Listen everyone likes 1.9 combat and everything about 1.9 but... the dang cooldown, as you can see most of the servers are now available for 1.9 and they have the new arrows and stuff like badlion but they removed the cooldown because it is annoying, it makes the pvp so much worst and all the players hate the cooldown its just slow and useless
I was actually pretty apprehensive about 1.9 given the complaints people had with it. I actually updated about two or three weeks after it came out. I was pleasantly surprised.
I was never one for spam clicking. I never saw a point in ruining my mouses button when the strike itself knocked them back enough that the three strikes in the middle were irrelevant unless I was charging (which I rarely did unless on the front foot in a battle.) Adjusting to the cool downs wasn't an issue (probably through the numerous years on WoW which wasted my life.)
I will say though that I don't really see where the complaints are coming from seen as they seemed to be centered around that and yet in every other game you come across it doesn't seem to be an issue with people. The difference between minecrafts cool downs and others is that they are mainly animation based. That time it takes to swing a sword and pull it back to strike again in Skyrim... Cooldown - That reload button on GTA after so many bullets have been fired... Cooldown. I really don't see an issue in a game that has a combat element to have these cooldowns, it makes sense.
In truth what most people hate is that they now have to think about entering into a battle rather then just running and spam clicking. The most common complaints are that they are unable to just go up to someone and batter them into nothing before they have a chance to realise what is going on. All they have done is balanced the game to not allow this, make certain things harder by improving they AI (In truth skele's are still not that hard just that you can't run up to them and hit them before they get a shot off (Which again makes a lot of sense - Archer vs Swordsman at range... Archer will always come out on top unless the swordsman has a shield.... Oh wait didn't they just add that?)
I imagine those that complain will also be the same ones that complain when exploitable bugs are patched (In CoD for example though I don't play it.)
Get used to it and carry on.... Your mouse will thank you for it.

its not spam clicking, lets get it this way: 1 hit every like idk 2 or 3 sec, that is so boring and its just like not exciting nothing stressful about that just so slow the gameplay is so much slower its so boring like oh 1 hit shield 1 hit shield maybe a couple of bow shots but its all just hit shield wait hit shield wait hit shield wait, sooooo boring so much time
1.6 seconds with a sword. Not really that much of a difference plus gives the ability to add skill into the game rather then spam clicking every half a second hoping you got it right.
The rest of the post I didn't really understand (though like admittedly like I soooooo turned off when you totally like really went into Valley girl mode)
skill? the skill in "spam" clicking is to aim while doing it, you probably can't even aim with a 6cps lmao
whats the real "skill" in clicking each 1.6 second easily with nothing to worry about

From what I can see, swords have an attack speed of 0.63 seconds, so if you're only attacking once every 2-3 seconds, you're likely doing something wrong...

Ummm what is a 6cps? A quick google search bought up nothing relating to minecraft.
The skill is in timing just like with every other game. It forces you to dodge out of the way and time your strikes rather then run in spam clicking hoping for the best.
It introduces the importance of movement and picking your battles.
Skill in aiming? That hit box of a player taking up more than 75% of your screen that hard to hit it is now called a skill. Damn mining those blocks is skillful (given they have a smaller hit box.)
cps stands for clicks per second, agreed sometimes you need timing skills in games but its not as extreme as in 1.9 for example cs:go obviously an awp will need to wait for it after each shot BUT its almost a guaranteed one shot kill, but if you are using like a m4 you would need to reload after more than one shot because it doesn't do that much dmg.
okay if you think its that easy first of all try to get a 8 cps which is like okay and then after you do a couple of tests while getting 8 cps or higher on them try to pvp, while jitter clicking. You'll probably miss 80% of your hits
From what I can see, swords have an attack speed of 0.63 seconds, so if you're only attacking once every 2-3 seconds, you're likely doing something wrong...
no its definitely not 0.63 sec cooldown, anyways I don't play it with the cooldown because it sucks
As for games like CS:GO there are vastly different mechanics involved. The first and most importantly is range, the hit boxes you are attempting to hit are small unless close combat (Yes the knife does have a cooldown attached to it.)
Second is it is a game soley focused not only on ranged combat but on PvP. Minecraft isn't. It is designed to be balanced for player on player combat in small numbers. That cooldown on the bolt action sniper rifle for example is designed to reduce spam clicking, making the sniper think about taking that shot. The m4 is an automatic rifle designed for mid range combat, but sacrifices power for it. Hence more bullets with less power. In gameplay terms this still means the person carrying the M4 has to think about his shots and pick and choose where he will be most effective. Something which Minecraft never had before.
As for being able to click my mouse button and not move it. Not really that much of a skill for someone who has grown up playing the likes of Q3Arena or the original Counterstrike.
[Edit: What is the point in 6 clicks/ps when there is an invulnerability cooldown of 0.5 secs after each hit?]
exactly, its a different type of game, so you shouldn't have brought up gta, anyways you can't aim while having 8 cps which you probably can't even reach, it needs skill, btw there isn't an invulnerability cooldown for 0.5 secs after each hit and if so whats your problem with "spam" clickers?
no its definitely not 0.63 sec cooldown, anyways I don't play it with the cooldown because it sucks
The sword's recovery time actually is 0.63 seconds. All mobs are immune to damage for 0.5 seconds after getting hit anyways, spamming your mouse compared to the 1.9 system, there is barely a difference once you learn to time your hits. A 0.13 second advantage is hardly a difference.
That said, it's the very problem with the whole "it's slow" argument. While it may feel faster as your are clicking fast, the speed you click is meaningless if it is faster than 0.5 seconds in 1.8. In 1.9, they just made it more advantageous to not spam click. When you spam click a zombie, how many clicks actually do damage? Of course, we are only talking about swords, a lot of items got much more useful, spam clicking with a sword is not all there is to combat. Plus shields.

