consider this: Leaderboard scores and achievements will be disabled for ANY WORLD ON CREATIVE. dont you think that 4J then considers creative something that is "not legit"? if it was legit then why disable those features? why because 4J understands this is also a massive sandbox game and people love to create things. thats why they have modes that arent creative so you can actually play survival as well and earn things
to me legit means (building wise) that you took the time to build whatever it is yourself. you didn't some how mod your save so the building just appears. duped or not, if you build it yourself it's legit.

because you can mine any block with ONE hit. saying 4J doesn't consider creative "legit" just because you can't one hit blocks to get on the leaderboards is kind of dumb.
You cant you classify a game legit or not if its sole purpose is not even clearly defined. Minecraft has no defined end game goal to achieve. You do as you please and make your own goal.
Legit to me means two different things to me. Duping is okay in my book. Like it was said before, people may not have the time in the say to spend 12-15 hours mining for 8 diamonds. Plus, to dupe, you need to find the items in the first place to dupe them. Once you start using an inventory editor to get bedrock, sponge, and monster spawners.(or anything really) it becomes cheating.
Building is completely legit, even if you take ideas from someones work, because you can't make a sphere unless, well....you make it.

People can mine blocks in one hit, and people can achievement boost. They can just give themselves all the rails needed to get the on a rail achievement for example. They won't have to find all the gold and iron.
Legit - Didn't get resources you have( such as Cobble or Diamond ) in a legit manner. Meaning, you cheated. Whether it be X-Ray Mod, or Creative, or the infamous TMI.
My only legit world ever is the one on my computer right now, and I'm in a Swamp Biome and there are sheep everywhere. Took me a couple days to get some diamonds, took me 30 minutes to find a Nether Fortress and about to go End Portal Hunting.
Such a fine line to cross, yet also unmarked for this game. Each individual seems to have their own idea in how the game should be played to the point that legit has really no meaning. At least not in the conventional sense. To me if you build it yourself or with others, it is legit. This is not saying how they got the materials, as it doesn't really matter to me. It is their game save not mine. How do you even look legit? that is also a fine line. No matter this topic is too much to consider if not would cause too much of a flamer burning contest. So I for one don't really care about this word Legit.
All that matter is that you have fun, building what you can, in the way that you want to do things, within the limitations of the game and its' glitches/bugs(when present).
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Legit in my book is building a fantastic world without the use of mods, hacks, inventory editors, or glitches.
Survival Legit is when you build amazing stuff by gathering your resources yourself and still beable to use the leader board.
To answer your first question, I go with the dictionary definitions:
le·git·i·mate (l-jt-mt) adj. 1. Being in compliance with the law; lawful: a legitimate business. 2. Being in accordance with established or accepted patterns and standards: legitimate advertising practices. 3. Based on logical reasoning; reasonable: a legitimate solution to the problem. 4. Authentic; genuine: a legitimate complaint. 5. Born of legally married parents: legitimate issue. 6. Of, relating to, or ruling by hereditary right: a legitimate monarch. 7. Of or relating to drama of high professional quality that excludes burlesque, vaudeville, and some forms of musical comedy: the legitimate theater.
To answer your second question. Buildings made with creative mode will be:
1. In compliance with the law (that is, it is not against the law in my country to play Minecraft on an XBox in Creative Mode
2. In accordance with established patterns (that is, people on the PC version have been building in Creative Mode for a very long time)
3. Based on logical reasoning (that is, it is reasonable to expect that some people prefer to build rather than spend mindless hours depressing the Right Trigger to obtain pixels to build pixel structures with)
4. Authentic (that is, it's all pixels and one pixel is just as "real" as any other)
5. and 6. are irrelevant
7. People who build large historical buildings to scale or design entire cities or make very complex redstone "machines" have my respect regardless of how they obtained the pixels to make those things happen. They have talents that far exceed my own in these areas and I admire their work for what it is - LEGITIMATELY CREATIVE!

I don't think that's an indicator at all of "illegitimacy." It's the "price" 4J have set on utilizing the convenience of Creative Mode. When I park, I plug the parking meter and I'm legitimately parked. IF I circumvented the parking fee, that's when I would be illegally parked. IF someone figured out a glitch where they used Creative Mode and arranged it such that their world was still counting towards the leaderboards, then and only then would that make their map "not legit."
Creative mode came from notch to give those who just want to build in a lot less time build. It is legit. If I duped, and created a structure its still legit because I still had to take the 30+ mins to build the thing with the materials and use my creative input. I was just duping because I miss creative. I don't want to waste my time searching 8+ hours to find all the needed diamonds and cobblestone/wool/iron needed to create a kick a structure for show.
If I wanted to play survival then I would on a difficulty. I would then build a structure (Maybe good looking depending on mood.) and scavenge for resources and fend off against mobs.
(of a person) Not engaging in illegal activity or attempting to deceive; honest.
Using creative breaks no rules. Assuming you didn't lie about using creative, then said build passes every single possible definition of "legit". If people are using their own homemade definition of the word, that isn't my problem. As far as I'm concerned, if you're going speak the language, its your job to use it correctly. If you're going to change what words mean all willy nilly, then I see no reason for you to expect the rest of world would acknowledge it.
Technically dupe worlds would not, then, be legit. The rules state clearly that glitching and abusing game errors isn't allowed. That said, I could not give a whit less about that. Why in the world would I care about how legit something is? That's something children do, worry over things that neither concern them or impact their lives in any way. We're all going to die a lot sooner than we'd like to. I'll save my time wasting worry for things that actually pertain to me and have an impact on my life. Like my job, or bills.
Built something in Creative Mode? It's legit because it's part of the game. Built something in Survival? It's legit because survival is part of the game.
Built something with duping? I'm not impressed because you abused a glitch to do it. A glitch isn't part of the game, no matter how many people try to defend it as such. That's just my view.
Legit in Minecraft for me is playing within the confines of that game and using what the game has provided you.
no duping. Do dying. If you die, you delete the game save.
No stack jumping to safety for the night
No boxing yourself in for the night. Shelter must have a doorway that is open or with a door.
I look at the quality of the build. If you use creative, there should be no reason a build looks like crap, you have inifinite blocks.

For example, I was the first to record and post a video of a Legit Enderdragon battle, back in the 1.9's.
I play Slave Hack, give it a try!

Yes. Because that is how they designed the game to be played. Simple as that.
FYI: This is NOT a shot at dupers or duping. I've done it (GASP)
