I think it is a great idea... Esp for families with multiple people playing in a world. I wanted to help him get all the trophies but I am not looking forward to starting a new map after spending prob close to 80 hours already on this map.
Sorry for the false hope.. I am going to try building another village on my map and seeing if I can get villagers to populate it.
Iron Golems do indeed spawn on PS3 minecraft. My large village has 5 I believe. Anyone know if there is a set number of villagers per map? I started building houses near the smaller village to try to get it populated as well, but so far nothing is happening. The large village has tons of people, so I thought maybe there is a max number?

Odds are that you've got too much stuff in the center of town.
Iron Golems only spawn within a 16-block-wide square centered at the averaged position of all the doors, and they need a 4-tall, 2x2 clear space to spawn. So if you went to a village where there's a building at the center and put a big ring of huts around it with plenty of doors, you could end up with your required 21 doors and 10 villagers but still no golem. The golem would keep trying to spawn as coded, find that there's ceilings/walls and lamp-posts in his space, and fail to materialize.
If you really want an iron golem and don't want to make it look like you built something arbitrary to make the golem appear, make sure your town has a park or the like in the middle - someplace that would suit a town, but won't stop the golem from spawning.
Lots of the newer iron-farm tutorials on youtube use a mod to the PC version which will draw out this area for you so that you can see and understand it better. Whilst you can't get that mod for PS3, it might help to watch one of the tutorials to get the visual on what's going on.
There is a population max... I haven't heard for sure what it is on the PS3
Bummer. Can anyone enlighten me on how to move villagers via minecart? If you push them in, don't they just hop right back out? I am guessing I could slaughter a few like I did with the farm animals, but not sure how to do that either without the Golems slaughtering me for touching the villagers!!

LOL, don't feel too bad by the way. My son did the EXACT same thing to me on the xbox version, only for a dumber reason in my opinion haha. He thought the game was buggy because there were no endermen around, so he went to creative for the sole purpose of spawning some
If you need to start again, I just posted an easy seed in the seeds section here http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2306740-great-starter-survival-seed-coords-with-tons-of-iron-diamons-redstone/
tons of villagers in the one village too and lots of resources. Good luck!
Did you make the potion of weakness first then use the golden apple?
Not sure this will help there just isn't an option other than for me to eat the apple.
Good news is I have 1 villager which if I can keep alive will help with trading. Can't seem to get any more.

You can't cure any zombie. It has to be a zombie villager which I'm pretty sure isn't in the PS3 version yet.

I can confirm this does not work for ps3 :-(
