1.1.0 has been approved by Curse. This update does several nice things.
Changed pack loading code. If you are running a Dedicated Server (one that isn't built in to the client) then you install record packs through the mods folder. The vanilla resource pack folder is only used when on the Client version of the game.
Added many new options to the configuration file, making almost every feature of the mod customizable.
Fixed a critical bug with Creeper Code, which prevented many from playing the mod.
Hi, sorry for the delayed response. I had been working on finalizing the 1.1.0 update which is now released. While it's possible to edit existing packs, I always recommend making your own pack, rather than tweaking the existing one. As mentioned previously, documentation for how the pack system works is on it's way, it just takes a lot of time to put together, but I have almost finished it. Right now the As We Descend pack is the only publicly available pack, however I hope to see that changed very soon. With the help of Curse Forge you can upload your packs to their site (provided they follow community guidelines) and we will be able to link it in the main post. It is my hope that we will have a wide verity of publicly available packs for everyone. I also have plans to re-release several of the packs from the More Records mod. I am also considering a new monthly pack which would involve suggestions from the community. Once new packs are available, we will post them under the As We Descend pack on the main post.
Well i don't know how to code...so i guess i have no choice but to wait, or keep hunting for content packs...like that would happen fast.
The My Little Pony pack has now been published, you can find it in the main post. Documentation is still being worked on for the pack system. We are planning to create an in game GUI which will also allow users to create their own packs.

I really like this mod, but I have a suggestion that could make it even better. If it is possible, it would be really cool for there to be an amplified jukebox which could play records over an extended area, maybe even the whole world.

Yes, that is absolutely possible, and is actually planned.
I want to put some 1.6.4 music packs on here so you can upgrade them to 1.7.10 for me since i can't upgrade them myself, but I don't know how to upload mods and stuff here...can you tell me how?
(P.S: The packs I want to upload are not mine, and there is no download location to them, but I want them upgraded to 1.7.10 anyways.)

Instead of making a GUI, can you make like a website that where we can upload the sound tracks, and the website does the hard work for us? Not all of us know how to do this advanced modding stuff...so just make something that does the hard stuff for us.

While it would certainly be possible for me to make a website for the pack creation tool, I am not a web developer, nor do I really have any interest in pursuing web development. This service would also require the team to purchase a web server which is capable of handling uploaded files. There are a bunch of issues related to this, such as the cost, and users uploading illegal/pirated music. This is why we are using a client based application.
This mod is great! I read the thread and it said I could request, so I'm curious if you could do an 8-bit Crypt of the Necrodancer pack. You don't have to do all the music, just the music for the zones. If it is still a bit too much, that's fine. Here's the soundtrack and game if you don't know what it is. Also possibility of controlling jukeboxes with redstone and hoppers? Using a special redstone contraption to detect song start and end?
Edit: Now I'm thinking the jukebox detector would work great with that amplified jukebox idea from Emaps so you don't have to change them manually.
I made a bunch of textures if you want them. It's just an album item for the normal Minecraft records, and a bunch of block textures based on ideas I had. Also an album item and record textures for Crypt of the Necrodancer if you actually want to do that.
Also could you add config options to have records added by other mods be detected by this mod?
I need help creating a custom pack. I have built the pack and when i load it into minecraft it like half loads, i can pull the "records" out of the creative tab, however the texture is broken, i get a square with two purple and two pink boxes, and the songs wont play in the juke box.

This would be because your resource files are not in the correct location or have not been loaded properly. You will have to enable the resource pack in your resource packs folder for resources (textures, sounds, item names) to load.
Wheeee! Glad i can use this mod again! Had some 300 records set up on my 1.6.4 server, and it worked quite well!
Only thing missing was a multi-disk record player or something... but there's another MC mod for 1.7.10 that does that, I'm going to test compatibility sometime in the next few days.
I would LOVE to make my own pack.
Downloaded one of the packs from here, looks a little complicated to create..
I definitely hope you make some kind of in-game GUI or online guide or website helper, soemthing like that
Well fancy that, while I appreciate the on-the-fly customizability of Better Records, this is just what I wanted: a way to integrate extra records alongside Minecraft's own.
Now I just need to learn how to make them resource packs...
If you hadn't said that you already were making something, I'd try to whip up a GUI tool in python, for my own personal use if nothing else.

I completely agree, we do need more documentation for this mod, and a simple tool for making packs would be very beneficial. We were once working on both of these things, however my partner on this mod has quit Minecraft Modding, and as a result things are kind of in limbo. He was the one who was making the Gui. I actually picked up Python yesterday, and am using it to run a small IRC bot I wrote from scratch. It may be worth looking into creating a GUI using it.

Sad to hear you modding partner left the building.. But maybe he comes back
That IRC thing, I for sure don't know what it is. All I know is this mod already has a lot of cool features, and if you could make (in the simplest way possible) a way for us to create a custom pack, I would be happy!

Python is a good time, think I'm going to use this as an excuse to do some...
We'll see if anything useful comes out, then I'll post to github and link if it does.

Began playing during Alpha 1.2.6.

I actually had another idea as well, a portable record player which would play music anywhere, but only for the player with it in their inventory.
