As far as bad polls go, I said in one page or another that I confirmed the poll answer changing thing is a bug and it has been sent to the developers. That will get fixed... whenever they get to it. In the meantime if someone is modifying poll answers report them. Moderators will look into the polls and take action as needed.
Having silly polls isn't really against any rules, even if they don't include a "No" answer. In that case just don't vote in the poll (the polls are more or less worthless anyways imo, but that is just me). I don't know about a new guideline, but I could modify the one on descriptive titles to include titles and polls.
As for people just saying "This idea sucks", we don't need anything against that as it is counted as spam. It doesn't give any reasoning as to why they dislike the idea therefore does not contribute to discussion. Just report them.

The way they post? If they explain why they don't like the idea it's one thing. If they just go "idea = sux ;]" after getting negative reception from the guy who made the thread than it comes off as failed payback or just a guy who's bad at posting. Or both.
So you actually don't know for sure at all then. You perceive it because their criticisms are bad. Right.
I'll give you two:
My idea's really really good right?
[ ] Yes, best idea on the forum probably!
[ ] Worst thing ever! Augh!
Cool, nothing in between.
You don't need anything in between. If you're unsure, there's no need to put in a permanent vote - talk about it in the thread until you come to a conclusion.
This seems like saying political referendums need a "not sure" option. It's just a bit silly.
That said, if you're purely talking about the hyperbole in those options, assuming those actually exist as poll options, stop taking them seriously.
What is your guys' brain thoughts on my fruit juices idea?
[ ] It's good I support!
[ ] I support just some of them so yeah......
[ ] Idea is good but not the way you presented it.....
[ ] It's good and also here's my idea (explain please)
Neat. There's no "no." option. Yes, I've seen both of these kinds of polls actually exist.
You need to understand that if somebody does something so self-awarely, this guide won't change it. People don't accidentally forget to add a no option, they do it intentionally.
Agree with gamelord on the being unsure part. A suggestion should be polarizing. It should either be "you love it or you hate it". If you have to go digging in the garden for some parsups; the OP is doing something wrong or something got lost in translation.
My opinion on budder and herobrine are already out there; take a chill pill, eat some jell-o and sip some tea.

You're shrinking down the context of what I'm getting at. It's really not that difficult to know when someone is making a half-baked revenge post. Especially when they openly say garbage like "lol I don't support bcuz you don't support me". Yes, I've actually seen this, before you possibly ask.
You don't need anything in between. If you're unsure, there's no need to put in a permanent vote - talk about it in the thread until you come to a conclusion.
You don't exactly need a poll altogether, but it does help. Some people will do as much as read the suggestion and put in a vote. If you have extremist left/right answers, you're still limiting the reader...
You need to understand that if somebody does something so self-awarely, this guide won't change it. People don't accidentally forget to add a no option, they do it intentionally.
No, some people absent-mindedly make bad polls. Unless they're obviously trolling, which usually nothing is done about them anyway. I wish I could post threads that have done all this but we can't call people out so yeah.
"There's the guy who hated my idea of creepers speaking l33tspeak. I'm gonna lob some serious poops at his popular thread about a new biome. That'll show him >=} !!" No, it will not show him.
If it appears that people are posting to harass another user (regardless of whether it is for revenge or not), just report their post so that the forum staff can determine if it needs to be dealt with. There isn't any need for a guideline for this.

Even if I believe that, the only kinds of people who would do something like that in the first place will never read this thread. That's all there is to it. There needs to be a certain level of respect for the reader here.

"Useful metrics?" Since when are the polls here actually useful? There's nothing you can put as a poll that couldn't be observed from the comments alone. It doesn't matter if there's an "unsure" option. We're not voting for President here.
Good, we're more or less in agreement then. Go and argue with the people who are opposing this pertinent view we share instead of biting into an off-handed and completely irrelevant comment I made.
I mean, if you really want to debate if polls provide useful metrics, sure. But I don't and I don't think anyone else here really wants to either because that has nothing to do with anything. PM me or something and I'll send you a thesis on the subject. Hell, I nearly wrote one here, before I realised it's completely irrelevant.
Not every suggestion leaves you with one of those two extremes.
As I said before, if you aren't left with one of those two extremes you don't need to vote because such a vote isn't useful to anyone. Have you ever noticed that whenever a poll has an unsure option, they always tag on "explain in post"? That's because that vote serves no purpose. If you're on the fence, the only useful way to put your opinion forward is to demonstrate it.
Polls exist soley to measure opinion. The number of people who are unsure doesn't matter because they all have different reasons. A suggestor can't look at that and get anything from it. They can't say "Oh seven people are unsure I guess I should change X specific part of the suggestion."

