Depth Strider pretty much ruins PvP on Factions Servers. So many people still play on 1.7, so pretty much no servers use 1.8, since it is the worst update ever.

One reason the servers haven't updated is because there is almost zero software to update to. Bukkit is no longer in production. Also, Depth Strider won't ruin anything if it isn't used on the server.

Well, on a Factions/PvP Server, Depth Strider is a bit too overpowered. Most owners of large servers do not use Bukkit, and they prefer Spigot. Spigot can run a server with far more performance, and you can use Spigot for 1.8. Bukkit is dead.
97% of teenagers would cry if they saw Justin Bieber on top of a tower about to jump. If your the 3% who is sitting there with popcorn screaming "DO A BACKFLIP", copy and paste this as your signature.
Um, all I have is a decent computer. I put my render distance down to 6 and turn off some unnecessary crap and I'm playing at 60 FPS.
This. 'Cept I can have my render distance at about 9,it works flawlessly on servers. Singleplayer is where the lag train comes in and hits you in the face

Right, but the server owners don't HAVE to use Depth Strider on their server. It's not overpowered on the server if it isn't on there.

Yeah, whatever, only Mike Dawson can use them, you're just a butthurt 1.8 fan, we don't even play 1.8 since it's basicly unplayable as it turns into a 5 FPS slideshow, we have to see the new features because people shoehorn them into everything, we report them but Mojang says "Works as Intended" to all of them, and how about you grow up and see how bad this update really is?
I am playing Minecraft 1.8.1 right now, and it averages between 30-60 FPS. So maybe YOU should grow up and realize that different people have different likes and dislikes, and not every bug is automatically Mojang's fault.
I do agree that 1.8 isn't some of Mojang's best work, but try to look at it objectively instead of pointing fingers. It's obvious that this update was made to cater to map-makers and redstone users, and they STILL added extra content like new blocks and items to keep everyone else happy. Mojang is trying to appease as many people as possible. I think that the people who whine about every flaw and the real "butthurt" ones here.
Just because the game isn't exactly the way you want it to be, doesn't mean that there aren't plenty more people who actually enjoy the game instead of crying about lag.
To add to that:
SHEEP ARE DROPPING FOOD NOW.
Do you people know how long that's been requested for? A really freaking long time.
They should have stopped at baked potatoes. Besides, it added a little interest, because either you looked for food or you looked for bed materials in terms of hunting down domestic animals (because for some reason the sheep were always where the other animals weren't). The mutton idea was one of those stupid ideas floating around in the suggestion forum like a submarine of fecal matter.
The survival features I like of 1.8 are the mode locking (because that can be a problem switching between creative worlds and survival, your creative world can be set to peaceful and then there's no mob spawn in survival if you forget to switch it back), the underwater temples (although I managed to add underwater content before they did because I was tired of waiting) and the armor stands.
Wow, 3 things, amazing. They should have just focused on one theme for the update, they were all over the place.
One thing that really upset me was changing the villages again. They already had complex rules then they make them even more complicated, for that reason alone I'm staying in 1.7, other things would be fine if they finally came out with an API so I feel like it's worth updating my mod.
Microsoft has nothing to do with this. They own Mojang but all of the Mojang staff (minus Notch, Carl and one other (they weren't working on Minecraft anyways)) still works on this game. No new devs from Microsoft have done anything yet. In fact, Microsoft hasn't done anything at all for Minecraft - all we know is they own Mojang. Plus 1.8 was made before the acquirement.
Did I ever say 1.8 was Microsoft's fault?
If there is a 1.9, that would be Microsoft's programming.
That's what I meant. :l

Microsoft does nothing for programming Minecraft - Mojang still makes Minecraft, but Microsoft owns the company. Unless Microsoft signs on some new devs to Mojang, Microsoft will have nothing to do with any future updates.

That is probably wrong.
Microsoft is a very big company (obviously). Mojang is a very small company. Because of this fact Mojang needs to be backed up by a bigger company. It says on Microsoft's website that it will make Minecraft faster over cloud usage, which means that Microsoft is most likely responsible for all the lag problems. It says that Microsoft is developing Minecraft. My mistake, it doesn't mean that it programs it necessarily.
But it also states that we'll have more opportunities to connect a.k.a. Realms i.e. spending more money on in-game spending. Right now, I have no idea what Realms is.
Anyway, I admit that 1.8 sucks.
The commands like execute and clone no doubt are very useful but then there is stuff like andesite and diorite.
I am a map maker and I know that the commands, slime blocks and armor stands are extremely important. I made a working map based on a basketball court but it doesn't work. Why? Because of lag. All the redstone screws everything up.
So I just wasted an entire week on nothing. I have checked everything and everything is functioning properly but my comparator is glitching and therefore I can't do anything.
But the 1 biggest thing I don't want to change about 1.8 is the Alex skin.
Then you can tell who is a noob and who isn't.
I have been around since Beta and can tell you that 1.8 is probably one of the worst updates.
Microsoft owns Mojang as a branch of their company now, they do not however develop the game. Mojang is already working on 1.9 with snapshots next month. Microsoft as of yet has has not touched the game.
Because Mojang wants MCPE to be available for all mobile devives - first xperia play, then iOS, then Android, Kindle and now Windows Phone.
That is very true.
Notch didn't want the game to get this big however.
That's not my point. The point is that Microsoft will be developing some features of Minecraft in 1.9, probably not related to programming though.
According to the wiki, 1.9 is currently useless to me right now.

I've been around since alpha. I think 1.8 has been the single best update.
I don't know how you came to the conclusion that microsoft is responsible for the lag. 1.8 works just fine for me,so why am I magically immune to the lag?
This post of yours is filled with misguided fallacies.

Ok, I understand if there's reasons you like 1.8, but what makes it the best update? The adventure update, 1.0, and 1.7 added A LOT of good things, this only added several.