Let me know if my posts are helpful or if you like them. That's what I'm here for.
I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
Honestly, I like every other 1.9 feature EXCEPT for the cooldown.... cooldown makes it so easy to get cleaned up in EVERY minigame ever.
So true.
I had yet another degrading 1.9 experience today:
I started my survival world, went outside, when suddenly a skeleton horse trap gets hit. Having dealt with about a dozen of these in the past, I started killing the skeletons riding the horses. While I am doing this, ANOTHER skeleton trap gets hit, only this time it spawns 8 skeleton jockeys. yay, 12 skeleton jockeys. Every time I try to fight them I end up dying. Now I have to wait for them to spread out more before I can hit them. Also, sometimes there will be a skeleton wearing an iron helmet floating about 1 block off the ground. Hitting it does not do any damage to it, but it can still hit me. Does anyone know what to do about this?
I just hate two things. Getting shoved around by animals/ mobs. Much harder to push horses where you need them and much easier to get pushed over a ledge by a pet. And that the slash attack ruins precision. Now I have to worry about killing my wolves or I can't pick just one cow out of the herd and details like that. I actually love timing the attack, I just wish I wasn't hitting allies when I was trying to hit enemies.
But it's not as big a deal for me as the whiners crying about not being able to spam click. They don't seem to care about these things, so I'm guessing that if they'd just learn a little patients the they'd love 1.9.
Oh, and Why Did They Nerf The Creeper!(runs in circles screaming with my hair on fire) He's The Mascot Of Minecraft!
You bought up CS:GO to prove your arguement. I countered it.
I bought up other games which have cooldowns. If you want to take it away from FPS's we could always go with WoW. Space Engineers has a cool down also. In fact pretty much every game which involves clicking the mouse for profit has cooldowns. So whilst my example was relevant yours was not.
So let's get down to the content of your post.
My problem isn't with spam clickers per say. I don't play Multiplayer Minecraft often, certainly not enough to worry about PvP. My issue is that this is constantly being used to slam an update which added something to think about, because it added something to think about. There is nothing wrong with the mechanic, it is not broken, it does not make the game especially harder or unplayable. It's just people whining because they can't spam click to win anymore.
P.S It is possible to aim with six clicks per second quite easily. Does this mean I am better at PvP without trying?
P.S.S Your stupidity is starting to annoy me now. I am backing out of this.
first of all i really hope i could swear here but i can't, but anyways I said 8 cps after that, 6cps is indeed easy 8 is ok 10 is a bit harder
and finally I was here just to show my opinion so I would appreciate it if you would stop arguing

This isn't the whole story, though, because you could spam click *other* mobs while the first was invulnerable. Since you also have an invulnerability timer, it meant you could fight an almost unlimited number of melee mobs with the same outcome as fighting one. And it's getting rid of this utterly preposterous game-breaking easy out that made melee mobs worthless that's the absolute best part of 1.9.

Doesn't that just make axes OP? Another reason the cooldown was introduced was because Mojang wanted to make axes worthwhile in combat without them overpowering swords and, well, every other player you encounter. Being able to spam click with an axe would definitely break the game, wouldn't it?

That was something I didn't think about. However, the slash attack of the sword is basically one of the things that was added to balance the cooldown. Of course, this slash attack can be a pain at times and has very specific conditions to do it. The slash attack seems to just happen when you don't want it to for me, I've hit an iron golem when trying to kill a zombie siege and gotten myself killed. When it does work, there is nothing funner than hacking away at a swarm of zombies.

agreed but then just add a cooldown to the axe
