Good day/evening, I have thought about this subject several times, thinking of whether it would prove worthy or not so without further delay.
Not too long ago the ability to colour Leather Armour was made excessible to all. With this in mind, seeing as leather armour later on ingame becomes anything but eyecandy; usually thrown out or may be kept for it's colourfulness. I enjoy playing Faction servers for this one key factor, "Teams," "but what does this have to do with colouring armour," you might ask? When two factions are at war, the majority you will see is a large mass of gray blobs sprinting to you. In the heat of battle, you may lose track who is who in the confusing so what I am suggesting is for in Vanilla Minecraft (I haven't seen this elsewhere for mods) is to be able to also dye small prefixed sections of all the other suits of armour. In most games, armour isn't made of a single resource, usually cloth/leather is used for the maindesign and metal/etc is fabricated on top.
With this in mind, going back to the gray mass of blobs; having your allies dye their sets of armour a certain colour would a). Allow your allies to be found easier, b). Add a personal touch to YOUR suit of armour, and c). Gives more uses and a bigger need for dyes.
The recently added Banner has shown it's ability at your village/castle/citystate to show which faction this place belongs to; so why not add the ability to allow the people the right to personalized armour?
A few ideas for locations of the dye. Goes for Vanilla texture pack (Excluding leather unless this idea is godly!)
- Helmet: Small vertical strip (2 pixels wide) along the back and half way up the top. Lower corner protecting face (3-5pixels in corner)
- Chestplate: Along the rim of where the head protrudes (1 pixel). Under the arms (armpit area) (8 pixels in a 2x4 pattern with the two middle pixels of the next row). Two curved strips front and back going from outside to middle of chestplate (1 pixel wide).
- Platelegs: Upper and lower pixels of where the "kneecap" would be (2 middle pixels for upper and lower). The rim around where the feet would poke out of (1 pixel wide). Along side of legs but up where the waist is; the middle pixels (5 down x 2 wide).
- Boots: The middle pixels of front and back of boots (2x2 pixels)
-Thanks for reading this, hope it gets approved! ~Gerrior
Dyeing armor is the only thing leather armor has over the other armors, so when you give that ability to all armor, you're taking away the one unique thing leather has.
If this kind of thing is important to a server, there can just be server mods and such to do this.

That is very true, but the only problem is, no one really uses leather armour. It's like building a house for looks only out of obsidian and comparing it to a house that uses a variety of blocks that compliment each other.

Leather armor also has a unique pattern, so no, it isn't the only thing. I support this idea!
Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
