I'd like to build a shelter stocked with supplies at the place that I respawn when my home bed is missing or obstructed.
So I tested to figure out exactly where I respawn; I broke the last bed I slept in, and killed myself several times to figure out the coordinates of the respawn. But almost every single time, the place I respawn at is close to the last place I respawned (within 20 blocks), but not exactly the same spot.
So does anyone know how Minecraft calculates where you'll respawn? Is it random within a certain area (like a chunk)? And if so, how do you figure out the size and center point of that area so you can build a perimeter around it?

Well, here are the results of my testing--and I still don't get it.
With my home bed broken, I killed myself tens of times, each time marking the spot with diamond blocks. I always respawned facing south and standing almost directly in between two east-west blocks.
The spot I respawned was always within a 22 x 22 square, with four (2 x 2) center blocks. (If you subtract the coordinates from each other, you get that it's a 21 x 21 square, just like the Minecraft Wiki says it should be. But when building blocks across it, it's 22 x 22, because the numbers are inclusive.)
I'd hoped I'd be able to draw some universal conclusions that applied to all PS4 worlds from this data, but I'm still stumped about how you would find out your world's respawn area (or its center point) without doing what I did--that is, killing yourself a bunch of times and marking the spot you respawn at.
Break your bed and then go to the end. Drop one piece of cobble (or any item) through the return portal, now return to the overworld. The item you dropped through the portal will spawn on the world spawn point, giving you a definate center point without killing yourself. Keep in mind that the spawn center is actually four blocks. The item will spawn in the southeast corner of the northwest block of the center (hope that makes sense?) if I'm remembering it right.
