Dude you get a medal for beating this load of crap. You should watch Rock's flythrough of the last area on his twitch page its effing hilarious his reactions.
Already watched it, it's what got me to complete this map (nightmare) in the first place.
Also, I should've put at certain points in the review "but wait, there's more!" just for the sake of it.
Edit: I think I'm gonna link rockenroll4life's twitch video to my review just so others can see what it's like.
Edit 2: Does anyone know what happened to the video? I just went on his Twitch to look for it, and it's gone.
Nevermind, we have our answer. Thanks for that, TechAnimation.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what all these "rules" and "restrictions" are for. To me it seems like you guys are saying "you have to tick all these boxes to make it an actual CTM", to me this makes no sense. At it's core a CTM map is just that: a map about completing the monument. To me any map that has this can be classified as a CTM. It seems to me that you guys might just be scared to try something new, that's why you've put all these rules and requirements. You've looked at a couple of the really epic and classic CTMs and decided that a map must be like that to be a good CTM. This quickly led to the belief that anything else can not possibly be classed as a CTM, because it is different and does not confine to the norm. This has led to you CTM makers/players becoming kind of a walled off community, you're so used to what you are comfortable with it is difficult for others to join in. If someone comes along with a new idea the idea's creator is quickly informed that he is "wrong" or "isn't making a real CTM". So far I haven't found any bullying here (thank god) but I am fairly new here, so I can not be completely sure. I think if someone wants to try something new, why not? If it doesn't work, so be it. If it does, then s/he may have just made something fun, new, and possibly even revolutionary.
Just some food for though
It's a genre. They're not "rules of restrictions", they're just the building blocks (hahaimfunny) of what makes a CTM map a CTM map. You don't release a Survival map and call it a Puzzle map because you want to. You don't release a Parkour map and call it a CTM. There's some specific boxes to tick, yes, that let players identify a map as a specific genre and when you go outside that, yeah it does stop being a "real CTM". CTM is classified as an evolution of a Survival map that gives the player freedom while creating a set of goals. Removing the whole core of breaking and placing blocks removes a key aspect of what makes a CTM map.
We wouldn't classify things as genres if they didn't work. They help people find things to play that they're interested in and lying to your audience about your genre (not accusing, mind) just means the target audience won't find your map at all.

Community Question: Everyone who has completed a map, how did you guys stay motivated and not quit mapmaking/start a new project? Any help would be appreciated.

Whenever I lost motivation I went ahead and made two copies of my map in its current state. Then, I alpha-tested one of the copies and had fun seeing how other players might enjoy my map. Even if it looked bad, I told myself I wasn't making this map so that others can tell me if it was bad or not. I was making this map so that hopefully at least someone, even if it was myself, could enjoy playing it.
Also, remember to take breaks. Play another map. Play another game entirely. Watch a movie. Go out with your friends. Breaks are always necessary (unless you're being forced to make maps in a basement and they feed you by tossing crackers down to you once a day).
Remember to have fun. If you're not having fun with your map, maybe take an extended break until you feel you want to work on it again. And always remember that unless you're playing a Jam map, there's no deadline for you. You don't have any expectations as to when you can finish it. You don't even need to finish/release it if you don't want to. It's your choice, nothing else.
tl;dr
-play other maps
-play other games
-do other stuff
-don't forget nobody is requiring you to do anything with your map
(Unless you're being forced to make maps in a basement and they feed you by tossing crackers down to you once a day).
What the hell do you mean by "they"...I don't even have any faith left in humanity anymore.
My answer to the community question would just be to play other CTM maps, and to take frequent breaks. The only reason why I don't get stressed over map-making is due to little breaks I take and the ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL HAPPY FUN AMAZING CTM COMMUNITY. <3

Embarrassingly low standards. I was also afking Castle Wars on RS for my trimmed completionist cape so I had all the time in the world to kill, mapmaking worked well with it.
For my second map, which I'll get back to working on in a couple months, I'll try and raise my standards and motivation by making some sort of dev vlog series for youtube... like record some mapmaking and make a series out of it. Sure, there'll be spoilers... but it'd be fun to make and motivate me to make progress regularly.

hahahahahahaha. But generally? I play other maps and get cool ideas from that. If I have ideas I want to work with, I make them sometimes and see if they're better than a current area to replace it.

Now hold on one second... You're a trimmed comper?
Created a small spawn cavern by hollowing out a gravel deposit. I replaced the stone around it with granite, but how to get the next 100 blocks or so as a big granite chunk?

Ok. I will make a CTM. However, think of it as a really basic/bad one. I suck at this sort of thing.
I'll start the planning tomorrow!
Everyone makes a bad first CTM map and especially a bad Strawberry Jam map. No worries.

Why are you speaking as if you completed a map?

Thus the "hahahahahaha"

I'm sorry, but I couldn't stop myself from doing this.
