This is just my opinion, so please don't hate on it.
Overall, I am quite pleased with 1.8. My FPS has increased from about 70 - 80 on 1.7 with Optifine, to about 110 - 120 on 1.8 and that's even without Optifine. Of course, I'm a bit annoyed with some stuff (new enchanting mechanics, eugh) but I am pretty pleased with the result.
If you don't like it, then it's quite simple - don't play it, play 1.7 (pretty much all of the most popular servers still have 1.7 support).
"Don't like don't play" is not a valid argument. What if they want the bug fixes? What if they like some parts but not others? What if the servers they play on update... will they just be stuck forever not playing on the servers they like? What if they like 1.9, but not 1.8? The problem is that all the updates are mixed together. Once we get to the point where we can choose which features are allowed in our worlds and bug fixes are released separately, then your argument becomes valid.
Are you serious? The rest of those aren't really features.
1.8 is a bunch of small things that add up. Ignoring the minor additions does not make them any less important. I can appreciate them, even if they are passive in nature.

why don't you guys develope a game with millions of people who bought it for £17.50 each?
You don't have to be knowledgeable in a thing to criticize it. If you're suggesting they could use some perspective, don't. Mojang's success is completely unrelated to other people's success, and as a result your 'challenge' would not alter perspective in any real way.
There have already been HUNDREDS of reports, Mojang marks them works as intended so reporting it won't help
Mojang, what's happened to you? If Mojang was still like what it was in the past, they would at least fix the water issue, but now they're so lazy as the fattest person ever that they mark every bug as 'Works as Intended'..

It's NOT that simple. 1.8 fixes bugs from 1.7. So you really have a choice: (1) play a game that adds new features, but also adds lag, but fixes older bugs, or (2) keep playing the older version with the previous bugs, and deny yourself the new features.
I know that it's great that Mojang adds features, even if most of them are inane, it's still better than NOT adding features. I get that. But if they spent a proper amount of time fixing bugs I think they'd have a better game which they could THEN add features. Piling on features and more bugs to an already buggy game is not a good business model.
Anyway, that may all come to a conclusion when the new dev team is brought in.

I believe that this thread has out lived its usefulness and here is why.
As this thread was based on how disappointed you were or how awesome you thought the update was, I get that the lag sucks, so stop complaining about the lag and go onto something else. All the way from page 3 I see that the lag sucks. We are all complaining about the same thing. 47 pages of how lag ruined the game, If they aren't going to fix it whats the point of you guys fighting about how it lags or how it doesn't lag. Fighting won't fix the lag, taking action will.
We have found the main source of the lag which is the lighting system and the water. There is probably a lag out there that fixes that lag which just fixes the light in the water. Instead of pointless fighting why not find a solution to this and work together to get this problem fixed, if spamming Jebs twitter is what it takes, then do it. I am not saying hack into mojang and change the website to say "fix the lag!", I am just saying tell them directly to fix the lag.
Tell Mojang or Microsoft or wherever you need to contact TO FIX THE LAG. In my opinion Minecraft sucks since 1.8 got out because of the lag. Lets change this fighting into something that actually matters in the game.
Let us work together :). Not fight, but work together to fix this issue.
It's sespecially good that you added at the end, that you hate 1.8 because of the lag after you complained before, that everyone is complaining about the lag
Anyways...I'm not going to contact anyone. Never did. Even when something was wrong I rather posted a topic on the forum asking for advice. If there was any. I just waited it out. I will do the same this time even though I do NOT have lag but some other issues that are pretty annoying on servers but other than that I am fine. So no reason for me to spam Jeb or any other Mojang employee and seriously no reason to spam the Microsoft Service Hotline. But I agree on the part that people should do something instead of just complaining and fighting. But the thing is - or at least it sees like it is that way - that if you report it as bug to Mojang they mark it "working as intended" - but from what I have heard I wouldn't call it working as intended - so yeah...
The reason why I am saying to bring the lag issue to mojang is because they mark it as working as intended. If we bring it to them, they can't ignore it. But yes, I should have said something other than spam lol. Maybe just say bring it to them.
Well obviously, the guy who started this thread isn't a server owner, a map maker, or a builder. Mojang added unseen features to Minecraft and then some. Coding java is really hard, and I mean REALLY HARD! So just shut up and eat your damn mutton!
If there is any proof of how lazy they are now this is it. Marking stuff as "works as intended" is complete horse poop.
Yes, just yes. They're not owned by EA, but they sure feel like it now..

They have been marking things "works as intended" long before the Microsoft deal.

Would be interesting to download and install mods in a method similar to Steam's Workshop.
Really? Can you show me some things they marked?
You mean when the house is too high up?

It isn't related to the Microsoft deal.
Well, what do you know.
And who knows? They could possibly retcon the decision and actually face it.
And now that I think about, it's not really a bug. The terrain is randomized, so things like that will happen.
