My server just reset for the official release of 1.8 so I'm in the process of making a base. I'll post some pictures later, although my designs probably will look terrible lol
This is mine, nothing really fancy, and while I've made more organized bases in other worlds I've never changed the layout of this base since I first built it one and a half years ago:
Main room:
Work room (this was the first part I built after spawning, building the rest after some days/weeks):
Storage room; I need a LOT of space to store all the ores I mine while caving (as blocks, so those full chests have a lot of iron in them...), which is most of my gameplay; I consider what I've explored underground a far greater accomplishment than any bases I've built:
I originally made this area for a tree farm, before I started using jungle wood instead due to being much more effective at getting a lot of wood (for torches), then made it into an animal pen with some trees left for decoration:
Pets (I've never named them, sort of like the animals I have, I don't kill them for items, or my villagers, which I don't trade with, except for fun):
View from outside:
On the left in the above screenshot you can see one of the corridors enclosing part of my rail system, which interconnects several other secondary bases (mostly level with my main base/just above sea level); I've actually been reworking the rail system over the last couple days, moving it (all several thousand blocks!) deeper underground so it doesn't cut across the surface:
Rendering of the area around my base; you can also see how Swiss-cheesed the ground is (digging straight down is definitely a bad idea on this world, look at all of the lava on the right side):
Also of interest, here is a nighttime view of the area around my base at the surface and underground (so only caves I've lit up are shown), using the developmental version of Unmined (some areas are covered by the bottom of rivers/lakes which should be removed in the finished version):
You can also see a small secondary base I built to the right of center (to the upper-right is another village); there are several others scattered around the world (looking at this, I'm surprised I actually made a secondary base so close to my main base; the others are hundreds of blocks apart, then again, this was way back before I no longer minded going out at night, getting killed often when surfacing at night). And yes, all of those lit-up areas, especially on the right side, are exposed caves (most of the ones near my base have been sealed off, including an entire exposed ravine); I did say it is like Swiss cheese underground, moreso than many other seeds, even by pre-1.7 standards.

Very simple, yet provides the necessities of survival.
Great base.

Wow, there are some really interesting and cool builds I wish I could make! I'm still trying to get better at building but well, it's okay I guess.
about two weeks ago I decided I wanted a craftbukkit server in 1.7.9 (since there is no 1.8 yet), but then I decided that I actually want to play 1.8, so I switched to a vanilla server. I copied my builds (all individually, and leaving some structures behind) but I'm not too happy with how they turned out now I look back, but I guess I'll show you guys anyway.
So here's the house I started with (from the back), in the other world it's right beside an ocean, and I decided that I wanted some sort of fishing town look.

And from the front
Kind of small, but cosy!
Then my little smith's place
and finally my (all color) sheep farm, which is the reason I decided to copy the builds. I'm actually planning on creating a 1 pixel = 1 block replica of a minecraft sheep on top of the structure
it has four colors per floor and four sheep per color, I just found cacti so I still need to breed some sheep and get the cyan, green and lime sheep.
finally an overview of everything together:

and I guess it would be right to show how the same structures looked (much better if you ask me) in the original world:
It might be the surrounding area being more alive, or just because there's just more stuff around, I'm not sure. But I will decide what to do with all this. Probably keep the sheep farm though, spent several hours on that (especially breeding, coloring and getting all the sheep in their pens).
Tell me what you think
Not bad. I don't know if I like the house, though. It looks rather thin and un-depthful.
Other than that, the base area is nicely setup:)

I like your base! Nice little wooden houses in plains are one of my favorite types of bases, they just look so cozy and safe!
Heres what I've been useing in my world for a while. I originally came up with this design on the PS3 version. Since the console versions are so limited in what they can do I came onto the computer, but took this design with me. I call it Command ONE. The main part of the interior is inside 1 chunk, but the exterior walls are in neighboring chunks. Since the console versions dont have all the fancy things like Mods or hoppers, i didnt need too much space. Just a good storage system.
Ive adapted it to work for my needs on the computer. The image with the redstone lights and the leading tot he witch farm. There is a cobblestone ring, thats where I will be relocating my base to. Im playing with a few new mods, and want to incorperate them into the new base. Profesor Flaxbeards Wunderous Steam Power Mod, and the Electrical Age mod.
These show what the area looked like before I leveled the hill, filled int he cave

How my world looks like from top of an abandoned tower project. The pumpkin is a 4 story pumpkin farm. Apple tower holds the first apple (now golden) I found in a stronghold back when apples were rare. The pyramid and 3 towers are just for looks. The glass square on the far right is a 10x10 hole to bedrock, I use it for mining shafts. And finally the giant enderman holding the giant egg is to hold the dragon egg I got by killing the ender dragon.
Here is an island I got to long ago and decided to turn it to a survival island, till I got bored and made a portal, linked both portals (island one and base on through the nether) and now I can go back and forth whenever I want
Underwater house
Map of my world, still working on finishing it off
Underground self-made mob farm
Frame room, will contain frames that hold one of each item in the game
And here is an older version of my world if you wanna see more details =D
Still expanding the setup gradually the more I play!
That's simply amazing ...

Cool! You have a pretty colorfull base!
Dude that base looks awesome I like the ship on the side
Awesome!
I have a special ability to change colors, I can change into just about any Color.
I got this special ability from eating a Grand Star.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
