Lots of ideas though! I'm always open to more ideas, but can't guarantee I'll use or like them.
If I were to throw out an idea for them that I think would look good for the pack and would still fit with where the blocks appear in the underwater temples. I would suggest blocks that look like victorian copper steampunk designs that have patinated over.
Lots of ideas though! I'm always open to more ideas, but can't guarantee I'll use or like them.
I've been fixing too many other things that 1.9 broke (which is a huge task!) and working on lots of things that have been bugging me about the pack. Trying to get those niggles (big and small) out of the way is my way of clearing the table to work on new things.
I've wasted the past couple of days trying to update my OP unsuccessfully - every time I make a change and click on the preview button I'm still getting a preview full of missing pics, videos, incorrect text formatting, and missing and garbled BBCode. This hassle is one of those things that put me off MC last year. I've been in touch with cirticsquid on the forums here and he's made some suggestions which I need some clarification on, or I'll end up having to massively edit everything out and just have a couple of pics. It's a frustrating process not being able to even edit one single word in my OP! If I can finally get this OP problem sorted I should be in a position to update more regularly as I work on updating fully to 1.9.
I did have a productive weekend fixing all my Youtube video editing problems, as you can see from the 'Repeater, Comparator, Lever' video above, but it was another huge sidetrack from the business of updating the pack. I'm at least now in a position to more quickly put HD quality video of current work up on Youtube. I needed that sorted to be able to properly demonstrate the new GS Sound Pack, which represents a great deal of work.
Other real world commitments take up a lot of my time too.
I hate to say this - but have you tried creating a new thread, instead? It might be easier than trying to fix the original.
This one has 650 pages, which may be part of the problem.

Yes, we talked about this way back late 2014 if I remember. I said back then that prismarine might be more metal textures and possibly some kind of control panels as the Guardian Temples look like some kind of giant 'Nautilus' submarine. Back then I was looking at all sorts of ideas - 'patinated' copper could be a possibility though, I already have masses of weathered copper panel texture pics in my 'inspirations' folder.
I'm still not really sure what I will choose yet as I've been trying out lots of different ideas and not had a chance to settle on something I was really happy with. The more I veer away from the norm with textures, the more difficult it gets for me.
Just trying to fix lots of things now to give me a clean slate to work with...it's ridiculous how much changed with 1.9.

The Auld Grump
I'd hate to lose this post and all it's history, even though I could still refer back to it. I'd still need to completely re-write all the info
I've been in touch with citricsquid (Minecraft Forums, Curse Media staff), who got back to me earlier this week to say he had re-looked at my OP again and has found that an 'erroneous closing tag' has found it's way into my original post, inserted by the forum editor, and this causes my Imgur albums and other things to suddenly disappear if I try to 'preview' any new edits I make! citric was able to fix this, however in fixing it it generated more problems associated with another forum issue that he is already investigating - related to iFrame embeds (whatever that means).
citric is getting back to me on this as soon as he can, but I haven't heard anything back yet, and just at the moment I'm not rushing to start editing the OP!
My only worry now is that I've already experimented with a new post, slowly building up a new OP and when I reach a certain amount of text Imgur pics and other stuff starts disappearing again! So why does the forum editor keep inserting the same 'erroneous closing tag' in a fresh post!?
Glim, do you still have the old 32x pack anywhere? I have time to update it for newer MC versions if you don't have time.
I'm not really wanting the 32x pack reviving just at the moment, Vermillion. At least not until I have the main 64x pack more up-to-date so that a revived 32x version will properly reflect the look I'm after. However, when I'm more on top of things I'll have a look back for the last 32x version I did and I can't think of anyone else more capable of doing the job than you, especially as you prefer 32x. It would also have to be done within the confines of this thread rather than as a separate pack thread.
Like a lot of things at the moment, you'll have to bear with me on that one...hope you understand.

Oh, that's easy!
It hates you.
The forum software is obviously a digital agent of Mr. Hamilton -
Not long after I posted about my OP editing woes, citricsquid contacted me to say he was still waiting to hear from the development team and as they don't work over the weekend it won't be until Monday or Tuesday of next week now.
Anyways, lots to work on in the meantime. Got sidetracked on making some very versatile vertical/horizontal ctm steel girders that do all sorts of nice 'girdery' things with just one block...namely the enderstone block, which I've been wanting to update for a while and which is central to me showing off the 'GS Sounds pk1' in a vid.
Have a nice weekend. We have a 'bank holiday' Monday this weekend so an extra day off!

I found several of the older versions from back when I did all the mod support for GSP, and have been refitting it for use with modern minecraft.

