My idea is doors that have a passcode and keys to lock and unlock them. This idea isn't coming out of nowhere, it is coming out of a problem that I have somewhat often.
You see when I play multiplayer I have "friends of friends" on. Most of the time everyone respects other people's builds and stuff. However, some people are just rude. Once in one of my worlds I had found 8 diamonds from chests in the blacksmith shop of a village and the nether fortress. I also had a bunch of other valuable things in my chests. I went off to help a friend build a trap and left my house with all doors closed. When I returned to my house, I found a friend's friend had taken the ENCHANTED armor I set aside for myself, my diamonds, my emeralds, my saddles, my diamond and gold horse armor, and my emeralds. I just managed to kill him and get my stuff back before he left. Now what gets me mad is that I had labeled the doors to my storage room saying it was my private storage and not to steal or enter without my permission, but he entered anyways. That is why I want keys or passcodes for doors so no one will almost lose all my valuable stuff.
Give your thoughts in the comments and answer my poll.
Note: I have already posted this in the Wii U forum.
Edit #1: That person was the same person who blew up my entire house screaming the f-word after I place the final block and went mining. I blocked them, but they somehow got back onto my world. They also changed their screen name.
Edit #2: I think I figured out why the kids stole my stuff. It was the same Japanese kid that I blocked the day before so he couldn't read my sign in English.
I think it would just be better if you hid your chests better. Don't put your valuable items in your base. Instead, run far away from your base, find a secret area you're certain no one will come across by accident, and put your items there. Some good places include deep underground (perhaps underneath lava), at the bottom of the ocean, and if you're daring, in the Nether or End.
Locked doors probably wouldn't have any uses in adventure maps as we have iron doors already, and servers could use plugins if they wanted.
That is basically the flaw I see in this idea. Those tools work on SMP because they also include functionality to set areas as owned by players and make it impossible to steal or break into them. Locked doors don't do anything without some kind of protection functionality added in as well.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. How about they just make lockable chests without making an ender chest because that stuff is expensive to make. Also make it so that only person with the code or key can break it essentially making it so you can have your stuff in your base.

The reason ender chests are mid/late game items is because of that very power. Having an easy-access vault of items that can never be broken into is a huge advantage in SMP, especially Factions servers. So there shouldn't be another similar-acting block which is so much cheaper.

I meant that it acts like a normal chest, you can only access its contents in its actual location, but you can use a piece of gold to make keys. So you can keep a few on hand or give them to friends you trust so that nobody you don't trust can steal your stuff from your normal or trapped chest

*finds an AFK player*
*surrounds them with chests*
*locks all the chests*
*AFK player returns and is trapped*
Or
*Person places chest and locks it in public area, person's house, anywhere that isn't their area*
*person leaves*
*chest is stuck in everyone's way and can't be removed except by the player or the admin*
This is admittedly a better idea though, but we already have better functionality for that with Ender Chests

It's still OP. Ender chests are a balanced alternative with additional functionality.
I justt want to have my valuables easily accessible to me without being in an ender chest or stolen.
And I want a way to find all the diamond ores in vanilla Minecraft using an in-game X-ray feature. That doesn't mean we should have it. If you want your valuable items in a safe, easy-to-reach place, but you don't want to use an ender chest, then I guess you have to suck it up and use an ender chest. Implementing the exact same block except for -1 ability is redundant.
Come to think of it, why do you not want to use ender chests anyway?
I think this is a good idea. But then they can just break blocks around the door and take your stuff. Without unbreakable blocks locked doors are useless unfortunately.

Thread should be titled "Lockable Things", not "I have an idea"... Yeah...
This is a commonly rejected idea, as there's too many ways to get around something like this. Ideas like this just present goofy balance issues and weird lose-lose situations. If other dumb players are that big of a deal for you, play singleplayer or a server that has plugins that protect your things.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I don't think it really would fit into the game, though, since copper isn't even in it yet, so, yeah, it is pretty simple compared to other games. I don't even play multiplayer, so that really wouldn't do anything to me, but this is based on my experience, not everyone else's.

I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
I justt want to have my valuables easily accessible to me without being in an ender chest or stolen.
...And I just want more ores in Minecraft but of course that will never happen. Doesn't mean it will happen. In fact, there is a mod like this, but I forgot what it was called.

SURPRISE!!!!
Oh great, now I have to get a new computer.
*sees locked door*
*moves 1 block to the left*
*breaks down wall*
*walks past now useless locked door*
