This gets a little specific in places, just a few ideas, really what you want to do is distract to player from all the ugly (or bland). I don't really know what your theme is, so maybe a lot of this stuff wont work out. Just suggestions/ideas.
- Lighting can really spice up an area- make it feel more natural, maybe a bit more of that. (don't over do it.)
- You could also vary the textures of the tree, like different log variants.
- You could add some dead logs on the floor, or more dead stumps.
- Maybe a few piles of cobble on the ground.
- Definitely break up the monotony on the ceiling. Adding some kind of vine, or stalactite.
- Varying the dirt layer might not be a bad idea either.
Also the more pics spoiler is empty for me. So I couldn't see any of the other perspectives.
So I could use some help with Monstrosity and this seems as good a place as any to ask...
We accidentally blew up the brown wool... oops. There's supposedly a spare box under the rail track but we haven't been able to find it. did we lose the map?
Hi guys! I have been lurking in this thread for a long time, almost three years now (you might remember me as Joni11101). Now i got a new computer and I can finally start creating ctm maps (already started working on one!)
Back on topic, I found an app called Crafters amino. It is very similar to twitter, but mostly for Minecraft discussion. I think we should open a CTM chatting room in the app, what do you think?

Look under the sign that says something like "Are you scared yet". I believe that the spare brown wool is under there.
Actually the best looking areas /should/ be near the start from a designers perspective.
Think about it, if you start off a map surrounded in areas that look really meh, you'll give up and get bored, and therefore never see the amazing areas that happen to be at the end. It's a commonly criticised thing in the games industry, some games really don't get this and it's sad. Compare that idea to the start of the Fallouts, or Elder scrolls, each game starts with a gorgeous set piece.
(Skyrim especially, within 10 minutes of loading the game up you see an ENORMOUS dragon sieging a town and run through burning wreckage)
It's something that is prevalent in the writing industry as well, you have to start with something good to get the reader hooked on reading on. Books that have awesome finales but spend the first 100 pages introducing new characters around a dinner table never get finished.
Of course, the best solution is to make it ALL pretty, but y'all don't have time for that
Actually what I mean is everyone has such unique areas for their first map, meanwhile for me I am trying to think of something "unique" and all I can think of is reusing the same stone/grass/forest area

In case anyone's interested, I'm about to start streaming some Pantheon Continuing my playthrough I started two weeks ago. Will have four hours of it then moving on to other games, I'll be on 12 hours in total raising money for Extra Life and Children's Miracle Network hospitals
If you want to come watch:
I'll be on from 2PM till 6PM US Central Time with Pantheon.
Thanks for anyone who stopped by, moving on to Town of Salem now, was a lot of fun doing Pantheon
Still a WIP. My first idea was to have just four pillars and paths in between.. Simply to say I found I needed to make it bigger. Now there are 27 pillars. Just solving the puzzle to make it all flow and still full with stuff. When done with all I will blow some up to give it an older look.
Hello!, Maybe you think that I am new in the CTM map making, but, yes I am, but I am pretty good building CTM maps now.. I started doing miniCTMs but they were bad, (last one was normal). Now I started a new project that is a FULL CTM Some spoilers!
How was my old CTMs
My new FULL CTM
I have more images but, I don't want to put too much spoilers

Greetings, inferior individuals and Fangride. I have recently come upon a most bewildering quandary of great magnitude, and my desperation is such that I am requesting even the assistance of such plebeians as you. I have as of late been attempting to make use of World Machine, but have been unable to discern precisely how to import my creations of the aforementioned apparatus into WorldPainter. Any and all assistance is appreciated, and failure to do so will result in the greatest CTM map of all time never being released.
I'm not a good mapmaker so I wouldn't trust my opinion or anything,
but try to add more block variation as it seems your only using one block on the ground level (which is dirt)
It also seems to me that you may have a lack of foliage to add some "pizazz" to the area.
Play around with it, I am sure you can get it
Looking nice!

No it's just something I was working on offhand
You know, the starting area doesn't have to be the best-looking area. The best looking areas should be near the end.
Look under the sign that says something like "Are you scared yet". I believe that the spare brown wool is under there.

@Tato:
Not enough branch pattern IMO
LOUDER I CAN'T HEAR YOU
What? A redwool dungeon that isn't firey and nether like? How can this be?
Oh wow! Red wool already? I remember you announced the start of the map development like it was just a month or two ago...
BTW, this was my exact reaction whenever Krose shows new screenshots. Just change the "red wool" to the respective color of wool
What do you mean?
Hey all peeps. Tato, like that look..and there seems to be a lot of death you have planned. Is that normal? ^__^
Anywho, I am thinking of streaming in about 30 minutes-gotta take a shower, get something to eat. Hope to see you then.
Strawpoll for second map to be played: http://strawpoll.me/4558996
Edit: Starting now, sorry.
