Just wanted to update everyone on my earlier project about a union website. Its still under dev, but making progress.
So far the website features:
- Resource pack rating (only upvotes allowed, no negative votes to avoid renewed packs never digging out to the surface)
- Resource pack Detailed reviews (these do not affect the resource pack standing, they are only there as a helpfull guide for the authors)
- Ranks! Each author starts with rank 1, and earns ranks up to 4, with each rank, he gains more thrust, and is allowed to edit more stuff on their page, rank 4 will ofer amazing customization options aswell as some bonuses)
- Custom download links (every author has the ability to put whatever download link he / she desires, including adfly links)
- Page templates (everyone will be able to choose a page template to further customize the look of the page, this is ment for people who are rank 1 and have not yet unlocked the full customization options, or for thouse people who are not willing to edit their own pages)
- Sort packs by votes, size, platform, theme / cathegory
- Set multiple cathegories and sizes for a single pack (authors can set multiple themes / sizes for their pack, so whatever the user looks for, the pack will be listed under the appropriate group
- Page commens for users to leave feedback / commenst about each pack
- Forums and groups, to allow users / artists to make group projects or help people out, or just get an oppinion on some textures they are working on
- Live Notification system that will notify you of any replies / messages without refreshing the page
- More to come
Please if you have any sugestions, write them below.
Love the idea of live notifications.
You should make it so that Resource Pack Authors HAVE to put something for a description. At least something. Make it a required field. Even if it "dsgkfhgdsfhdsfkhdsaglfsa", it just needs to be filled out.
I'm especially wondering how entity models are going to work. I gather that they use JSON for pretty much everything, but in my brief search I haven't found any actual examples of model code. Will they allow custom models, or just reassignment of vanilla models? What about animations? Armor? Held item positions? Texture layers, for spiders and endermen? I can sense that this is going to become Minecraft: JSON Edition. Anyway, I'm also slightly amused because I am already developing my own entity models mod for the PC version and it has full entity models and basic animations.
renamed as in I took a .wav and changed the filetype to .ogg by renaming it
Just want to clear something up that might have mislead you: changing a blank file or text file to .json only works because JSON files ARE essentially text files, and text files are just... text (in the encoding that your text editor gives it). Plain text is the simplest format.
I thought it would be a great addition to resource packs. But something more realistic I could see in the future is finally having entity models that you can edit.
I'm wondering how they'll interact with resource packs...
In MCPE they will likely be indistinguishable from resource packs, MCPC will likely have them entirely separated, as MCPE and MCPC have already differentiated on this with loot tables. I doubt that they will be allowed in MCPC through resource packs even with a warning that makes users aware that the pack does game tweaks, which is quite disappointing because it will likely turn out clunky like other features (like loot tables already are in MCPC).

That kinda defeats the point. It should at least be something like "This pack is bright and colorful, I made it because my pet goldfish fluffernutters likes to watch me play Minecraft, especially with preeety colors! Use this pack if you have a pet goldfish, too!!!".

Hop on to MCPE or MCW10E, they already have custom entity models. It does allow changing models, there's even a mario pack out for MCPE with custom mobs. Many of those other things will likely not be released yet, but I dunno (haven't looked into it).
Also, did you know that Optifine already has an entity model system released (C4 pre, at least? Basic animations seem to be coming in the next version) that's likely going to become the defacto standard for a while (unless Mojang finally finishes entity models) so maybe you should contribute to Optifine's system if you can...

It’s the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out.
I’d rather be in, in a good system. That’s where my discontent comes from:
being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin’ straight ahead.

The author writes reviews on resource packs. I just saw Drazile post their Mario themed one and its already on the website with a review. Very interesting!
Its what they do. Scavenge PMC and MC forums and any other website to find things to put on theirs.
Now I don't mind my pack being on that website, but the owner of the website is slow to respond to updates... i had to wait 2 weeks for a reply to update my download links..
That kinda defeats the point. It should at least be something like "This pack is bright and colorful, I made it because my pet goldfish fluffernutters likes to watch me play Minecraft, especially with preeety colors! Use this pack if you have a pet goldfish, too!!!".
Well obviously. I was just saying that to submit the pack 7 make it public, it must have something. I doubt it will stay up if it has "djfldsafsdflkjdsflad" as the pack's description. We would take it down, but still

To be frank, I don't think any external 'TAU' union web-site would work. There is just not enough people and discussion to warrant such a new web-site. Whilst I'm sure you will make it a nice web-site, I just cannot see it working.
Also, I can't see yet another texture-cum-resource pack website flourishing in the now somewhat tepid/lukewarm Minecraft waters. There already is a well-established forum for learning things like CTM and texturing: this one. Making yet another Minecraft forum is only diluting an already somewhat smaller texturing community down.
I know there are many others, but why not provide the community with a better service? I know you can share your RP anywhere, but would you rather share it somewhere you have full controll or somewhere where you have to send e-mails to update?
Point of my project is to help artists and resource pack makers to better share their packs, have controll over the look of their page, etc. etc.
I've been thinking about getting into the whole Youtube resource pack reviews game since, let's be honest, most of the "reviews" out there really stink and there are a lot of packs that end up never getting a proper spotlight just because the video makers either don't know what they're talking about or just get bored with it before they get very far. While I obviously can't make a lot of promises given the state of that whole "real life" thing that keeps getting in my way, I'd like to give it a shot just to see what people think.
To that end, I'm asking for a guinea pig. Someone who would volunteer to have their pack reviewed on my channel. Preferably someone who would be available for some questions should I have any. Would any of you like a critique/review of your pack? Please let me know.
And no, I don't have an example to show. That's why I'm asking for a volunteer. I'd rather review the pack of a willing community member than just grab a random pack to experiment on.

Yes! I totally agree! It realy bothers me how lack luster the resource packs reviews are, often shining light on PvP rip off of Faithful.
I'd offer my pack, Morning Star, as the guinea pig, but it's so unfinished and requires lots of improvements.
Here's some 1.11 textures I've made for faithful while vattic is gone, using what I saw in the stream.
(The Observer is assembled from found textures in the pack, Shulker shell is 100% from scratch, Totem of undying is up-scaled into 32x.)
The guy in my pfp isn't me he's just really hot.
Just posted my 'new' pack!
check out the forum thread for more!

There will be required fields and screen shots. Some basic info must be provided.

I'd prefer to do published packs, but thank you for the offer.

Hey there, You can try my pack https://affinity-hd.xyz
It has some bugs, some mobs are still not done, but it's been live for around 4-5 years now, and i'm constantly working on updates.
If you need any help contact me via PM or view my skype on my profile and add me.
Cheers! If the review is good, I would like to add it on my Pack Discover page along with a few other videos already on there.
Excellent! Thank you.
Anyone else want to throw their hat into the ring? I'd like to have options if possible.
Or are you all just waiting to see if I fall on my face with this? It's OK. I understand if you are.
