My main map world has reached 450 MB and has become unplayable due to lag. It's almost 1 year old. I did a lot of exploring looking for a mesa biome (never found one.) In some cases traveling 7000 blocks away from spawn. It was getting laggy at 300 MB and then after some more exploration it got worse. That's when I started to think it was the size.
I thought the way minecraft (and most games) work is that map size doesn't matter since it only loads your surrounding area. Unfortunately, It's literally unplayable and I'm going to have to abandon it. I was trying to battle a wither that got loose and because of the thousands of block it destroyed and were floating around, I literally could not move due to lag. After waiting for the broken blocks to despawn I could move again, but my world is still annoyingly laggy in general.
Has anyone else run into this? I don't have lots of redstone or anything. My builds are actually very simple.
I'm using a high end Dell laptop. i5, 16 gb ram, Nvidia graphics, SSD etc so performance should not be a problem.
Something to note is that my world started out as Realm. I eventually downloaded it and cancelled my subscription since we were mostly playing locally. Not sure if that could have anything to do with it. Like it was written differently or something.
Does anyone else have huge worlds? Can more memory be allocated like it can in Minecraft PC?
Mine was at 780MB until I did an export and reimport now it is something like 650mb and runs much smoother. The interesting part is I didn't lose anything. Also another world on my pocket edition that exported to my realm had the same kind of results. I made a video about it.
It improved a bit. It was perfect for about 3 minutes and then it started lagging again. It's mostly when I am near my spawn base area. When I'm firhter away from that area it seems ok. Maybe it's time to move into the jungle.

I'll give that a try.

Do you have any redstone? Sometimes if you have accidentally created a clock or other continuous loop things can get laggy.
