Fortune. One of the most coveted Enchantments of all time. It can increase the drops from Ores, save for the Iron and Gold Ores. So, I think we should fix that with this new idea:
The Raw Metals Mod
The Mod will add two new items: the Raw Iron and Raw Gold. They are dropped from the Iron and Gold Ores, respectively. The original drop rate is 1 per block for both Ores, but you can get more per block with Fortune. Raw Iron and Raw Gold can then be smelted into their Ingots.
Note: If you got the Ore block itself through Silk Touch or prior to the installation of the Mod, the Ore can still be smelted into Ingots.
Not sure if the Fortune formula is correct, and it is cancelled out if Silk Touch is on the Pickaxe (which i believe is standard vanilla on other ores)
awe damn :/ oh well. Was just about finished too. Nice job @TTGImp
Since this is a realism mod idea, I'd like to point out something that is unrealistic in vanilla, but would look awesome if put into action.
Ores are only melted down to get rid of debris when you use some kind of mass drill or collector. In the old days, and during things like the california gold rush, people would use the pickaxes to crack the rock off, revealing gold which they would then carefully chip around until it was loose enough to collect out. What would be interesting is if the ore-mining speed was lengthened, maybe lets say tripled for all ores.
When you mine them, though, what if these small items came out as you mined them? Then here's the advantage for this. If there was a random amount of drops for this, you could gain extra ingots, like lets say 5 ingots from 4 gold ore extra gold. Once the ore is mined, if it doesn't have silk touch, it could just be reverted back to stone, or drop as a stone item. Diamonds could be the reverse if you want, where you have to craft these two big chunks together to cut each other into useable diamonds.
Fortune could either be a formula setting the increased chance of getting gold, or maybe it could mean you could get larger possibilities from one ingot?
