Edit: I have a question for you all. What mod(s) clearly disallow you to repost them. Because half of the other mods I've found on Minecraftsix seem "legal" which is what annoys me even more than how they act.
You want a mod with a clearly stated copyright policy? How about Optifine?
You want a mod with a clearly stated copyright policy? How about Optifine?
I read that and it didn't seem as clear as other things have in the past. Minecraftsix reposted it and linked to optifine.net. That seems almost legal, but seems wrong at the same time. I also don't want people getting mad at me for "attacking" a "good" website that makes their mod/map/texturepack more popular. Even though some of those "good" websites could potentially bundle malware with people's mods and whatnot that they repost. I have a feeling that I've already pissed off a mod author.
He can't allow that, because both of those would clearly violate Mojang's Minecraft licence.
If that's what some sites are doing, then it would even be in Mojang's or Microsoft's interest to bring them down.
Haha, never thought of it that way. But didn't Mojang say that they don't support mods in general? I also didn't think mods had any of Minecraft's code in them. Well, I mean I know they do but don't at the same time.
I found something else out, Check out this thread. The owner of that mod is just doing damage to himself... He even quoted the author of another mod and changed the context of what was said.
Who here thinks Https://www(dot)minecraftore(dot)com is Legal and Legitimate, hm? It seems like a new mod reposting website shows up every day.
Edit: Oh and the spelling, don't get me started. If an adult that was new to mods in general went there instead of here, they'd think mods are a joke... Making it even worse for mod authors. Because lets face it, who's going to download a mod when the post telling about it (or trying to anyway) looks like it was written by a 9 year old. (No offense to all you 9 year olds out there).

This site seems to be an illegal site. With almost every site, I do a simple test. I try and see if they have posted the mod Traincraft. This site has it as a mod that can run on 1.11.2. If you go to the official Traincraft site, it is only released to 1.7.10, therefor this is most likely an illegal website.

This "minecraftore" site is a bit confusing on that score. Some mods are implied in the descriptions to be available for 1.11, but then the download links say "not yet released" for newer versions of Minecraft. On the other hand, the site also has a launcher download, with a description that makes it seem like it might be a cracked launcher.

It would be interesting to see if it were. Because if so, Mojang themselves might want to crack down on them.
I feel I should stress that this "mod reposting" differs from the perfectly legitimate case of "copyleft"/"free" software. In the case of free, copyleft software, the copyleft terms are specifically stated by the absolute original author, and one of the constraints of sharing such software is often that you make clear who that original was. People that repost mods are doing it without any of these conditions being met; they're through-and-through plagiarists
on the concern of the hosts being in Vietnam... that stinks. Hopefully their stance on international law will come to bite them where the sun don't shine.
I'm equipping the banner and installing the plugin. This has gone to far and I want no part of what these plagiarists are offering. No more.
No. Have you considered users for whom the forum is EXTREMELY LAGGY? No you haven't. People can't just browse MC Forum for mods. Also I'm glad you understand minecraftmods.com doesn't steal mods but I still refuse to not download mods from these sites. -10/10.
Something else I feel people need to better understand about getting mods is this: Easier isn't always better. There may be a page of mods that are easy to get to and download, but that doesn't mean they're safe.

If you download it from a location that the author didn't intend, you're not going to get up-to-date versions; you're going to get malicious versions; you're going to get incorrect version information. That doesn't mean you can't use sites for reviews, or such. But seriously, if you get a mod from a site the author doesn't intend, you're doing stuff wrong.
The forum is somewhat laggy, but it's not that severe (and other sites are laggy too...). But that doesn't mean you can't use it. If you don't like using the forum's interface, try instead searching "site:minecraftforum.net (what you want to search)". You can still get mod results that way.

Not that severe?!?! Accessing this site without an AdBlocker or Curse Premium is a death-sentence for ANY computer that is not a high-end Gaming Rig, due to all of the ads and elements on the page taking up a huge amount of the RAM(Around 2GB or more from my testing) and CPU power.

I have adblocker. It still lags like crap.
Also can somebody make a "#SupportModReposts" banner?

Sorry but, Linux can get viruses. Also, by saying that you're happy that these mods are getting reposted, you are also saying that you don't want the authors to get the credit.

Did you forget that it doesn't matter if you have Windows, Linux, Mac, an Andriod Phone or an iPhone, any product that has an OS on it can get Adware, Malware, Virus, Spyware, etc...
Also can somebody make a "#SupportModReposts" banner?
I have a mod, and if you choose to download it off from these sites that I didn't ask for it to be posted on, then you're taking the credit away from me!

Which doesn't mean that a stolen mod you download from one of those sites wouldn't do something like, say, steal your session data (or delete your home folder, which it could do without getting root access just by running something like "r m -rf ~"). Which it could entirely do in java, OS-independently. You're less likely to get something that'd take over your computer, sure, but that doesn't mean downloading stolen content from unofficial sources is a good idea. Just infinitesimally less dangerous. Just because you run Linux doesn't excuse you from standard internet safety protocols.
Simply put, you have no idea of the greater context of the issue, just a few out-of-context pieces.

Note the key word "widespread" there. Also, if Linux doesn't get viruses, why are there 11 antivirus products listed for it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_antivirus_software#Linux ?
