I dug out a 60x60 hole to bedrock for my guardian farm and I can’t get any guardians to spawn. It’s a new survival world on Switch. The guardians were spawning initially. They even fell out of the sky down to some cave water way below their actual spawn as I was digging. After completing the hole, I set up different test tanks (Open top or closed top) to check that they were spawning. The tanks are 2 wide/4 deep and between Y39-61. I Afk’d for a couple hrs and nothing. Restart and afk for a couple hrs and nothing. The game is not on peaceful.
Edit: I started filling in the big actual tank with water and they came back. Idk why the test tanks wouldn’t work still though. Big tank is separated by columns so the width and depth of the water inside is the same as the test tanks.
Edit2: Guardians won’t spawn with signs or fence gates underneath the water. When I tested the big tank and it worked, I hadn’t placed the signs, but the non-working test tanks did not have signs. I’m so confused. My Xbox world used to work with the signs. I’m going to have to tear down and redesign this enormous tank FML.
Edit3: I switched to testing a method where the guardians get pushed over the edge from flowing water since the drop directly over sign/fence gate method isnt working. I did not tear down the roughly 40x40 empty tank yet lol. The main tank is to fit inside a 60 diameter circle and my whole area is a 60 diameter square so I used the corners for this test. Now guardians are floating in mid air once they reach the edge until they target a player. Shooting them doesn’t even bring them down until their death. Moving into their targeting distance is too close for more to spawn. Tried trap doors on the edge and they quit spawning even though none of the spawn water touched the trap doors. Can’t get snow golems to work. I’m throwing in the towel. Does anyone have a decent guardian farm on Switch?! This is stupid.
