Couldn't we just shift+click for the function to display the block/item on top or bottom of the chest?

Does this mod work with Inventory Tweaks?
If it does.... then that first slot might change between different things.

I came here hoping to see something like a mod that JUST has smaller storage options. Like bits of the furniture mods, without all the excess furniture. Maybe one that holds a dozen items, one that holds eighteen, and so forth.

The other way around doesn't interest me so much, although if it were part of a progression from tiny boxes to larger ones, I'd be interested. Especially if the colors went from violet (tiny) and indigo (small) up through to orange (huge) and red (gargantuan).

Sounds like you're looking for something like Iron Chests or JABBA.

JABBA sounds interesting, but isn't up to 1.7.10, has a pretty poor thread design (making it hard to figure out what it actually does), no screenshots (and I strongly dislike resorting to videos because the mod author didn't do their job of putting up screenshots), some additional oddities (dollies are interesting, ore/dust changes are odd... which mod is this designed to work with, Metallurgy or something else?)... doesn't sound like something I'd use.

Thank you for the recommendations; those are two mods I had not yet run across, and I might actually grab textures from the Iron Chests mod for my chests because, as I said, they do look awesome.

Still want a mod that makes the starting chests tiny and requires you to start adding chests together or something to make storage options with more storage, until you get to regular chest size, then bigger. Other than that, thanks for the updated links! It's kind of odd sometimes how search engines bring up outdated threads due to popularity, and a person searching might never know a newer thread existed. That's why I made sure Pam made links to her newer thread once she moved

Have come across BetterStorage before, and keep coming back to it now and again, sitting on the fence about whether or not to make use of it. Sometimes it seems just too complex for my desires, other times it's got features that I really want to use, and all the time I worry about it breaking my save files or messing up inventory of chests and stuff... but anyway, since I'm currently working out a mod pack for my niece and nephews, who like more complex stuff, I think I'm finally going to bite the bullet and give it a try. Thanks for reminding me about it.

I have no idea what MCF actually is, but that appears to be the actual page I have been browsing trying to figure out which mods are up to at 1.7.10 - I found it via search engine. Definitely looking through here, but it's a huge amount of data to parse. My nephew got horribly bored with it before we'd reached the F's.

MCF is just a modlist, featuring 90% of mods updated to 1.7.10, leaving out mods that are completely hidden from the internet, small mods, and illeagal mods
