@FlowerChild The instalation instructions in the readme.txt don't work for me. I did everything exactly as written, and it always reverted the code in the .jar back to 1.5.2. I did find different instructions that use MCPatcher and works every time for me. http://www.sargunster.com/btwforum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8506 Is the readme.txt outdated, or did I make a mistake somewhere?

Mojang's newest launcher requires some additional steps to get the mod working. I believe it was discussed over here:
I've tried installing this mod over and over again, but it never seems to work, I always just wind up with vanilla 1.5.2. I've followed the instructions carefully including editing the .json file, but no joy. Is there any chance there's an automatic installer available, or one in the works maybe?

I did that stuff, which is what I meant by editing the file. Unless there's a different answer your referring to in the other 2015 pages of this thread.

Don't know then man. You might want to look at the rest of what follows in that thread I linked to try and figure out what went wrong, but otherwise, I've got no additional info for you. Chances are you missed something in editing that file, like the comma a couple of users refer to there.

Editing the .JSON can be finicky at best. Try giving it a few attempts from scratch as any subtle mistakes are nearly impossible to find (it also takes me several attempts).
Using software like Notepad++ can help as it retains the .JSON formatting making it a lot easier to read.

Because it's not 'outdated' - it's just been for version 1.5.2 for a long time, as this is a total conversion mod and updating to 1.6.4 or above wouldn't achieve anything.
I had to run the mcpatcher again and then re-edit the .json file, but it's finally working. I haven't gotten myself killed yet, but it won't take long.
As for why this thread is still active, the mod's just that good. The most similar mod I can think of is maybe Terrafirmacraft, but this is better.
No, just that the game is good as it is in 1.5.2. If FC updated, he would most likely end up removing all of Mojang's new stuff as it doesn't suit BTW. Although it would be possible, there is literally just no point.
He's probably updated the mod as many as a hundred of times over the past 5 years or so - he's got other stuff to do now, I imagine. BTW isn't his whole life, and he has stated the mod is effectively a finished project. You may notice that he still comments here once in a while, however.
Well does he even update or add new additions to this current version of minecraft, or does he no longer add new features?
I have seen a rework of this mod on curse "better with mods"
Someone has ported it to 1.10.2 and it is a beta project. the wind and watermill work and stuff
But it is not a *complete feature like better than wolves

Many attempts have been made in the past, none have succeeded. They always failed and end up as abandonned projects with a barely functioning mills & mecha power with no real utility whatsoever, and then nobody cares because if you're looking for aesthetic stuff dedicated mods are better. So in the end, they just miss the whole point of BTW and don't gain momentum.
This one looks closed source with erratic/non-existent roadmap, I don't think it'll go very far.
It's not a phenomenon specific to BTW by the way, it's very common and that's why you don't see "remakes" very often.
----
I don't think FC would (or even should) announce some kind of "it's over" message, it would not make sense for a mod distributed freely over the Internet. That kind of statement usually implies end of support and updates, which is perfectly understandable in the industry where you close the funding but here there's really no point. I don't see why we should care anyway.

Yeah, I aint gunna lie, in the past years I have seen many recreations and junk ups of this project.
(I started playing back around 1.4 before xbox live had co op play and were substantiated with a mojang mod)
Wasn't til I read your post I recalled how many attempts there actually where of remaking this lovely mod.
(good bye jebs universal rf idea with crying obsidian and iron bars as lightning rods)
lol... got windmills yo.
Is there a way to disable hardcore spawn? I really dislike it. I've tried to edit the BTVconfig with the "fcEnableHardcoreSpawn=0" line but it doesn't work after trying to place it in the .minecraft folder. Help

FlowerChild, anywhere specific you might be posting other projects you are working on by chance?

Two posts above yours provides the answer.

Yes, though I think the mod is more or less 'finished' now.

Nope.
You could play on hardcore mode.
