Okay, had a tinker about, very cool, looking forward to the implementation of the other features (no pressure btw!)
Had a play with the full version on my Daughters 1.7.10 profile too, did wonder about the possibility of making the collapsible block able to be (shift) placed flat on vertical surfaces?
The thinking behind the idea was that if you could place it as such and alter the profile of the side, rather than the top or the bottom, then there would be even more scope for broad varied radius arch profiles etc.
That may be a bit of a pants explanation, so took the liberty of making a 3rd rate illustration to show what i meant:
Terrible i know, but you can see the blue bits are normal blocks, the green parts are collapsible blocks shaped from below and the red parts are the bit i was wondering about. Placed flat against the vertical surface rendering the side as the part to be manipulated with the hammer.
Apologies for being a pain, recently tried fooling about to get some OBJ models into MC so appreciate the efforts you have gone to in making such a mod, hope not to cause any offence with this brazen suggestion
P.S. If this is already possible and i'm more of a moron than i thought, please let me know how to do it (not very bright! lol)
Why did you skip 1.8.9?!?!?! This is one of the best mods ever so I really want it! Could you please make it for 1.8.9?
Several modders skiped version 1.8.X because their rendering system is broken and that would give them a lot of headaches for they to update yours mods to 1.8.X.
@SpikeVanHellsing May be wrong here, but think the idea i was talking about a couple of posts above might have the same effect as what you are suggesting. A sideways placeable collapsible block so you could alter the sideways dimensions rather than top or bottom.
If you could also place it facing different directions on a vertical surface as you can when placing the currently implemented collapsible block on a horizontal surface, the versatility offered would be mind boggling!
I'm not sure the placement direction would matter too much though, as you could simply alter the desired quadrants with the hammer and the effect would still have the same result.
Sorry to Mineshopper, hate to sound so pushy, but i tried modding and so far it's hopeless! If you could make this happen it would be awesome!

For 1.10.2 the blocks will all have a single render orientation. In the future, I plan to have proper render rotation support to achieve the look you want. More than likely on release much of the render code will be as-is from 1.7.10, but it can be improved later.

Understandable that you wish to get things running smoothly as they stand.
Very much appreciate your taking the time to consider my suggestion and reply accordingly, many thanks.
I was so excited to see a 1.10.2 version of the mod, though I think I must be doing something wrong - when I try to craft a carpenter's block, I can't seem to make them. Dunno if the recipe changed or I'm just missing something! Could also be one of my other mods interfering.
Just my luck! Ah well, I'm still so glad that you're pushing forward and updating the mod!
Well.. I created a branch for 1.10.2, so people can port things and help in general if they're capable. I haven't had time lately to put any additional work into it. Once I find time, I'm going to work on adding support for complex cuboid-based blocks. Then basic rotation is required for hinged blocks like doors. That's going from most time-consuming to least.
Wish i could help, got a custom model of the holy hand grenade from Monty Python running in Eclipse, but registering it as a usable entity is beyond me lol.
There is blindly following tutorials (me) and there is knowing what you are doing... You are definitely in the latter category!
First off: I really, really enjoy your mod! Makes building in minecraft way more fun.
But sadly I encounter a problem with Carpenters Blocks since yesterday. It's the usual "I haven't changed anything, but it's not working the way it did"-thing. I'm playing MC 1.7.10 and everything worked fine until yesterday.
I can not place a carpenter block next to another once I made it into a slab with the hammer.
For example: I want to build a wall made of vertical slabs. So I place the first carpenter block, hit it with the hammer to transform it into a vertical slab. Now I want to place the next block ontop of it, therefore I right click the top of the vertical slab - but nothing happens. No block placed on top. Same when I want to put it left or right to the first placed block. If I click the ground next to the slab instead, the second carpenter block is set automaticlly as vertical slab. It also works to set a "vanilla block" next to the slab by right clicking it.
As long as the first block is a normal block, I can place another carpenter block by right clicking the first. Hammering them both to slabs afterwards is working too.
What I tried to solve the problem: I completely deleted the MC folder from roaming and installed it again. Next is Forge (recommended for 1.7.10), next optifine, then put Carpenters Blocks into the mods folder. The mods blocks all are there, but the bug is aswell.
Not much I tried, but I can't think of anything that could solve the problem, if not a fresh installation...
Hope you can help me, building is really annoying at the moment...
Thanks!
The developer is currently focused on 1.10.X & 1.11.X Update so it may take a while to fix this! and here is not the Correct Location to report bug.
Another user has already implemented a fix for placing blocks against the slabs, I just haven't gotten around to testing it yet. Once I do, I will push out a new build.
Sweet! Just noticed that an alpha was released. Awesome.
This mod doesn't add any new ores or anything like that to the game, right? So once it's stable I can add it to my server and client and start to use it no problem?

So in theory I could add recipes for the experimental build through craft tweaker, right? Would this be inadvisable? Is there potential for breaking my survival world as I get future updates to the mod?

I am just curious, would it be possible to add a vertical slab version of a slop into the 1.7.10 mod?
Come check out my pack and tell me what you think.

The preview build has no recipes, sorry!
Oh, then at least it's not an incompatibility issue! Lol. Thanks for letting me know!
Great to see this mod isn't dead yet. Keep up the awesome work. Gonna love this when it is out.
I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

Thank you for this outstanding mod! I very much appreciate your efforts updating this for 1.10.2.
I have been holding off on playing my 1.10.2 single player "vanilla enhancement" pack until this is was updated.
Again thank you very much for your work!

Great work on the alpha release, super excited for having the rest of the mod and for easier updates!
