Hookshots and Whips only work at extremely close range for me, as well. But I'm working with a very very heavily modded minecraft, so I didn't think to test it further than "I must have broken something" xD
Also I can't seem to find the key to activate the medallions once I have them... unless I'm doing something wrong.
Key to activate the medallions? I don't recall there being a key - assuming you're talking about e.g. the Ether Medallion, you should just be able to use it provided you have enough magic. I'm pretty sure the manual has all the details in one section or another.
Re: the hookshot - I'll admit I haven't tested 1.8.9 very thoroughly, but I did try the hookshot out a little bit and it seemed to work fine. I'll take another look at it when I get back to modding.

For anyone using this with M&B, enable "let items block" in the MB config file to restore ZSS item functionality.
I've tried everything I could think of, from holding right click to smashing it into the mobs face and every button from a-z
And yeah, I guess I should mention it's 1.8.9
I'll start a new world and see where the conflict is, if I don't post about it again it's on my side ^-^
Btw: This is all being done on a server
Edit: Conflict for both items is Mine & Blade.
Without MB both items work perfectly as intended. With it, the hookshot/whip don't fire and the medallion doesn't activate, regardless of where they're held.
Edit2: Using MB 1.0.10.2
AND THE FINAL EDIT AND FIX IS FOUND!

Re: M&B item blocking - if you are on a server, you will have to get the server to enable that setting as well as your client config. For some reason they decided it would be a good idea to remove sword blocking via their mod in 1.8.x because Minecraft didn't have it in 1.9.x... it wasn't until I mentioned to them that that broke tons of other mods' functionality that they added that config option.
Quick question. Are you moving away from BG2 compatibility? If so, could you re-add the ability to catch arrows with the Deku Shield?
I wouldn't say I'm moving away from it so much as BG2 just doesn't have any versions available for 1.9 or higher. Of course, neither does ZSS, so we'll see when we get there.
The sword beam does take magic. Or do you mean you want an option for it to not require magic? It required magic in the games that I'm familiar with that had it.
Re: losing the extended magic meter - that might merely be an issue of client-side syncing? If so, the magic meter would have the correct size after quitting to the main menu and reloading. I used Minecraft's attribute system so I assumed that the attribute would persist as needed... I'll add it to the list of things to look at.

not require magic. Link to the Past (SNES zelda) it didn't require magic.
its a ui bug. reloggin fixes it.
What Minecraft does when moving the player to another world is basically remove the Player Entity from one world and create a new one at the other. If you don't save and reload the attributes while this is happening, this may mean that you lose some of the non-Vanilla ones?
@Kye Does this happen when you go to the Nether using normal Vanilla means as well? Because that dimension change should be safe.

You mention in the FAQ that you are currently working on more bosses. Those wouldn't happen to be Ganon/Ganondorf or Majora would they? Or is that a surprise we don't get to know of yet?
First of all, thank you for reading the FAQ! Seriously, that's awesome.
Second of all, sorry. I should have worded that as "I have several ideas for bosses that I plan on working on when I get a chance," as even at the time I wrote the FAQ I wasn't actually actively working on any new bosses.
For right now, I have so little free time that it isn't even worth trying to work on this mod. However, I do still plan on getting back to it once my life schedule gives me opportunity to do so!
Huh, you're probably right, but I haven't played that either!
I'm having problems getting the hookshots to work for v.1.8.9. can someone help

Is there any way you'd give us a config option for the sword beam to take magic? I don't remember it doing that.
also, with the warp drive mod (http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2510855-1-6-4-1-7-10-warpdrive-custom-ships-laser-cannons), I will lose the extended magic meter when I warp between worlds. IDK if it is something you need to look into or if it is on their end. I've also posted this interaction there.

Hm, I must have misremembered that... funny how fuzzy things get as you age.
Thanks for following up on that - it will make fixing the bug easier now that I know exactly what it is.
Huh. It's back in production? Haven't been on the forums in months. xD
Yep. Slowly but surely.
it does this as well with the nether portal.
It'll be an easy fix, then - just another 8 bytes or so to send in the packet to the client when changing dimensions.
so how goes the progress? any updates?
Haven't worked on it since getting the puppy :\
ahh okis. take your time :3
