Which of my packs did you check? I have two. Sanity has Optifine-based animations (look at the XP, health, and hunger bars), while Mint Flavor is a lot more bare-bones and does not.
And the question about Optifine versions still stands. It'll be easier to track down the problem if we know what versions of Minecraft, Optifine, and even Java you're running. Help us to help you.
Also, if you don't see the animated GUI elements in Sanity then would you mind posting your session log for the game where you tried it? (Either on Pastebin and linked here, or at least within spoiler tags to make it easy to read, please.) Being able to see what's happening and if it's throwing any errors might help too.

So I downloaded Sanity and looked inside to compare the animation properties with the ones on the old packs I got, and found a simple problem..
The animation .properties files of my old packs have this line:
to=/textures/....
instead of this line:
to=textures/....
Just a simple forward slash symbol! So I got them working now.. thanks!

I've been trying to work with the CEM stuff and I was wondering if it was possible to have randomized models. Is there a way to, say, have a skeleton that will have a chance of having 2 or more different models (not textures)?
I had an idea for a render distance setting: dynamic. It detect's the server's render distance and adjustes is, some servers may even have render distances change in different areas and I dont think the fog adjustes
I was delaying the bugfix as I wanted to implement it properly, not as a hack. Changing the render distance via settings.txt is not the correct way to do it. It would be much better if the game itself can detect what is the max. possible render distance based on available RAM for example.
Has someone checked what render distance (over 32) needs how much memory?
I'm fine with the hack! Hack away! I want to see my tower from my castle!

I know you're very busy and have all sorts of aspects of OptiFine that you're working on, but I really would love to set my render distance to 64. Any mid-range modern computer can handle a render distance of greater than 32 now. A brand new lower-mid-range budget system even can.
With OptiFine, this is one area where the soon-to-be-titled "Java Edition" of Minecraft can really shine. After an update or two, it's going to get a lot harder to claim superiority for Java Edition over what's now Windows 10 Edition.

Odd, I've been trying to use Alternate item textures, but it hasn't been working for some reason in any of the released versions of optifine for 1.12.
I use Alternate item texture for my server. The Textures are supposed to change when you enchant a certain item with a certain enchantment, but it just hasn't been working. It has worked in the past on optifine 1.10 though.

I looked at everything here https://github.com/sp614x/optifine/tree/master/OptiFineDoc/doc and not sure what is wrong. Is it a bug? I can't seem to replace the model part for armor.. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with my code:

Without knowing your hardware its hard to guess , but try turning on multicore in Optifine menu
