I suggest you read some of the threads on the forums here and check out the polls. 50%-60% of people have reported crippling lag and only 10% reported that 1.8.1 improved performance.
You're assuming here that every person that plays Minecraft voted on that poll. You're also assuming that everyone that voted on that poll was being 100% honest (which definitely isn't true).
Even though that poll has somewhat OK amount of data, you can't just base everything off of that. It'd only be accurate if you got true answers and every minecraft player had voted.
If this thread is going to again turn into another multi-page argument about statistics and polls, then it will be locked. If people wish to focus on discussing 1.8, then it will be allowed to continue to be open.

my guess is that they offend some one due to the fact in order to have an argument you have to some what disagree with another and in most cases a small war is highly going to happen (flame war not a real war to anyone who was going to not understand)

Performance crippling lag spikes is why this update is garbage. For an update that took nearly a year to complete it never should have been released in such a sorry state. It's been 6 months since the release and this still hasn't been fixed. The player base is leaving in droves and the modding community is as well thanks to Mojang's meddling in Bukkit.
Many people are talking about the lag, but few are talking about the fast chunk loading. The 1.8.2 pre-releases give our a bit less lag, but way slower chunk loading (that means render distances above 16 are useless cause it takes too much time to load the chunks).
That's not what we want. Partially fixing one issue, but creating three other ones.
so true i would be happy with slight lag i mean ya every game as the odd lag spike slow chunk loading ok thats not fun for exploring but after my base is created am not to worried about it but god combine then and its a nightmare the chunk am walking in is still loading and am lagging out now that's what i call a triple AAA game ;p

last the irony says 10% was about 1.8 and the rest about whining yet complains about that...
on topic though is it just me or does simple thinks seem to break or not act they way they should. for example some times water when i place it down does not move a single block where it should. or this annoys me the most when i place my stairs upside down and then after i place it it flips to being right side up that's annoying to me

Can u pick up mojang armor stands? can u attach swords? Nope and you can rotate AND being a survival player myself i dont use commands... PLUS if you have bibliocraft you have better armour ad swords to put on the stands
You can do those things, though not in survival, but it can be done. Survival isn't the only measure of if something is good and usable or not. Overall, the new armorstands are way more versitile than bibliocraf'ts version.

Just because you do not find a use does not mean it is useless and is a downright copy of another mod. That's like saying that you don't fish, so you have no use for a fishing rod, thus fishing rods are useless.
Armour stands in survival are for storing items in a way that shows them in the world (unlike an item frame, armour stands render the 3D model). In creative, armour stands offer vastly different uses.

With microcontrollers, you still have limited power to work with. I believe that today's computers would run at LEAST 2-3x faster if everything was as optimized as theoretically possible.

Well if Mojang owns Bukkit, then its not really stealing.
And please, understand that in that ~8 month time frame, they rewrote many core elements of the game's engine. While the update is not feature heavy, it is still extremely benefitial, generally speaking, across the board. Once they get 1.8s major issues ironed out, the game will be better off. But again, these types of changes take time, both to make and to fix.
1.8.1 was mainly a patch to 1.8, so at this point in time, if we see an official 1.8.2 release with no real improvement to the major issues, or no word that they are working on it, then there will be bigger issues outside of the game itself.
