I've read a few (many) posts about distance, but I'm having problem with understanding the distance when you have different hight (Y) on the start/stop point.
(My example image is a view from the side)
For example, monsters can spawn 24 blocks from you.
so If I'm standing on the blue blocks, monsters can spawn on the red blocks.
But, how do you calculate when it's both Y & X?
Can monster spawn on the green blocks?
And how do you calculate if the distance is both x,y,z?, (Monster spawn that is higher and diagonally?)
I've tried for a long time to get my head around this, but I'm just failing..
24 blocks is 24 blocks, doesn't matter what direction. I'm no expert in spawn distances but I'd say the green area is definitely going to be inside the spawn radius. Mobs will spawn 24 blocks above you, and I'm also pretty sure this measurement is diagonal as well. Basically, 24 blocks up on the Y axis then 24 blocks in either the positive or negative direction on either the X or Z axis will equal 24 block diagonally from whatever block you started on. I know this seems kind of long winded, and again I'm not even 100% sure how the Playstation 3 version calculates these things, but I hope this helps.
If you're in creative, build a bridge between point A and B, place one torch on every single block that's between point A and B (including point A and B), get rid of the torch that's in your inventory and break the blocks that are holding the torches and pick up all the torches, the amount of torches that you'll have in your inventory afterwards is the number of blocks between point A and B (including point A and B).

u know that I was talking about the spawning distance, not how to count block?
