What makes you so sure Forge even exists for that version of Minecraft? http://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/index.php?topic=5.0 seems to indicate build number 1 (i.e. the first ever build of Forge) was for Minecraft 1.1.

well, okay. Now i kind of have to explain why.
I'm trying to re-create the modpack used in direwolf20's first let's play series, and that was on minecraft 1.7.3.
Following the instructions here tells me to install minecraft forge.
okay, so i've managed to find minecraft forge for beta 1.7.3, it was bundled with some zip also containing buildcraft and IT WORKS!
now i'm searching for the original redpower 1.7.1 for mc beta 1.7.3, no luck so far.
if you still have this somewhere please share, hope Eloraam don't mind.
also ConvinientInventory and Treecapitator

Okay, I stand corrected. Following links from that page, I found this SourceForge page with downloads for older versions of Forge (just in case you run into problems with the bundled zip). It doesn't indicate which versions of Forge are for which versions of Minecraft, but since the Minecraft Wiki says Beta 1.7.3 released July 8 2011 and Beta 1.8 released September 15 2011, I would guess that 1.0.0 through 1.0.6 are for Beta 1.7.3.
I have found convenient inventory, but have also noticed some texture bugs in equivalent exchange, probably because i was not using the forge version, so now i have to find that aswell.

Hmm... Equivalent Exchange is a tougher one. I found the web archived version of the forum thread, but the download links fail even when I visit the adfly urls directly (the web archive won't show them to me, since it honors the robots.txt rules)

not there yet, he also installed some other mods along the way like the power regulator addon for ic2, i can't even find any information on that existing.

http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=1143 seems to be an addon with a block called a power regulator, but I'm not sure that's the addon DireWolf20 meant, because the thread is newer than DireWolf20's post, and even if it is, it doesn't help much, because the download link doesn't seem to work.
don't ask me why.

EDIT:
I'm making progress, i found treecapitator. Now i just need ConvenientInventory and i'm done.
