Whenever I try opening up the RotaryCraft handbook my game crashes. It only happens when I am on a multiplayer server. If I run a single player map it runs fine. I play under linux and I've tried OpenJDK 7 as well as official Java 7 and 8 and still always crashes when opening hte RotaryCraft handbook. It seems the ReactorCraft handbook will crash too but only intermittently. Sometimes if I open the ReactorCraft handbook first and then go to the RotaryCraft handbook it will not crash. I also tried running under Windows 8.1 and i get the same crash. Again multiplayer only. Also my friend on the same server has no problems whatsoever using the handbook.

I see that in the latest changelog, heat gen in HTGRs is reduced 50%. I built a pebble bed starting in V3c and just fired it up today in V3d. I noticed that its total power output was underwhelming; in fact, it doesn't always spin the turbine, and its average output seems to be the power output of about 1 AC electric engine, give or take 50% (not enough to bother with either way). The specs: 2 cores, 1 co2 exch, 1 heat exch, 1 boiler, insulated by microblocks, 2-meter turbine; fairly compact build. I measured average power output using 2 industrial coils that swap roles on a timer and watching their total charges steadily drop, rather than build nearly-out-of-control as I had expected.
I concede I could be doing it wrong. If I am making a mistake that is costing me something like 75% of my potential power here, just tell me if I am, not specifically what I'm doing wrong (spoilers!). Important assumption that is an exception to my previous statement: More Turbines does not always equal more power, right? I only have a 2-meter long turbine at the moment; it seems like an important mechanic would be to need turbines subject to lower startup inertia at lower steam-outputs. Was I correct?
Also, the total amount of material you get back from a broken turbine seems absurdly low (I would expect to replace 25% of the material, not ≈75%).
Try using Forge 1232 or higher. That may fix your problem.
Just tried using 1272 and same issue. I just finished reinstalling everything again from scratch and it still crashes. My friend who is using the exact same mods folder as me on the same server has 0 issues.
Small Turbines are pathetically inefficient. It's never worth not using max size. I won't say any more than that.
If true, this seems worth mentioning in the handbook; like I said earlier, I presumed max size only for large steam-producers. Also, lube. The handbook doesn't even imply that the turbines need more than clearance, proper placement, and steam (took me an hour to figure out they need lube; kept troubleshooting everything else). I saw that lube consumption gets pretty high (probably per meter of turbine), but that is trivial compared to trading away significant fractions of your power for savings on steel and lube.
Just tried using 1272 and same issue. I just finished reinstalling everything again from scratch and it still crashes. My friend who is using the exact same mods folder as me on the same server has 0 issues.

I give up on this one, hopefully someone can help with the chain drive. I've got two drives, aligned identically. I have a full stack of chain and have tried distances as low as 20m apart, and as high as 64m apart. They are in a top/bottom stack to attach to a windmill I have. I right-click the bottom chain drive with the stack of chains, the right click the top, and tried the other way around, and I cannot get them to connect. I tried with belts just for giggles, and still no luck. Is it a bug, or am I just not doing this right?

The "additional data present" tag is intentional and indicative of the mechanism working. Ensure that the two belts are within range, have a clear line of sight, and are in the same plane.
The two chain drives are on the same X plane with a 5m gap between them. I tried linking with a stack of 5 chains, 7 chains, and a full stack of 64, the stack says Additional Data Present each time, but no chains are consumed. I'm not sure whether there should be a visible chain between the two, so I set a dynamometer at the far end just to see. I tried linking with the chain drive powered by an industrial coil, both with the coil running and with it stopped. The powered chain drive spins as expected, and the far end does not spin. The drives are set up properly and I assume I am linking the chains properly. Is there anything you know of where I can start looking for possible problems here? I've heard of weird things cropping up with NEI Addons, but I haven't started removing mods yet as a troubleshooting technique because it would be an extremely time consuming task, if there are other possibilities still.
I don't understand why. "Startup inertia" is thoughtfully derived background knowledge, not "5-meters is the only way to go" or "biggest is always best."
Furthermore, from an analyst learning a system, it made sense to me that this would be a progression step, not an all or nothing gate.

