So I was thinking there should be iron and gold buttons, perhaps even levers. The way they would work is the longer it's held down the greater the redstone power would stretch. This would make timing easier, down side is you have to hold the button. Though if this was a lever then that problem is not as bad. I know there are ways to accomplish this via redstone and the components we have now, but seeing that function in a button or lever sounds awesome.
Perhaps iron could require you to hold the button and gold would just increase in power until it's 15 then revert back down.
Anyways I doubt this idea will get much support and I do know that people like the challenge of redstone being part of the game.
Also maybe they could change gold/iron pressure plates to use this idea, I mean do people even use those any more, not for their intended purpose at least.
Really the only reason I gave it support is because Minecraft needs more Redstone componets.
Adding things just to add things is a silly thing to do. Adding 100 pointless additions doesn't make the game better, just more bloated.
That said, I can see how this could be useful, as it would compact devices that let you choose a Redstone strength to a single device. That said I would rather it be a single block that lets you modify the output strength and then every time you press the button you get a consistent output without having to hold the button. It would be much more versatile.

The button idea is very cool, but I don't understand the lever. You press it once and it keeps the power until you press it again, so what's the point?

It manages to be another button without purely copycatting the wooden button. So you got 80% support from me.

The idea is the lever would gain power over time when turned on and perhaps lose power over time when off. So let's say you turn it on, it has an output of 1, next second 2 and next second 3. When turned off it would reverse this much like a comparator pulse extender does.
If you wanted you could then time things is by going directly out of the redstone line. The closer to the lever to sooner it would be powered and the longer before it's unpowered.
You know the recipes for this idea can't just be a gold block or iron block, so I just had an idea that it should use a stone block, quartz ore, an ingot, or maybe just redstone, surrounded by the new iron nuggets and the old gold nuggets for the iron and gold buttons respectively.
Not sure how to do the levers yet, but I'll be sure to add the recipe images to the post when I get a chance.
I am Changing a bit of your idea. Now take the levers. There is a power bar above the screen showing rstone power. Max redstone power is gonna be 15 blocks.
Just keep pressing the lever for 0.827 seconds (i am ac+cu+@rate). Now approx 14 seconds, the bar is full.
release the thing and get your lever power redstone for 15 blocks.
my ideA + your idea=85% support. And the idea is still ur patent.

Can it still be pressed down by an arrow cuz here's the thing, pressure plates can be pressed down by throwing something on it (by which I mean wooden only off course) so what if the gold and iron buttons couldn't be pressed down by an arrow as it would keep it pressed and take away the purpose of it.
The lever seems like a pretty cool concept, (so it acts like a delayer?) Overall, neat idea and I can see this being useful to map makers and players just wanting to mess around with Redstone (and off course those Redstone fanatics that know everything there is to know while I'm over here not knowing how to connect this lever to this door)

I don't think we need another arrow button, so I wouldn't make the buttons work with arrows. They would just pretty much change the power based on how long you hold it down. Of course the levers would do the same but you wouldn't have to stand next to it.
I guess in a way it would be a delayer, except the delay is in how long it takes for the redstone to reach 15 blocks. Think of a hopper feeding into a chest with a comparator coming out. As more items enter the chest to stronger the power is. This would be done with just this button or lever and be depended on how long the lever is on. I guess in a way this can be done using a hopper timer of course buttons can't be held down and the thing would take up 12x the space.
Button is as good as it is, no need to add more. NO SUPPORT
Yes, well that's the thing you see, it's not just another button with a retextured model, it actually has some different properties to it, so I don't see how this would just be more of a cluster to your inventory.

These seem very unique, and I like the idea of a button timer.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
