Leave the mod the way it is as in you can eat the worms but as add in that you can only fish if you have worms in your inventory. As soon as you run out of worms you can no longer cast your fishing pole. Maybe add in a little metal can that is crafted from 3 iron nuggets in a v formation. When we would go fishing when I was a kid we used to keep worms in a soup can with some dirt in it or something similar.

I've had the suggestion for fishing, but haven't had time to look into implementing it for a few days. When I heard the suggestion I also had the idea that worms would be required, and thought that making a bait bucket would be cool
The fishing overhaul with the bait and bucket is something minecraft has needed since day 1 and the easy way of obtaining the worms makes it not boring or too difficult.

I'm playing with the code now. The fishing code is somewhat complex, to me at least. Also, I think the Vanilla fishing rod with no worms should still be able to hook mobs, etc. so I will probably have to change it's behaviour as well. I've done some googling and I haven't found any code for custom fishing rods yet. I'll keep looking, and coding. Wish me luck
Use mcp to decompile fishing rod code. Copy it and modify it.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm able to read the Minecraft code in Eclipse with the Forge code I've been able to make a rod that fires a bobber when you right click but it immediately retracts. I'm still working on it. I think I see the issue, in the Minecraft EntityPlayer class there is a property refined "fishEntity" that is specifically a Minecraft EntityFishHook.
Although, even when I have my custom rod extend the Minecraft rod, and call the Minecraft bobber, it still retracts. I'll try to extend Item directly, as the minecraft fishing rod does, and see how that works.
Sounds cool, ima download. Btw, if people keep making mods for 1.7.10 nobody's gonna update to 1.8. There are plenty of mods out there for 1.7.10.

Now that is over and done with I'm sticking to 1.8 I like that version better than 1.7.x because the mods cooperate better and there are far less crashes and bugs in 1.8 than 1.7.x. Yes the mods are slowly updating to 1.8 that is for sure.
I am a 1.8 Minecraft enthusiast. If i give any ideas to you for your mod that you like or even if I just came to say I like this mod, that basically means I would like this mod for 1.8.

I too hope so. I know it takes time to authors to update, but I don't want to wait forever for them to update their mods.
I don't really want to either, but they will update eventually or be recreated from scratch as the case may be. Glad we had a meaningful conversation for once online. I don't have that...often. Anyways, I hope this mod does continue on for the foreseeable future. It is a really interesting twist on gathering materials. I wouldn't have thought about this kind of mod because i don't really eat bugs myself. This is still a neat mod

Curse PremiumI've had the suggestion for fishing, but haven't had time to look into implementing it for a few days. When I heard the suggestion I also had the idea that worms would be required, and thought that making a bait bucket would be cool
