I just got the update, then I went to login to a world I had created a few weeks ago and I got the "Connection to server lost exiting to main menu" error!
i'm getting this error too, save games from all the title updates arent working. every time it says connection to server lost exiting to main menu.
the way i fixed was by disconnecting from my network

i reconnected to my network after saving it and it says cannot connect to server, maybe its an issue with their authentication servers. i can play my saves when my console isn't connected to the internet though.

Confirmed. Thanks for posting this, I was getting pretty annoyed at not being able to access my saved games.
I did the update, deleted all my worlds, started a new one, then quit/saved to get some sleep.
Later I tried to open this new TU9 world and got the error.
Deleted that world.
Created a new one, saved it.
No problem opening it from the save.
(I did not disconnect from the internet during all this time).
(I have a Silver account).
(This was before I read the "solution" here).
My kids have a free account(silver), and are getting this error.
If they play with a non xbox live account all works fine.
I created a new world on the xbox live account, and saved and exited, and it would not load that one either. But I did not delete all their old worlds.. I would have a mutiny on my hands if I did that
O.K. So Microsoft is trying to get us all to upgrade huh? J/K
How do you reinstall the update? I cleared my cache and it did not reinstall.
Clearing your cache by itself does not uninstall the update. To uninstall the update, you have to go into your Minecraft area on your hard drive and delete it separately. It has been this way since TU7.
Has anyone else had this error?
I have plenty of old saves and they all work with TU9.