Another bug, it seems the buildcraft API in the DragonAPI.jar is outdated again. There is a crash when trying to use a laser to power something, like an assembly table. Deleting the buildcraft API folder in the DragonAPI.jar fixes it. This was tested with just Rotarycraft v3d, DragonAPI v3d, and Buildcraft 6.2.6.

I noticed many blocks (craftable) in NEI but not in the Reactorcraft handbook. Turbine housing, turbine flywheel, flywheel housing... are these deprecated if not given an article in the handbook?

This is a known issue with Thaumcraft warp effects, a fix I found, wait for the warp effect to end then relog and it should be normal, or restart your client which seems to work better

I used the wrong name, I meant the item casting stand. Also to clarify whether I need to get more info fragments, I have about 12 blank fragments waiting for me to progress but I'm not sure how as most of what I make either doesn't work or will require item casting stands which I don't have the fragment for. Unless the multiblock structures like the casting room or casting temple cannot have crystalline blocks in the empty spaces in the schematic. I am currently using the casting temple I believe, the one with the redstone and gold blocks

If Minecraft were real, you'd be a zombie right now.
So I've upgraded to V3 and I'm still having this problem. I haven't changed anything in the rotarycraft config file. One thing that is happening, though, is when I right click both chain drives with the stack of chain, it gets an "Additional Data Present" label under the name.

The casting table is a standard vanilla recipe.
This is expected "background knowledge".
There is an easy way for him to fix it. Tell him to make the item class implement "canHarvestBlock" and return true for iron ore blocks.
Tinker's picks do drop the machines, and hammers not doing so is intentional. Smashing a machine with a hammer will not yield a machine but scrap metal.
The "additional data present" tag is intentional and indicative of the mechanism working. Ensure that the two belts are within range, have a clear line of sight, and are in the same plane.
Read the log. OpenComputers is crashing.
The two chain drives are on the same X plane with a 5m gap between them. I tried linking with a stack of 5 chains, 7 chains, and a full stack of 64, the stack says Additional Data Present each time, but no chains are consumed. I'm not sure whether there should be a visible chain between the two, so I set a dynamometer at the far end just to see. I tried linking with the chain drive powered by an industrial coil, both with the coil running and with it stopped. The powered chain drive spins as expected, and the far end does not spin. The drives are set up properly and I assume I am linking the chains properly. Is there anything you know of where I can start looking for possible problems here? I've heard of weird things cropping up with NEI Addons, but I haven't started removing mods yet as a troubleshooting technique because it would be an extremely time consuming task, if there are other possibilities still.
I don't understand why. "Startup inertia" is thoughtfully derived background knowledge, not "5-meters is the only way to go" or "biggest is always best."
Furthermore, from an analyst learning a system, it made sense to me that this would be a progression step, not an all or nothing gate.

If you are getting into ReactorCraft, it is expected that you know that turbines extract energy from steam, and that more stages will thus mean more energy extraction.

Another bug, it seems the buildcraft API in the DragonAPI.jar is outdated again. There is a crash when trying to use a laser to power something, like an assembly table. Deleting the buildcraft API folder in the DragonAPI.jar fixes it. This was tested with just Rotarycraft v3d, DragonAPI v3d, and Buildcraft 6.2.6.
Ok, so I was just thinking too realistically. It can be difficult to know where to draw the line.
I noticed many blocks (craftable) in NEI but not in the Reactorcraft handbook. Turbine housing, turbine flywheel, flywheel housing... are these deprecated if not given an article in the handbook?

Is there any options to troubleshoot the problem further? Additional debug logging or something?
This is a known issue with Thaumcraft warp effects, a fix I found, wait for the warp effect to end then relog and it should be normal, or restart your client which seems to work better

Also to clarify whether I need to get more info fragments, I have about 12 blank fragments waiting for me to progress but I'm not sure how as most of what I make either doesn't work or will require item casting stands which I don't have the fragment for. Unless the multiblock structures like the casting room or casting temple cannot have crystalline blocks in the empty spaces in the schematic. I am currently using the casting temple I believe, the one with the redstone and gold blocks
