It's kinda old but it sounds like my problem. This is probably the cause of most of the problems Mac users are having. I'll post again later to confirm that it worked.
Hmm, it doesn't crash anymore but Mumble works like it does without MumbleLink. I'm sure the settings are configured properly so I don't know why it isn't working. I have friends with the same settings on Windows and its on working for them. Nevermind, just had to enable the headphones setting
Change Log:
v4.1.2
- updated for Minecraft 1.8 (Forge 11.14.0.1268)
- compiled with Java 6 (this should help the apple users with old JREs)
- fixed bug: initializer thread tries continuously without a wait (inserted 1 second delay before retrying to find mumble)
- added missing LICENSE.txt to the jar
Good news to Apple users: Java 1.6 compatibility is back. So no more crashing because of UnsupportedClassVersionError.
Mod-Packs:
Generally you are free to distribute it with your private (or public, or commercial) mod-packs as specified by LGPLv3.
That being said, it virtually means no restrictions apply except that you should inform users that your mod-pack contains this mod and that it is licensed under LGPLv3.
Feel free to drop a note and a link in this thread. It might give you some more users and I simply am curious to see where it is used (totally optional!).
The MicDoodleCore incompatibility has not yet been fixed.
So the game crashes pretty much instantly. I have latest forge etc but no luck. Can anyone help?

Thestickman391, thanks for the detailed report. I am suspecting that there is a problem with java 8 because I haven't tested it yet.
But something else is fishy: you are only having 4 mods loaded. It appears that "Minecraft Forge" itself is missing (there is only MCP and FML + MumbleLink and its addon). This explains why MumbleLink crashes, when it cannot find it's dependency. There might be a more basic problem with your installation of forge rather than MumbleLink.
to be honest I am not sure. The server needs to support sending the additional data but I am unsure whether that can be turned off. So there is a little chance that it might have been the server but I think it is unlikely. The mumble installer comes with murmur which is the server for mumble. It is fairly easy to set up and if you are both in a LAN you should be able to connect.
It is more common for one of the two testers to not have mumble configured properly (see step 4 of the setup). Most common is that the positional plugin is disabled. If the plugin doesn't work for only one of you then you both won't hear the effect. Also note that there is a delay before the positional effect kicks in. This however should not take longer than 10 seconds though.
I installed the 1.8 version, installed forge, and i have mumble and optifine.
I had quickly scanned through the code to find it was only your mod malfunctioning.
I'm not sure why this happens, if you know please inform me

It crashes immediately after the "Mojang" splash screen, before the "Minecraft" title screen with the buttons. Minecraft Forge 10.13.2.1277 and 10.13.2.1284 ("Latest" for 1.7.10 as of this post) also crash with the same MumbleLink-1.7.10-4.1.1-2b3035b.jar. All three versions of Minecraft Forge loaded perfectly when MumbleLink was not in the /mods/ folder. Mumble was open before opening Minecraft.
Ubuntu 10.10 is the only version that was said to be the testbed for MumbleLink on Linux, but Ubuntu 14.10 is the most recent version of the OS. However, versions 14.04 and 12.04 are "long-term support" (LTS) releases and probably have more users.

You are running 32 bit Ubuntu but JNA (a framework that MumbleLink uses) is trying to load libraries that are 64-bit.
It could be that JNA thinks it is being run in a 64-bit environment. Thus it is trying to load the (wrong) 64-bit libs.
Currently in-use version of JNA is 4.0.0, maybe there is a fix for that in 4.1.0 but instead of going for 4.1.0 of JNA I am more likely to go for BridJ instead.
There are a few things you can try (I don't have an Ubuntu available right now).
give a more detailed crash log by setting the system property
jna.debug_load=true
and trying again
run the JVM in 32-bit mode explicitly (use the
-d32
command-line option)
try using an Oracle certified JRE or JDK (1.7_06) [i think this has the best chance of fixing your problem]
Is it possible to use this when the users do not have the same nickname in MC as they have in Mumble?
Good question. Yes it will still work because the mod's addon "ExtendedPASupport" sends the Minecraft nick name as part of the "identity" along with the positional data anyways.
It's kinda old but it sounds like my problem. This is probably the cause of most of the problems Mac users are having. I'll post again later to confirm that it worked.
Check this out: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/webnotes/install/mac/mac-preferences.html
Also note that you should be able to change the $PATH or $JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to jre7 instead of 6.

Try Forge 11.14.0.1268 from http://files.minecraftforge.net/minecraftforge//1.8
Which version of forge have you downloaded and where from?

Forge 11.14.0.1268 from http://files.minecraftforge.net/minecraftforge//1.8 has been successfully tested.
Edit: if you had issues with certain versions (specifically ones after Forge build 1268) please let me know which version/build number it was.

Interesting idea but that is something you should suggest to the mumble devs since the mumble client is responsible for all the audio processing.

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.5.3) (7u71-2.5.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1)
OpenJDK Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)
Ubuntu 10.10 is the only version that was said to be the testbed for MumbleLink on Linux, but Ubuntu 14.10 is the most recent version of the OS. However, versions 14.04 and 12.04 are "long-term support" (LTS) releases and probably have more users.
That's a really good report, thanks.
The clue lies within
You are running 32 bit Ubuntu but JNA (a framework that MumbleLink uses) is trying to load libraries that are 64-bit.

Good question. Yes it will still work because the mod's addon "ExtendedPASupport" sends the Minecraft nick name as part of the "identity" along with the positional data anyways.