I don't think there's anything that gets by you. Polls with an option of just "maybe" is a bad thing to put. Just because there's a "(explain please)" next to an option doesn't mean the voter is gonna do that. Grey area options are like this:
- "The idea is good, but it shouldn't deplete hunger."
- "The idea is good, but the bird mob doesn't work."
It still provides info without being "Best idea ever!!" or "Idea = cancer..." It's not necessary but still provides something.

That's all well and good. You're 100% right. Those poll options all serve a useful purpose.
But a thread doesn't need them - back on topic now: we're discussing if this thread should condemn binary poll options. Which it shouldn't. Your post here doesn't do anything to invalidate my point or otherwise serve that discussion.
I'm talking about options the entirety of which are rooted in being in between "amazing" and "terrible". Options like "kind of good (pls mention changes in posts)" and "a little bit bad". We aren't talking about the same thing.
A poll is a tool with multiple functions. People should learn to use it as one.
A gauge of popularity. If you simply want to see whether people at_a_glance like or hate your suggestion; it should be done here. This is the primary function. It is arguably the least effectual as you can gauge popularity within the suggestion itself.
A gauge of functionality. This will allow you to highlight low points of your suggestion and ask-the-audience on whether those points are indeed low or whether they should instead be worked on. This is useful for improving the weaker parts of a suggestion or drawing whether a perceived weakness is a weakness; or what one of several balances will improve the suggestion.
A gauge of granularity. It's similar to a popular poll; but instead shows how far they lean in the direction. This is useful feedback for improving the suggestion to secure them into a firm mindset. People be fickle, yo! They'll always change their mind; but this allows the poster to craft the suggestion to polarize that mind and make the reader either agree or disagree.
In other words; people need to learn how to use polls properly.

Number 3 is the one I don't understand. What does "I 76.43% agree with this" as a poll answer tell you that a post couldn't?
The difference here is that if I have a binary yes/no poll and look at results at a glance from 20 different posters, I get a rough idea of what people think. They are either happy or they're aren't.
The granular poll, as you call it, tries to take this a step further by including the 'in the middle' options, but I don't see what purpose they serve because to get anything useful out of something like "I mostly like it", you have to go on to read the thread for supporting details (your favourite). Which is exactly what you'd be doing if you didn't have the poll in the first place.
I agree that maybe having a second poll with options like "I think X should be removed" to address common concerns is a good idea. But I don't believe you at all when you say that it's useful feedback to secure people in a firm mindset because you can't make people support your thread just by knowing how far they lean. In fact, how far they lean is entirely useless, the only information you need is what they don't like and why they don't like it.
That's the difference here. I didn't say the binary poll was made to convince the non-supporters. It exists because I'm too lazy to count. It exists because I like statistics. You're trying to turn the granular poll into some kind of tool to improve the suggestion and I don't get it. You criticise the 'gauge of popularity' for just being something you could do by reading the thread, but don't say the same for the 'gauge of granularity', despite that being even worse (i.e. you could do the same thing by reading the thread, and in fact you have to anyway).

I think what Yoshi meant with number three was a poll kinda like "please rate my idea a number/10!" If most people who vote on that give your idea a 6 or a 7, you know it's pretty solid but could do with some improvement, and it tells you a lot more than just "50 people voted yes, 20 voted no"
Of course that is just my interpretation, I might be wrong about that.
I get the idea but I still don't see how it's infinitely more useful.
It's useless to know simply that people want the suggestion to change, it's useful to know what they want the change to be. You gotta read the thread for that information either way.

The third option could also be used with the checkbox poll type. If you have a suggestion that has a mob, a drop for the mob, and a new item crafted with the drop, then you could have a poll that says "which parts do you like?" that has a checkbox for various components such as the mob name, the stats, the drop, the crafting recipe for the other item, etc.
That has binary answers with check the box if you like, leave blank if you dislike; but it allows you to better pinpoint problem areas. That said people actually posting what they would change is still infinitely more helpful.

Mastermined got a lot closer to my intention. Sometimes people won't post, but they will add a digit to a poll.
#1 gets rid of no-post "+1 or no support"
#3 gets rid of too specific and at the same time entirely too vague "partial support" by itself.
In a very real way, the only effectual use of a poll should be only to guide the direction of the suggestion (point number 2); but that's not to say that others can't exist.
I find knowing the statistics on something I'm producing to be quite alleviating as it takes a lot of cowboy writing out of the affair. It gives me a direction and allows me to better key in on popular opinion. Of course, I don't have to go with with people are recommending or go with what's popular. I usually never do; but knowing where my support lies allows me to hone a suggestion better for them.
