I like you're points, and to some varying degree, I do agree that it may be some psychological inconvenience that I and undoubtedly many other "classic" members are most likely experiencing. Minecraft can't be thought of as that one game that only a few of the people in your class had, and it wasn't a big deal, like it used to be, and now that it's globally popular, its still not a big deal. Although I wish it could go back to the charming little alpha stage that was so fun and unique, I won't. There is no use trying to keep some nostalgic emotions towards something undergoing limitless evolution, no matter how passionately I may feel about it.

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter. Fair exchange?
I absolutely agree with you (I'm 11). Though I can't describe myself (that would make me look as a smug), I can say in my defense that I don't like to cuss and usually, I don't even play in big servers. Though, I feel that sometimes it doesn't matter if you see inappropiate content if it doesn't affect you. For example, I've watched the Yogcast and even... (Smosh). And since my parents understood that, I'm in the computer since I can remember. Probably since I learned to write and read, when I was 3. And they don't bother me. I probably began playing videogames and searching mods since I was 6. By the way, I hate when people of my age act like this which makes stereotypes. I know it seems odd that you should be 18 to enter this, and I'm 11, but I don't care. The important thing here is the way you act.
*If I made a mistake, please correct me. (My main language is Spanish, and if you want to know, I'm learning Japanese 日本語)
This is not a new thing. MC is for all ages and the devs clearly want that to continue. Kids are encouraged to play the game, so they do. As for them being immature? Most of us were at those ages. You gotta grow up sometime. I wasn't a kid but I kinda "grew up" playing Diablo 1 online. I was a terrible community member but I learned a lot about how to be less annoying. At least MC gives us the opportunity to choose from thousands of servers so we can avoid kids if we want to.
Also without all these kids MC wouldn't be the behemoth it is now. Notch wouldn't be able to retire in Beyonces mansion. Will someone please think of the Notch?
You're alive :O, missed ya on the forums (feels like PPNS was decades ago, when I look back at my fundie days...)
On topic:
Minecraft was never a kids game, nor an adult game. It was simply a game target at all age groups. Think of it like Legos. You can be 8, you can be 80. No matter your age, there is no stigma on playing Minecraft.
Minecraft isn't changing, the people who play it are.
True. Now people think minecraft is all about PVP and Youtube. I wish there were more mature minecraft players, and not sadistic untalented egotistic little kids who live in their mom's basement yelling BUDDERBUDDERBUDDER.
I agree.
Yeah.Because remember. Normal little kids live in their own apartment and make 6 figures.
Well, Sarcasm. Let's end this, I don't want a fight and we could both get banned. ALL HAIL THE ADMIN! ALL HAIL THE ADMIN!
I only knew about minecraft when I was 9! I never played it until I was 11, which is now. I've managed to out-build my whole class. I'm only 11, and I get ticked off when someone says "MINECRUFF IZZ ALLABOWT PVP LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO BUDDERBUDDERBUDDER"
I know. The gaming community has gotten so big, that some game communities make stereotypes about other game communities. People think minecraft players are all ignorant little sky fans! The majority is.
he can't be all three. at least 2 are blatant lies.
so then OMGItsMrC. are you going to man up and come clean and admit you lied?
Stop being such a jerk man! He lied, so what. We all have at some point. He's intelligent, and we can all admit that. Not many people let 12 year olds into their server. If this guy is 12, he had valid reason to lie there. It's a server, not his taxes. Lay off.
To OP, if you are 12, good on you man. You're officially more intelligent than some of the older people here. *nudges barrygateaux*
Minecraft is changing because of its players. Like I said, the things that they are selling are mostly kids toys, even youtube minecraft is changing. Just take a look at Stampylongnose and you'd think you were watching a show on Nick Jr.
Although I don't enjoy his videos, I do think that Stampy has caught on to something that a lot of youtubers haven't, and that is that the majority of people on youtube are 8-12 year old kids (that's a very rough estimation), at least when it comes to minecraft. A lot of other youtubers would like to think that there making content for mature adults (to be fair there are probably quite a lot of adults who watch lets plays, just not as much), but the reality is that most of them are young kids. And when kids start listening to metric tons of adult language, it simply doesn't end well. Stampy, and certain other youtubers (paulsoaresjr, Ethoslab, and TheDiamondMinecart), have caught on to this, and have adjusted to suite their audience.
That's my opinion.
I wish all kids, and people in general, were as mature and educated as the op. It actually makes me happy to see such an eloquently written and well thought-out post coming from someone so young. I pretty much agree that Minecraft being flooded with kids and generally lazy/unintelligent/uninspired people of all ages has had a negative affect on the overall quality of the community. Basically quality was sacrificed for quantity. We need to just face it, most people are dumb. I know college graduates who couldn't spell the word "deer" and where I live even the most illiterate rednecks can spell that because they deer hunt. -puts on my tinfoil hat- Honestly I think there's some kind of grand conspiracy to keep smart people down and reward people for mediocrity/stupidity.
This mainly goes for the "Minecraft is a sandbox" Reply. I know that it isn't assigned to a particular age, but if you walk up to one of your peers (Assuming your 14+) and say you play Minecraft, the majority that don't actually play with will see you as playing a kids game
Must be a kid thing because my friends are all 20s to late 30s and none of them see it as a kids game. If I had to guess they just view it as a game for all ages.