Very good...saves me the bother of looking through all my hard drives.
Now, having given this some more thought, keep in mind I'm still thinking about the pros and cons of a 32x pack concurrent with the main 64x pack, if (and I stress 'if') I want another 32x version of my pack flying around, it will need to meet with my approval, and this part you may not like, as I know you have other preferences. It will have to follow as closely as possible every part of my main pack, ie. reflect as closely as possible each block I design. Basically, I don't want any 'alternative' 'Glimmar's Steampunk' packs floating around either within or without this thread and I would be looking more for an accurate down-scaled version of every block and texture in the pack...or I wouldn't be interested at all. I don't want to feel I am in competition with another GS pack or stressing over being left behind because I have other 'real life' things to do.
So, by all means work on a 32x version, but don't upload for public use here or anywhere else until I approve or indeed decide I want a 32x version. At the moment while I'm updating I definitely don't want another updated 32x version to be made available.
I know you want to help, Vermillion, and your work on 'mod' support is excellent and very much appreciated, but as I've also mentioned to Megistus in the past, there's no greater disincentive to me, with my limited free time, than to have textures for the main pack offered for updates I'm still working on. I in no way wish to offend anyone, least of all yourself, but any new textures needed for updates I wish to be free to work on without undue influence, other than suggestions or ideas.
I would much rather you or anyone else would concentrate your considerable talents and energies on any or all supporting mods, as that would be really helpful to me and I can only hope you understand where I'm coming from...as one artist to another.

And therein lies the problem...
I never said I was going to distribute it and i'm not going to (Unless of course you wanted me to); but i'm probably not alone in wanting the old unique textures of GSP that I fell in love with, rather than these... normal new ones that in some places are just plainly not suitable for survival (mesa for example, which was brought up earlier), which is where I play.
As for ideas and suggestions, would you take a screenshot of the 32x pack's "new blocks" as inspiration? (They are built from your textures after all. Just modified by me to suit their new role.)

What I said shouldn't be a problem for you...
I understand about hardened stained clay blocks not looking 'normal' in the mesa biome and have already said that when time allows I will make an 'add-on' to cover that, but only when I have the time and inclination. Work on the main pack in 'whatever' form is my area...and however long the work takes is something folk will have to put up with I'm afraid. I'm already working on lots of new things and there is lots I want to update and even more that needs repair for 1.9.
Who knows, the forum tech guys might figure out what the problem is with my OP and then I might decide to update on a regular basis, as and when I finish each bit of work. But no promises there, I don't get paid enough to feel too guilty about that...wait a minute, I don't get paid anything at all really!
As for the new (1.8, 1.9 ?) 32x blocks you've made and are kindly offering to show, again I'd politely ask that you left that to me to do first...showing a screenshot of finished 1.8, 1.9 blocks is way different than someone saying, "I think prismarine blocks would look good as weathered copper"...I prefer the latter as an example of an 'idea' or 'suggestion'. Upload your GS alternative version later, if you want, after I've finished mine, but as mentioned in my last post, I'd be grateful if you'd stick to the mod support side of things while I'm still working on my main pack.
Now...digging my heels in...new rule (except this has already been made clear before): 'GS main pack' - "hands off!" only Glimmar works on this. 'GS supporting mods' (bearing in mind my 'legal' section rules) - open to help from volunteers (probably none now after that lecture! )
Thanks, mate.
Now, back to boat work for me, but pics and vids of other stuff coming soon.
.....GSv.18 - New CTM end_stone 'Steel Girder' Pics
This is an album of new ctm'd end_stone 'steel girder' block screenshots. The new end_stone block has had vertical, horizontal, repeat and different top, bottom and side faces applied to it to represent quite a varied and multi-purpose 'steel girder' block.
Dependent on how the block is joined together, it can be a large horizontal support girder, a decorative horizontal run, diagonal small and large girder system, a gantry style floor system on the top face and square heavily riveted ceiling on the bottom face...and more. This block also now nicely compliments a number of other blocks, including 'glass_silver' stained glass, coal_block, cauldron, etc. All except the cauldron have been used in the tower construction projects depicted above. I'm guessing at least 80% of the blocks in the steel tower are just the one ctm'd end_stone block.

Looks good, Glim. You're certainly the best when it comes to taking advantage of CTM texturing, and is an improvement on the old 32x End Stone.
So, let me get this straight: You don't mind me posting alternative textures (not a pack) for textures you've already done? Like alternative dirt, sand, grass or... cactus or something? Just as long as I don't post ones you haven't textured yet.
I can see that new girder block being useful in eiffel tower build.
Yes...and other such constructions on a greater scale and hopefully folk will let their imagination run riot in a structurally believable way.
I began a little while back to test out a small underwater construction and that was one of the things that prompted me to search for a good replacement girder system and toughened glass sections for those inevitable panoramic murky sea views. I'm hoping to eventually see some true flights of fancy.
The jukebox record cylinders edited as 'soundscapes' should really help everyone to appreciate their builds. There is a special undersea base/submarine soundscape which is still only partly edited yet (blame it on the 1.9 update for cutting that work short!), but it's already hugely atmospheric. Creak of metal, pulse of distant engines, pump sounds, drips and distant loudspeaker voices, etc.
Trying my best to coordinate a movie that best shows off the soundscapes, hence a lot of back-tracking to improve on certain textures.

