I'm constantly using at least some version of Sphax, whether it's Sphax Grunge (my favorite), Sphax Christmas, etc. The regular Sphax is updated to the latest version and looks great. Sphax overall leans more toward the cartoon side vs the realistic side, but it's a really really well made texture/resource pack. There's also some solid mod support in older versions for some of the more popular mods.
I honestly just miss the RPG texture packs, you doku or something, i forget the name but it was a texture pack the yogscast used for the longest of times.
Stick with default, it's a clean, cut simple texture pack that lasts through the ages.
No. I dont like default. You may like them but I do not, however I am not telling you to use texture packs. I like rpg texture packs, Ive been using them since 1.3 beta. I just need to find the updated ones. There used to be a popular rpg texturepack with many versions but idk what its called and im not sure if its even updated. It was in 16, 32+ etc

EDIT2: Wasnt there a site to pick out what you want in a texture pack and it made it for you? I think it was all doukucraft related, or is that site down now?

I think I know what you're talking about. I haven't seen it in ages, but is it painterly or something like that?

Same idea as that, but it was for dokucraft i think before the update that included other wooden doors, I remember choosing which one I wanted from a site that made a custom one for you.
Painterly is the only one I knew of that does that. Good luck finding it though.
I found a dead site that used to do it, and another websites that ysas if you made a texture pack with options you can upload it to that site and give other people options to pick from.
I forgot the name of the site I used to adore browsing around in.. crap.. but I do know I typed it into google and ran across the site around one of the first results.. try ditsing around on google and picking around in the first few relevant search results... like I just typed in 'realistic minecraft resource packs' or something like that and popped into a website.. dont be afraid to glance at the google images and follow a picture back to the origin page to see if it is a downloadable thing or not.. also do not be afraid to be specific.

Ok did texture packs format changed? Last time I checked every block texture was on one image, now it seems to be a ton of images. What update did that change?

Some time back in beta, a LONG time ago. They are called resourcepacks now, they can contain sounds and 3D blocks. Also, you don't need patches for high resolution anymore.
Ive been playing for far too long, and sicne the massive updates many of my fav texture packs are now out of date.
Does anyone know any good decent texture packs? Please make some suggestions
Well, I'm not a big fan of most resource packs, but the one I really do like is Coterie Craft.
However, if I'm "not" using a resource pack then I'm using this pack which adds animations for many of the items, and it looks pretty good.
I personally like DustyCraft. Sadly, he doesn't update it very often, but it looks very nice.
Otherwise, LITHOS is very nice if you want something that looks like default, but with more detail.
I want something that is updated and doesnt look like default minecraft.

Dokucraft? John Smith?
That was it. Are they still updated?

Sidenote: thats also outdated

misa+ is an oldschool pack from 1.6.4, but personally its my favorite.
its worth finding some extra textures to fill in the spots.
like if you saw the dispensers and stuff... amazing.
the ender dragon looks good too. and the witches.
