That its suggestion had a positive feedback on reddit?
I think the "I asked my friends about the idea and they liked it." entry in the excuses section covers that kind of thing already.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Been quite a while since I been to this thread. I got a good example for the 'This adds a challenge!" excuse. Sometimes I see dumb threads like this.
OP: "My idea is that when a Creeper is lit on fire, it explodes! This is like... realistic and stuff!"
Reply: "Bad idea. This means hitting a creeper with the Flame enchantments risks blowing up landscape we didn't want to blow up."
Reply 2: "This also ruins it for traps that involve fire, like using flint & steel from dispensers."
OP: "Yeah that's the point! It forces you to be careful which adds a challenge!"
Nooooooooo -________-
What's easier? Leaving creepers on fire alone or adding this """challenge"""? People also make this mistake with weapon ideas that are out of control and are more devastating than they are useful.

Bumping Your Terrible, Unrevised Threads
If your thread about red ducks that drop redstone and that killing too many of them summons the "Redstone King" has gotten 23 no-supports in a row, then reviving the old topic will not change anything. At least attempt to change the idea to make it less stupid and more balanced before you try to breathe live into an aged turd. Otherwise, keep your decomposed bad thread in the graveyard and don't dig it up.
When you revive a stupid unfixed suggestion of yours, you're doing 2 things: You're setting yourself up to be further humiliated over the bad idea, and you might make yourself look like a joke theader, since those people who make purposely bad suggestions love more posts and attention.

How about: Small, insignificant suggestions as threads?
I've seen around 2-3 suggestions suggesting something so extremely small and insignificant that it's to the point where critics can't even make constructive feedback or even a simple response. Suggestions like these are usually: "I suggest we add an aesthetic to the player's GUI that shows which item you're currently holding", or "I suggest we give all passive mobs the ability to bend down so it looks like they're eating". Theres no reason to make a thread for it, just put it in Small Suggestions.

How small/insignificant are we talking about here? Like a few changes to a basic mechanic? Or more like changing the color of part of the GUI?

So small they wouldn't or hardly make a difference if they were implemented or not. So it's more like changing acolour part of a GUI instead of a few changes to a basic mechanic, but it may depend.

Biome Nerfs
"Hey guys! Let's make biomes more realistic!! Like ummm... like... deserts will make your hunger go down faster and you lose health if you're there too long! Oh and like lol let's have it where in snowy biomes you shiver and again you lose hunger faster! The idea is good because that's how real life is and durr durr durr durr!!!!"
Yes, what a great idea. Let's completely remove the ability to live peacefully in some biomes because we sooooo needed that "realism". Logic logic logic! Augh, why do people not think those things out?

Being a nerd is nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds rule the world! Who invented the internet? Nerds. Who created personal computers and smart phones? Nerds. Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.
Because yeah, even though your idea of temperature got 34 no supports, we need a banner, since this unsupported thread needs even more attention! Seriously, why would you do this? It's just like bumping your bad threads, you're only bringing more negative attention to your thread! Plus, it can lead people to believe that you thought your idea was somehow good so you made a banner since you think it will now get positive attention.
But you can just use [external program] to fix this!
Noonononono. This is suggestions for vanilla minecraft. You're pretty much saying they can use a mod to fix it. Plus, your idea shouldn't have that issue to begin with! If you can't find a solution that can be done in vanilla minecraft in a practical manner, don't use this as a last ditch attempt.

I'm a bit on the fence on this one. In certain rare cases, a banner to promote visibility can be a good thing. This is a bit of a nuanced thing, simply because a suggestion gets 3 or 4 no supports doesn't mean it's bad period. Sometimes it just lacks coverage and the first to respond are those that have no real opinion on it.
But, if it gets to an aggravated case like you're showing "34 nos" then it really is a waste.
With that said, I'd say that banners have a window. Either create one early in the life of the thread, or create one when you have 10+ supporters and need to gain more coverage.

I was specifically referring to suggestions that had "no supports", and a lot of them. If it only has 3 or 4 "no supports", then it may still have a chance as you pointed out.

I recently created a topic in FTC about gatekeeping, while it addresses behavior of critics, the actual OP can be guilty of this as well.
Essentially, anyone that chirps "Let's see you make a better suggestion then!" needs to be taken out back and put out of all of our misery.

Just because something is in the game similar to your idea doesn't make it OK, nor will it make people agree with your suggestion.
