Redstone can be pretty tricky when trying to connect certain things together, so why don't we have different colors yet?
Green redstone dust.
Acts the same as regular redstone, just won't connect with any other sources. Such as red, and blue.
Blue redstone dust.
Acts the same as regular redstone, just won't connect with other sources.
The point of this is to help make connecting and stringing redstone easier than before, since the new redstone will work the same, but won't connect with other sources OF redstone. Making green/blue/red all separate.
Example:
Try putting 3 lines of redstone in a 3x3 area next to each other. All connect.
Try putting 3 lines of the NEW redstone along with the old redstone in a 3x3 area. None connect.
This would also qualify for Blue/green repeaters/comparaters/redstone torches.
Hmm... It's name is odd. But could prove extremely useful!

You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.
And this single fact changes the entire validity of the suggestion? It would certainly be very useful in compacting redstone circuitry, albeit it does seem strange to have different colours of redstone. Perhaps you could go down the same route as the redpower mod did and make different coloured wires.
But it's redstone...that just makes no sense to me. At least call it "bluestone" or something.

I agree. So, if you change the name to "colorstone", it wouldn't sound right. Like, "I'm making a colorstone contraption." But what sounds correct is, "I'm making a redstone contraption. Sorry, but no support.

Ooo, here's a great idea to solve this naming problem! Have 2 new ores, bluestone, and greenstone. If you're using a combination of the three, you can still just call it a redstone contraption, you don't need to say "I'm making a red/blue/greenstone contraption".
That would be a huge game-changer as it'd be a more effective way to keep lines from crossing that were side by side.
Not sure if this is the way to implement it, but I would support something like this that is a simpler way to prevent shorts in circuits. It would make horizontal circuits much more compact. If we do this 3 colors is enough. Blue and green seem good colors.
One suggestion: don't suggest that we redo torches, repeater, comparator or anything else though. These have a lot of functions. Just make these components connect to all lines. That way they can be the bridge between colors in a circuit and your suggested change is simpler (therefore more likely to get implemented). Besides, we need something to bridge colors anyway so why not just make the original components do it. It's really redstone LINES that has the shorting problem anyway. Pretty easy to control component flow. Torches can short things, but they react to powered blocks so if you changed them you'd have to have a seperate powered block state for every color which is also an unlikely change.

Support! This would be great for even further compacting redstone builds, and would make it much less of a pain to activate, say, a row of pistons. Also, maybe it could just be called Dyed Redstone, and could be dyed all colors except for red, since dying it red is just redundant.

Eh. Anyway, I still don't support, because I think if you do redstone, you won't need colors to organize them (I hope).
...YES IT DOES. IT WOULDN'T BE CALLED REDSTONE OTHERWISE.

Yeah! That's good! It might have to be called dyed redstone, or something like that. Instead of "Blue Redstone, Green redstone," etc.
