Wonderful program. Easy to follow directions for installing and using. Even for newbs. (Except I haven't figured out how to see caves yet.)
Question- my 7yr old and I have been playing 1.8 Minecraft for a few weeks. I just installed Forge and JourneyMap tonight. I changed the profile to 1.7.10. However when I start our world, all our 'stuff' is gone in survival mode. Nothing is left in our chests or in our equipment list. Fences are gone too.
So I changed the profile back to 1.8 and I also tried Latest Edition. Again, all our stuff we have collected is gone. (Fences are there though.)
Any way to remedy this? (If not, we just get to start over. I just have to convince a 7yr old of that...)
Thanks!
Congrats on your first post!
As the dad of a 7-year-old myself, I hate to tell you this, but ... your stuff is gone. As are all the ores and various new things put out in 1.8, so all the generated chunks you have are going to be a mess. It's rare that you can change to an older version of Minecraft and not completely wreck a world, as you've discovered. As a rule, worlds are forward-compatable, but never backward-compatable.
To see caves in the full-screen map, have the Caves button enabled and then go underground. Bring torches and you'll see the caves map around you as you explore and light them up.
To see caves automatically in the MiniMap, be sure the Show Caves option is checked. The next time you go underground (or under a roof), you'll get the cave view automatically.
Guess it is time to try a new seed and see what we come up with this time! Mega-tiaga hills were fun, but I'm sure the next random world will be equally as fun. And this time we'll have a map...
are there still plans for adding the option to categorize waypoints into different directories? for example being able to create a directory for waypoints that would contain all monster spawners, another directory for waypoints for villages, another directory for waypoints for things such as your spawn, base, portals and such etcetcetc along with the option to delete whole directories including waypoints, or hide all waypoints in a directory or recolor all waypoints in a directory?

Yep, I have a list of waypoint-related stuff that's going into 5.1
I'm not sure this is Journeymap's doing, but I've got a weird alignment issue on my Controls screen in the main Options menu. It's sort of like the line that identifies Journeymap's Fullscreen map is too much text and has forced everything else that's left aligned off the left side of the screen. It's possibly one of the other mods I updated recently, but on the off chance it's that (+CTRL to toggle MiniMap) tacked at the end of the line, I figured I would check here To see if anyone else has the same issue.

In case of the GFW(Great Fire Wall of China) I have to use VPN to use the Web Map normally, otherwise the browser will show me nothing just filled with grey color. However, I can use the Web Google Map normally without the VPN. I guess it;s because everytime I open the web map the Mod contacts the abroad(out of China) address of the Google Map Engine and this action is stopped by the GFW. I guess directly adding the Google Map Engine in the Mod files may be able to solve this problem, How about you?
Everytime I enter the first world after launching the MineCraft 1.7.10 there always be a significant lag before I can play it normally. I don't know how to change the settings in order to decrease the lag time. When I play the game with just a little mods and without the HD textures the loading speed of the first world can be so fast that I can almost ignore the lag time. Could you tell me how to solve this problem
I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.

Ouch! As techbrew said, that world is toast -- sometimes you can go back a minor version and only lose the "new stuff", but major versions usually involve bigger changes, and 1.8 involved HUGE changes. Looking forward, there are a couple of things you can do to help avoid world loss:
(Note: I'm on Linux, so I'm talking about directories. If you're on Windows, "folders" are the same thing. Also, you're probably using backward slashes in your pathnames, instead of forward slashes.)
1) Backups! Every so often, copy or archive your world save folder into a backup directory, with the date in the name. I made a folder "Backups" in my minecraft game directory (you could also put it in the profile directory, see below), and I occasionally use "zip" (you will have some version of that available, and probably other archive programs) to make a backup archive there, named such as "Worldname 2014-11-04.zip". If something goes badly wrong, you can rename the broken directory ("WorldName.broken 2014-11-04") and unpack the latest backup into its place, or in some cases, do the same to individual files or directories (such as the journeyMap directory and config/journeymap_ModInfo.cfg, if your problem is just with the waypoints). Especially, make a new backup after any major progress, and before changing your mods or MC version (especially downgrading or removing a mod, much less MC itself).
2) Profiles: Make a new profile for each mod or game configuration you use, and put each profile in a different subdirectory. (I also made a Profiles directory, with all my profiles inside it.) For example, I have one for my usual games with my mods and Hard mode, and another for my friend with no mods, and Peaceful mode. As it happens, both are running the same MC version (17.10), but they don't have to be. If you want to try and move a saved game to a different profile (especially removing a mod), copy (not move) the save directory into the save/ under the profile directory. (If you're moving an existing profile to a new directory, copy both the save and the configuration files.) New worlds will automatically be created there. This keeps you from accidentally opening a world in an incompatible profile. such as opening a Thaumcraft world in a vanilla profile. (Which would destroy all Thaumcraft-specific items, and maybe do worse damage).