Glad you like it, Vermillion.
As regards being the best with ctm, I'd say I'm way behind many others who have the advantage of also being more acquainted with programming than I am, particularly Norzeteus of the 'Norzeteus Space' pack...his work is incredibly ingenious, but if I have anything going for me it's a dogged persistence to achieve a certain look for something useful. I'm just about beginning to understand ctm, but I find the new .json set of instructions very difficult. I've got to grips with being able to make random blocks, but that's about it!
As regards alts...Hahaha...Lol! I have to admit I'm giggling maniacally at your persistence here.
At this stage, while I'm still actively editing old and new parts of the pack, I'd rather you worked only on complimentary mod textures. I'm well aware there are still so many old 32x textures that need upgrading, but I'd like to do those first as well as those new 1.8 and 1.9 textures before I get 'influenced' by 'advanced alts' posted by extremely capable artists like yourself. There are some very out of place 32x textures now and, oh boy, no-one is more frustrated than I that they're still there, especially as new stuff and new ideas keep coming along all the time...and real life itself waggles it's finger accusingly in the background (and I said 'real life' not 'real wife' there, just to be clear).
How can I put it...for me the GS resource pack is like a vast painting I'm working on, and I know it's taking a long, long time to get it right, but the last thing I want at this stage is another artist coming up to my work-in-progress painting and starting to add their own nice little additions to the canvas!
When I feel I've got on top of things (make a sacrifice to the gods...it might happen one day!) I won't feel so threatened by some nice alts, but just now it's a distraction that I don't want, especially if the ideas are similar to what I want to do anyway.
Look...alright...how about this...I will task you with making a small 'temporary' alt add-on pack that specifically covers only the stained clay, expressly for those who might want something more appropriate for survival play. This will not be an official add-on pack (unless I really never get round to doing something myself), but I'll consider putting it up in my OP when that gets fixed, so you might consider making a standard sized banner with 'Alt GS Natural Stained Clays by VermillionTwilight' or some such on it. Hopefully this will help me concentrate my limited time on other things whilst helping those (like yourself) currently living and working in the mesa biome.
Here's the simple brief:
--------------------------------------------
The stained clay must be 64x scale and as close to my original, brick, sand, dirt, etc. textures, as appropriate, rather than new artwork. Try to use my existing 64x textures as much as possible.
You might consider making a series of small add-on stained clay packs, rather than just one mixture, that variously cover things like coloured bricks, or natural clays, or plaster, etc. so people can choose the sort of thing they think looks best for their world.
This task/brief only covers the stained clay blocks and not any other textures from the main GS pack.
Let me see what they look like before posting a download link. Perhaps make an imgur album to show off the different sets of stained clays.
---------------------------------------------
This message will self-destruct in 10 seconds. Should you accept this mission... [Oops! thought I had my other hat on]
It'll probably be me self-destructing soon!
So to be as clear as I possibly can be, other than the alt stained clays, I don't want any other alts being offered for the main pack until further notice, which is really what I already say in my OP. The stained clay commission/mission is an exclusive task just for you.
Now...I really must get back to that big GS easel. My masterpiece awaits (as if!).
[to my hoard of specially appointed MC structural engineers] "Your services are no longer required!" "BrokenEye has just reminded me we can't put a limit on imagination...especially in Minecraft."
["grumble, mumble...and after all that hard work trying to make things look believable...b****y Inception all over again!"]
Oh man, I wish. Sadly, the Minecraft engine doesn't support Escheresque non-euclidean geometry.
With my 'motion sickness' problem I'm rather glad it doesn't!
In most other respects though, Minecraft does rather a good job of fulfilling that Inception 'need'.
Oooo! I loved everything about Inception - characters, story, visuals, concepts, music - and it's probably one of my 10 most favorite films of all time, certainly my most fave sci-fi film. Goosebumps just thinking about it!
.....GSv.18 - New repeater, comparator and lever Pics
After making a short vid of the above (which can be seen on the previous page) I didn't post any still pics of the new black based repeater, comparator and lever. Here's a few for your perusal to compliment the vid.
It probably wasn't apparent in the video, but the lever handles have little random details like numbers, clips, spots of tape, wire, just blank, etc... for the fun of it, but seriously...kind of like the things an operator might afix to help remember what the lever does!
Incidentally one of the new 'soundscape' jukebox music cylinders features all sorts of electrical sounds. The kind of things you might hear in a large laboratory (Frankenstein style!) or Tesla's workshop! So having a space filled with redstone dust, repeaters, comparators and the like, along with 10 minutes of atmospheric sound (eg. the hum of dynamoes, crackle of static and 'wooeeeooo' of ocilliscope, etc.) should create some tingling down the spine...especially if you manage to engineer a thunder storm with lightning. Just make sure you have your experimental zombie properly strapped down on the table first!
If I were to throw out an idea for them that I think would look good for the pack and would still fit with where the blocks appear in the underwater temples. I would suggest blocks that look like victorian copper steampunk designs that have patinated over.
I hate to say this - but have you tried creating a new thread, instead? It might be easier than trying to fix the original.

Don't censor me!

Haha!
Good point!
