I would recommend adding my explanation to why the scales could be used to reinforce the furnace into the OP. I could also add that the scales could be very durable allowing for effective use in armor (chainmail).
I have to agree with SnailsAttack1 on the chain mail thing. The rest just doesn't quite make sense to me. So I'll give you Partial Support.
I had already given quite a bit of a fantasy explanation to how the Furnace (and the Chainmail) could possibly work
Silverfish are insects, that in real life, are just pests. In Minecraft, however, they are in fact large, hostile creatures found near the portal to the End and rarely deep underground. The Portal Room has a large pool of Lava, and Monster Eggs usually spawn deep underground in open spaces (usually lava pools or the like). For them to survive in these extremely hot conditions, they would need some sort of mechanism to reflect the heat, thus their scales. Their scales could, in theory, be an insulator that reflects large amounts of heat. If you were to say coat a Furnace in these scales, they could again in theory, insulate the heat being released, slowing heat loss and allowing anything within the Furnace to be heated much faster.
Now onto the Chainmail use. Silverfish are found deep underground, and are also fairly durable in combat. To allow for living in Stone underground (where a lot of pressure is usually applied, their scales could be very hard, and when linked together could be used to make a durable coat of chainmail to be used in armor.
But that is just a theory, a game the- *gets slapped*

Derp. I probably should have read that. Well then, in light of this new theory, I Support.
I'm not so sure about this, but I changed the title to Useful Silverfish, instead of Useful Arthropods. Will making it add usefulness to all of the arthropods make it a wishlist? Or would it be fine because I think the same type of thing (Mob for example) wouldn't make it a wishlist? I dunno...

I do like the idea of a reinforced furnace, but This isn't the best way to do it. the easiest way to do this would be to surround a furnace with iron.
And, Silverfish aren't fish, so they don't have scales. Silverfish are bugs. I also like the idea of craftable Chainmail, but this is the wrong way to do it.

Well, since silverfish spawn underground (Which leads them to spawning near lava) I thought it would make the idea more like knowing. Plus, the silverfish spawner in the strongholds is surrounded by little lava pools. So this is why I thought they would do that. The iron to make reinforced furnaces is pretty overused. Srry.

I also like the idea of craftable Chainmail, but this is the wrong way to do it..I know they are fish (What type of fish walks on land making squeaking noises. That would be a ton of swfg (Stuff what fish got) though!). I thought they would drop scales because of the little scales on the top of them. That is one of the reasons I did that..Responses are in bold, though I wasn't... gets slapped told that that joke is old and derpy.

I've never seen the use in faster furnaces, like Cerroz said, but since it's kinda fits silverfish with their relation to stone, why not I guess.
I don't like the idea of it making chain, since not only does that take away the kind of appeal of getting all the chain, but it'd only be useful if you spawn in/near extreme hills.

You know how hard chain armor is to get? ;-;
My hard difficulty world only spawns gold and iron armored mobs. I mean, I have not once seen a chainmail armored mob, but I seen a diamond one. If they were to add this without the chainmail crafting, they should at least increase the rate mobs spawn with it. Chainmail is probably my favorite armor, excluding leather (Because you can dye it)

I've actually seen the armor on lots of mobs, though it never has dropped, maybe only once... Yeah...