That is actually an interesting point. I noticed that basically all the people who agree with the thread either do not give an age or say they are around the same age as the OP. Whereas older people (me, as well as other staff here and some of my coworkers) seem to find it enjoyable for all ages.
I kind of think the preteen and teens that share these feelings may just be too close to the issue. They see their classmates playing it (both older and younger kids) and of course you then have the common game squabbles of that age, where "X is a baby game". I saw that happen for Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Yugioh, and a dozen other ones.
Later on, and this is again judging from my experiences and the words of my peers, you realize it doesn't matter who likes it, as long as you enjoy it. There simply isn't enough time to be concerned with what the community is or their collective thoughts.

At the time of those posts, I wasn't necessarily comfortable about telling my age onto a domain such as the internet for all to interpret. I've just now seen your posts and will admit that I've lied about my age because many people my age are seen as gullible and easy to be taken advantage of.
I wasn't avoiding your posts either, just simply haven't seen them.

Yes, I do agree with that point, but, speaking for myself, I am not the most social or most popular kid, Playing a game that has been so heavily stereotyped and generalized, no matter how complex and mature it is in reality, doesn't necessarily keep me from being confronted or teased, and I would like to avoid a confrontation over something that ridiculous. I wish that other people would actually sit down and try the game before making assumptions. Like another commenter stated, It gives people delight and attention to criticize something popular, like Minecraft.

very interesting discussion. And i can agree. I started back in 1.7 beta, right before they released the adventure update, and even then, i can remember the communities, and just how... perfect there where. And i think this problem is the reason notch left minecraft and left mojang. Back in the day, he had a small group of follows, that where more like friends, that would all code together, have inputs of ideas, and all played on there little minecraft server together, doing the most insane things. But once minecraft became more popular, more and more of the mature, genius, community started hiding away, and not saying much, while the immature community stepped up, and began the lovely stereotype we know today.
I see the same way with all the console and pocket editions. its too... easy.
the one for sure way to rid all games of the idiots, is to increase the difficulty, make no available DLCS or "payToUnlock" things. I hope one day, minecraft completely dies out. and when it does, hopefully the old notch, the old mojang, with the old community, will step up, and take back what was stolen from them.
btw, i'v never seen a mature pre-teen.. congrats to you my higala
As long as people keep presenting those mods I'll be happy
Although, while I did start playing in Alpha I only played multiplayer in late-beta and onwards. I haven't really been bothered by kids though, as long as they keep to themselves (or allow me to).
Because of these issues, I spent hours going through dozens of servers trying to find one without an insane community such as mineplex or such servers. I spend my time on about two servers, one of which is whitelisted to friends I know are reasonable. I agree with all that this original thread has said. I try to go on servers with more mature players in their teen years. Keeps my sanity together.

you bring up some interesting points about the game and the community around it and I have to say I agree 100% with you on this.
Thanks for putting your time and effort into this!
