How long until we have everything that PC has?? This game has been out for ages and making us go back to the stone age for consoles is extremely frustrating....
Bedrock moved us as close as we've ever been to having the same functions as the PC. That said, it will probably happen eventually but who knows when. I could imagine it may have something to do with Console Hardware being less powerful than that of standard desktops these days, but I'm speculating because I don't know. It probably will never be exactly the same.
The goal of bedrock is to have a unified version of the game that runs on all supported platforms and is the same no matter where you play (console, mobile, and win10), not to match java (the first Minecraft). They have made that abundantly clear by changing many of the technical aspects of the game from java/legacy console. If you mean when will switch catch up to current win10 version, then they are working very hard to get there as soon as possible, for both the playerbase and for the sake of making future development easier to implement across multiple operating systems at the same time (this has been stated in interviews). At this point the switch is new ground for the development team as it is a relatively new system. Not to mention the fact that it has come to light in the past month that they needed to completely re-write the rendering code in order to implement the 4k 'super duper' graphics pack (that the switch cannot run) in a stable way and optimize rendering in general. The good news is, when they get it sorted out the game will render quicker and use less resources to do so, hopefully improving the experience for all bedrock players, regardless of what resource pack you use.
So you're saying that the Switch will not be able to run the Super Duper Graphics pack at all? Or did you suggest they are re-writing it to fit the Switch?
As of right now the only console that is confirmed to be able to run the super duper graphics pack is the x-box one-x. One and One-s do not have the hardware to run the enhanced graphics at reasonable frame rates. Even win10 owners will have to have a high end pc to to run it (like gtx1060 4Gb video card or more). The Switch is basically a calculator compared to a one-x, so I highly doubt Nintendo users will ever see it, no matter how much optimization the dev team does to the rendering engine.
'Shaders' as they are sometimes called are extremely hardware intensive and require top of the line video components to render the game at playable frame rates. These types of resource packs have been available for java edition for years from various third party software developers. Mojang has promised to take shaders to a whole new level with complete integration of 3d models and particle effects, ambient animations and dynamic lighting, making it possibly one of the most hardware intensive resource packs that has ever been produced for this game. The demo videos we were shown were so short because they had so much trouble getting it to run on super high end stuff (likely the best money can buy). When it was announced we were told it would roll out within the year, but shortly thereafter we were told it would be delayed and haven't really heard anything about it since then up till this month. Now we hear that they took what is essentially a brand new game and gutted part of it and started from scratch, just to make this resource pack work, and the vague answers given in the interview seems to point to at least somewhere in 2019 before its available.

When you say PC do you mean java edition?
