Keeping personal info in minecraft books might actually be a good idea. After poking around in my world file with NBTedit, i can confirm that the book data is hidden pretty deep in the region folder of your save. It seems that it would be hard for a hacker to find it since he would have to know the exact chunk you hid the book in.
P.S. I'm not worrying about the NSA simply because 1. i have nothing to hide, 2. There are worse people than the government to be tracked by.
I fail to see how this is a theory. Its just a proposal, and doesn't make much sense. Great, I hid my book in my single player world. Now, if the criminal looks in my files like they usually would...
Theyll still find it

lel, your making it harder then it needs to be, lol.
scenario: sensitive information in minecraft world save
execution: nsa ops work with microsoft/mojang to get the account info of suspect.
nsa ops login to suspect account, selecting from the vast amount of exploit clients already out there made by the peeps on HF, the ops can locate the potential target blocks, bookcases and chests.
nsa ops find the hidden chest containing the information they want.
mission completed, endgame scenario, suspect goes to prison.

Of course, this is assuming the government knows what they are looking for. A random NSA agent wouldnt be like "Hey I think this guy is hiding his info in Minecraft".
often, they do know, everyone posts their activities on open sites like facebook, twitter and the like, lol. so yes, a randon nsa op would already have the lead if the op's target was an active mc player, therefore squished

Well I guess it depends on the individual. Most adults wouldn't post their Minecraft activities onto social media anyways. So anyways, besides Minecraft, what other games can people hide text in? I originally thought of this idea based on Minecraft but I am thinking that this could extend to other games as well.
I'd be more worried about spyware made by hackers to steal my passwords. I doubt people have made spyware that can properly check the region files. Again, the books are hidden deep within the region folder.

wrong, lel, alot assume only kids play games, but its not true, lel. people of all ages play games
You do realize they are violating your 4th amendment, right? Whatever you search online they keep on record. And they DO have a profile on you. They just save everything because storage is so cheap. If for whatever reason they don't like you, they can hold that profile against you. That's why I recommend Tor browser also. P.S. They know where you're going as well. That's why you should disable your location settings and put tape over your webcam. They can see you.

Just throwing it out there, but couldn't someone write some form of algorithm that could search out that particular book data? I mean, we look for stuff manually, but if you want to find data quickly, you write some kinda search program that can zero in on the data you're looking for.
I agree on your PS. If I was that worried about being tracked I'd be doing something other than playing MC right now.

You can modify chickens so that, instead of laying eggs, they lay live bees. Dwarf Fortress: crimes against nature simulator.

Good point, but this would require the average hacker to randomly decide that the victim is keeping their information in their minecraft save. Although, I wouldn't suggest anyone who replied to this thread to ever use this method, if a hacker saw this thread and developed a program to find the book data, he would know who to hack first...
The text of the books appear to just be stored in the level.dat file. So if they thought to look there at all, I imagine it would be easy to find.

Yea. I'm unfamiliar with what the raw book data looks like, but I'd assume the program would check for keywords among all files found on the computer.
So if you peoples are reading this....we're on to you...........

And thus the Minecraft Mafia family was born....

Unfortunately, they are plain text.
