My sons have the new Windows 10 version but so far have only connected with each other locally (LAN). Is there a way to connect to a server? Can you connect to PE servers? Is there a release plan for when servers will be running for the Windows 10 Edition?
If you’re extra clever, it’s even possible to play with your friends across the world through the medium of the internet. Unfortunately, setting this up might only work if you have direct access to your router and familiarity with the often frustrating and slightly sad activity known as Port Forwarding. Attempt with caution, crafters.
Online play is something of a work in progress. That said, it’s pretty cool if you get it set up. Click Play, then New, then the funny little plus-sign-arrow-thing in the corner, and add the name and IP address of the server you want to join. Good luck!"

Thanks!
Sorry, no Win10 servers, and I've heard of no plans for them.
Hopefully that changes :/
See the News page about the update.
It says:

I think do there will be server for windows 10 edition maybe next year
enable port forwarding for minecraft, you gotta really want to play if you're doing that haha
Help me can't join servers
hey whats your xbox name I can invite you to my world and show you some of my things and maybe we can work together on it?
Sigh, there's no "servers", as you're thinking of them, for Win10.
However, you can play with others using Live.
(And Realms is "coming soon").
As lickwidsoap said, you've really got to be desperate to play with "friends" around the world to even try it.
Remember, you don't have to play the Win10 version! There's plenty of other versions that work just fine.
