Two minecrafts, still updated in live time, but different. I was looking at this future updates post regarding seasons in minecraft it it came to me, minecraft could use an overhaul but more or less there needs to be a way that both the vanilla and "chocolate" versions would be loved and played.
The seasons main problem was lag for block updating and i replied my solution in the thread as follows:
I'd love this to be in vanilla, with the option to have seasons on or off in survival. As another comment pointed out though:
Lag...
I am going to go and put this in the suggestions shortly after posting.
fix: overhaul..... yes the damned dreaded word..... this means no-snapshots and a long term release date, In fact if this were to happen they should split the updates up, refer to one path being "chocolate minecraft" ;
-A minecraft that has now been overhauled to compliment all the potential development flaws like Mojang have stated like that of the combat system, and also incorporate this unlagy block updating for real time seasons, prehaps built-in shaders, in-game file share and more.
And another path just being vanilla as we know it: aka the 1.9 we can predict.
Maybe the chocolate minecraft if it were called so, would be the commonly repelled Idea of Minecraft 2.0.0 / Minecraft 2?
What do you all think? Ignore Microsoft in all means of this, Mojang is still in charge for most reasons here....
A minecraft 2 would be cool, but remove Java reliance and perhaps utilize some of Microsoft's staff to revamp the game, more ores, more mob actions and reactions, more crops, finite water, seasons, advanced redstone, shaders, mob varieties, and modular furnaces where you put ores in and watch them melt into liquids which pour into an ingot case. Realistic crafting, kill an animal, use sharp rocks to carve it's bones into your first tools. ETC.
2 minecrafts means twice the time between updates.
Or with the backup and dev supported by the new owners Micro$oft, more employees, with a checks and balances so the game doesn't leave its original feel.

With the extra employees that need paychecks, would it be reasonable to expect that minecraft 2 would also have to be purchased? If so, would you agree that most of the current minecraft players would resent the change, feeling that they would need to make an additional purchase in order to receive the best performance?

I used to have a good signature, but it got nerfed.
Current avatar: Amaterasu Omikami, or Amaterasu for short. Goddess of the sun, universe and everything that is good. Has a wolf form and a "human" form.

Yes but only fair, right? Both the way I interpret it would be worthwhile, mc2 may be pricier- but not disappointing and not destroying mcv, but is it wrong for developers of a game to create more really good games that don't offend the other? also ntm you could be in a whole new revamp of beta again, which was arguably some of the most entertaining days of mc.

You don't seem to understand how smart game development works. There's no good reason for a "Minecraft 2", and it would be absolutely retarded for them to develop an entirely new game from (almost) scratch - which takes many years - just to address some issues that can be worked in the original game.
You haven't given any good reasons to why a sequel would be pumped out other than "lag". This just feels like a thread that screams "I want a sequel, so give me one please."
More employees means absolutely nothing if the core idea of making another game and updating two at once is still a bad idea. Which it is, sorry.

Pretty much this. There's no real reason to make a Minecraft 2 except to port it over to a different coding language or if Mojang/Microsoft wanted to make Minecraft 2 completely different in concept (which would be silly IMO). Simple features can simply be added in through new updates... and, in the case of overhauls to bad/mediocre features (e.g. combat, terrain generation, etc), SHOULD be added through updates rather than slapped into a different game.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I think converting java to c++ would be what we need, they did that with the old console versions and it runs better on them than on computers with two times the power, all because c++ is more efficient.

Not necessarily. There already are 3 Minecrafts: PC, XBox, and Pocket. If there was a Minecraft 2, then they'd have one team for that, and one team for the old one. The two PC Minecrafts would gradually diverge, and I think that would be interesting in its own right. Not sure if that's where Mojancrosoft wants to go, but it's one possible direction.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
My wish for Minecraft 2 is for Mojang to finish an API as a bedrock for future development, and then develop Minecraft sequel packs as themed collections of blocks and features. So Minecraft 2 would be a plugin for Minecraft.
For example, there could be a "realistic" patch a la Terra Firma Craft, a "pipes and pistons" patch a la BuildCraft, an "improved villagers and questing and adventures" patch a la Millenaire, and so on.

"Minecraft 2? Not likely, says Microsoft"
And we can, as that guy ^ says, port minecraft to another engine. Problem solved.
