I would really like to know how to get this working with Forge.
I have done many searches in hopes to find a way to edit the Version .json file to get Optifine B5 and Forge 1281 to play together...
no avail...
You would just put in in your mods folder and load it with Forge like any other mod. Thats how the 1.7 versions work (And it doubles as an installer)
I've 16gb of RAM and these are my JVM arguements: -Xmx8G -Xms4G -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128m
I was running Java 7 update 72 but java also wanted to install java 8 update 25 or some crap so I tried that for th eheck of it, but like you said, with both it wouldn't run. uninstalled both, got Java 7 update 80 and the JKD for the heck it it, per the OP. Yes, it's 64 bit as it was before. Video drivers are what is recommended for Optifine.
Please, help me keep digging, lol. I'm quite computer savy and I could never get minecraft to run smooth with 40+ mods... Not with 2 different PCs nor a gaming that I've been through over the past 6 years and through many versions, I think all the way back to 1.0.
Java 8 is now the recommended version of Java and has sped the game up for many people considerably. Mojang prefers for people to use Java 8 and if you use their new fancy installer (https://minecraft.net/download) you don't even need to have Java downloaded as a program, it downloads it's own to use. Why use an outdated version when there is a newer stable version that fits all of your needs like the older one, but better. So short story short, I recommend Java 8 Or even better and easier, just using the new installer (It still uses %appdata% > .minecraft so all of you're stuff carries over )
@BigGrayGolem, actually your statement about adding more RAM is not true... Or at least.. because of cleanup and garbage collection in java, minecraft normally actually runs smoother with just enough RAM, not bulks more... But I agree that resourcepacks actually do require more so should at least adjust to that.
I'm not going to rehash this argument again, other than to say that I ran extensive testing and posted the results, including much earlier in this thread. NO ONE has ever posted any testing results on the "garbage collection" theory or any other "use less RAM theory." And they almost always come with caveats and escape clauses like "resourcepacks do require more," etc. So far, it is nice-sounding theory that isn't supported by any actual data. You are free to do the research and post the results, however.
@Weeio, yes, your problem is that you are using Java 7. I had similar problems with that version. You will have to totally uninstall Java, then install ONLY Java 8 64 bit. I bet that will fix your problems. I would also recommend dropping your minimum RAM to more like 500K, and leaving the max RAM there. Although in my testing, I found that anything much over 4 GB of RAM allocated flatlined the performance, but it can't do any harm unless you intend on editing HD video while you are playing MC and launching a space shuttle.

I'm running a very humble laptop, with i3 and no dedicatet grafic card, optifine is the only thing that allows me to play 1.8 vanilla minecraft, now, even all the good things there are still things that cause my fps to drop to the floor, some of theese i can understand like light updates and such, but, the one i cannot get is the crops planted droping my fps the the floor BADLY, i have a 36x36 area planted with potaoes, and i cant even go near that place, theres no redstone going on is just a big circle full of potato crops, and the fps drops from 40-60 to 5-6, have you looked into it, you need more info?

and as I said, I did that already, it doesn't see it at all.... No errors, just doesn't see it or it's options. The only thing I didn't do was try it with JUST Forge and no other mods... which I will do now.

I uninstalled all java. I did try it with just 8 update 25 last night after I uninstalled 7u80 but I figured out my Chrome version was 32-bit so it kept trying to download 32-bit java. I upgraded to 64-bit chrome so now I get the 64-bit version of java when I update to latest. However, 64-bit 8u25 made things far worse. I logged in and couldn't BARELY move, it was ridiculous.
From the OP... I'm not sure if he's too lazy to update it or if he still recommends this version (I sure wish modders would update their darn posts an KEEP them updated!)
Quote from sp614xTips and tricks:1. Download the latest Java 7 builds from here: http://download.java.net/jdk7/. Minecraft should run much smoother with less lag spikes. It really helps.
So I just went back to java-64bit and the latest they gave me was 7u71 (not sure why not 72 like I had before?) and I can play again, but again just 20-30 FPS.
Any other ideas? Try latest catalyst/drivers instead of that recommended in the OP here? I'm on Catalyst 14.9 which gives me driver 14.3.

Do you think you will keep the fps chart (Not the pie graph but the other one) in 1.8.2? Do you think it will interfere with the vanilla chart? (By pressing F3+Alt)
SO. After research I see optifine should go up to 128 (or something like that) render distance? Why cant I / how do I get that to work (I can only go up to 32)

Could you show me where you saw this? I'm generally curious... I've NEVER heard of this and feel like you must be mistaken.

Confusing block distance with chunk distance I think
Could you make it compatible with glsl shaders mod?
This is compatible with GLSL shaders, & recommended too. Unless you're talking about the alpha 1.8 version, and thats because, well, its in alpha & not forge yet I think. I assume eventually once forge comes out & GLSL shaders 1.8 isn't alpha it'll be compatible.
I'd like to report a major bug found in OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_U_B4. Apologies if this is not the correct place to do so. If this should be posted elsewhere, please let me know.
The problem occurs in a single player map opened for LAN play:
1. Start Minecraft with OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_U_B4.
2. start/create a single player world
3. Open the map to LAN
4. on another pc, join the LAN game (doesn't matter if Optifine is installed on the client)
Now, the bug: when the first player (host) moves far enough away from the second player (client), all the mobs around the second player will stop moving. The second player is essentially moving around in a frozen world.
When playing MC 1.8.1 WITHOUT Optifine, no such problem exists.
This problem did not exist in 1.7.x of Optifine.
I don't want this issue to get lost. LAN play is BROKEN in OptiFine -- this is a major bug. Can I get acknowledgement of this issue?

[/EDIT]
I uninstalled all java. I did try it with just 8 update 25 last night after I uninstalled 7u80 but I figured out my Chrome version was 32-bit so it kept trying to download 32-bit java. I upgraded to 64-bit chrome so now I get the 64-bit version of java when I update to latest. However, 64-bit 8u25 made things far worse. I logged in and couldn't BARELY move, it was ridiculous.
From the OP... I'm not sure if he's too lazy to update it or if he still recommends this version (I sure wish modders would update their darn posts an KEEP them updated!)
In case you didn't see @ShadowofElements post, he linked this post that has some ways. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/unmodified-minecraft-client/tutorials-and-faqs/1871656-complete-guide-on-how-to-speed-up-minecraft
Could you show me where you saw this? I'm generally curious... I've NEVER heard of this and feel like you must be mistaken.
Confusing block distance with chunk distance I think
Everfree Server - A small & friendly survival build server for older 'Crafters.
Here is the picture I was basing it off of. (although its really old since it still has texture packs)

Yeah it was in blocks, or really a mix of both vanilla's vague distance "far" + Optifine adding to it with block distance.

This is compatible with GLSL shaders, & recommended too. Unless you're talking about the alpha 1.8 version, and thats because, well, its in alpha & not forge yet I think. I assume eventually once forge comes out & GLSL shaders 1.8 isn't alpha it'll be compatible.
You might have to try one of those rendering programs for something that size.

Darn. I was hoping for in game :l
I don't want this issue to get lost. LAN play is BROKEN in OptiFine -- this is a major bug. Can I get acknowledgement of this issue?
You could always use MineWays and render what you get there in Cinema 4d?
Never arbitrary,
