I just came up with this idea while playing & thought it was worth sharing.
It would be called “salt” because it would “salt the earth so nothing can ever grow again” a-la the Babylonian empire's short sighted agricultural practices (Silly Babylonians, you can't irrigate crops with sea water).
It would only work on certain blocks & the results would very depending on the block it is used on:
Pharmland: would revert to a regular dirt block, any crops that may be planted on it would be dropped like normal as though they had been trampled.
Grass block: would revert to regular dirt dropping anything growing on it like plants or tall grass (grass would drop seeds at normal rate).
Dirt block: Turns in to coarse dirt. This it probably the most desirable application this enchantment has. It would make it a little easier to lay dirt roads down when building a village & I'm pretty sure Endermen can't grab coarse dirt (don't quote me on that though).
I was also thinking that maybe we could have one more step where coarse dirt is turned in to gravel but I don't know about that one. I think that might start to creep in to an area that is a bit excessive.
It basically works as a “reverse hoe”. I'm not sure how good it is since it seems to me to be a bit out side the norm but with enchantments like Silk Touch, Phortune, Lure & Luck Ov The Sea that all either alter drops or increase drop rate & coarse dirt being added in the last update I think this idea's time has come. An enchantment that changes dirt types is handy & there really are no enchantments specialized 4 the hoe yet so maybe yes?
No thank you. I don't ever see myself spending levels to enchant a Hoe just to do things that I can already do by:
Jumping twice
Digging and replacing a block
Combining a block with Gravel, which most players have so much of that they stop bothering to dig it up.

To be honest, this seems rather pointless, why make a farm tool (let alone waste xp levels to get it) that basically would kill farms and any grass that's living on dirt? It honestly seems 100% unnecessary, and will not have my support.
(P.S. Pharmland and Phortune are spelled with an F, sorry that just kinda bothered me ^_^)

I am aware ov this; however, I have been inphormed by the admins ov this phorum that the letter that resides between "D" & "G" on the key board is apparently considered a swear, so I have agreed to never use that letter again & am instead using phonetic equivalents.

IDK, trolling? Seriously though, my thinking was simple. I wanted to use coarse dirt to make roads in my village, but diging up dirt just to put it back down seemed monotonous. A tool that just turned dirt in to coarse dirt seemed usephul to me in that context. I've also bee in situations where I was tearing down a huge pharm & had to take several minutes to tear up all the pharm land or jump around alot to turn it back to dirt so I could keep building, again monotonous (I just noticed, does anyone else think all the "o" in "monotonous" are monotonous?).
I admit an enchantment like this would seem useless to a lot of people, but there are also people who would see use in it. There are enchantments that seem useless to me, an example would be bane of arthropods. The mob it is intended to kill is weak enough to not need specialized damage, sharpness works just phine, yet I am sure there are people who swear by their "spidey-slayer".
Nevertheless, I understand people opinion about this enchantment being "useless". I admit it would have very limited applications, however that does mean it's not OP, so it's got that going 4 it.
Anyway, back on subject. Your arguments are poor. 'You may think its useless but there are other near useless enchants too'. Self explanatory. Just because something is monotonous and an enchant would have helped you in that ONE situation doesn't warrant a brand new enchantment. If enchantments started serving these kinds of purposes, what would come next?
New enchantment: Super block. To stop the monotonousness of building a house, you can spend 30 lvls to enchant a block of wooden planks. You can then place that block 5 times until it actually leaves your inventory.
Joking, of course. But you get the point. The small pool of extremely situational uses don't warrant a new enchantment at that cost.

I'm not trolling, so just going to start off with that one. If you really want coarse dirt, there is a simple crafting recipe that even essentially creates double the dirt you put into it (2 gravel + 2 dirt = 4 coarse dirt). Also if you need to remove the farmland for building, just building on top would easily revert it to dirt, not to mention removing the water will also allow it to dry out and revert to dirt on its own as well.
Imagine it this way, picking up dirt on your own and crafting it seems a bit time consuming for you I guess, so that's why this is here right? People that want smooth stone, stone bricks, etc. have to mine cobble and then smelt it. Otherwise you could get a silk touch pick, but that has better applications than using it on such a material.
However, I'll give you this, it is a fairly unique idea, it just doesn't have many major applications really in the long run (plus it would eliminate one of gravel's major uses beyond basically being a flint source for arrows and such).

You misinterpreted my point. All I was saying is that there is president 4 highly situational enchantments. Baine o' Arthropods only works on one mob. Salt would only work on one block.

I do get what you're saying, but I don't think it 100% on point. You do bring up some valid concerns but it's negated by the phact that the Hoe is itselph already a highly situational tool. Any enchantment on the hoe is only going to work on dirt no matter what because the Hoe already only works on dirt.
Iph I were suggesting this for a shovel or pickaxe enchantment I'd be right there with you, but on the Hoe it phits perphectly.
Like I said at the outset, I'm not sure how good this idea is. I'm willing to conceed it's not that great, I'd just like to see the Hoe get an enchantment ov it's own.
I'm not trolling, so just going to start off with that one. [/trolling]
Apologies. I never meant to imply you were trolling. I was answering your question. What I meant, jokingly of course, was that this enchantment could be used to troll.

This is true. Iph the point ov coarse dirt was to add utility to the gravel the enchantment undoes that. Valid point. I concede the "turn grass blocks & pharmland back to dirt" part is a bit useless; it just seemed an appropriate extension ov the enchantment given the primary application.
The Hoe is already a very situational tool. It is only designed to work on one block, dirt; & it only does one thing to that block; turn it to pharmland. Any enchantment that is speciphic to the Hoe is going to be specipho to dirt as well. Iph I had suggested we put this on the shovel I could under stand the "but it has such limited use" argument; however the tool this enchantment is designed 4 already has that limitation placed on it. The enchantment is simply phollowing suit.

I would be very surprised if Endermen couldn't pick up coarse dirt, as it shares the same ID as regular dirt, it just has a different damage value.
However, like Badprenup said, I don't really see any uses for this enchantment that can't be accomplished already.
I am aware ov this; however, I have been inphormed by the admins ov this phorum that the letter that resides between "D" & "G" on the key board is apparently considered a swear, so I have agreed to never use that letter again & am instead using phonetic equivalents.

I hadn't thought of that, you're probably right.
