Ticking Chill (V 1.7) for 1.8.1
Difficulty: 4 Overall Enjoyment: 9
Comments:
Ticking Chill is by far one my my favorite CTMs I have ever played. The cool (pun intended) temperature mechanic constantly kept you thinking about what you have to do. Since there is no gravel in the map, it's not possible to make any flint and steel so you have to use the limited amount of "Emergency Flames" (Fire Charges) to make it through each area. It forces you to keep moving while keeping you at a slower pace than you would normally play at.
The gameplay in most of the areas was amazing. The constant torrent of mobs that are coming at you from every corner keep you on edge. The custom items that are at your disposal are efficient and powerful, but that has a limit with the amount of mobs coming at you. The only problem I had with this map was the final area (blue wool) where there were just a ton of spawner spam with mobs that easily knock you down to the bottom of the area where the wool box was with about 15 spawners guarding it.
The aesthetics were impressive to say the least. I loved the feel of dark and cold that moldy was able to convey through the environment. The buildings in the map were built so well they could have had at least a week spent on them, but moldy managed to make it in a day.
The whole mechanic behind the map was impressive to say the least, even though Xhen ( or however his name is spelled) had a similar mechanic in his map. I loved the asethetics, the gameplay, and loot was always plentiful. Pretty much, if you have an hour or so to burn, then I would recommend this map. I'm really looking forward to Moldy's full CTM. Thanks for making an awesome map!
This was my first CTM I've managed to complete. Really. I mean it. Browneye, if you say anything I will... nevermind. Anyways, here's my first victory pic!
youre trying too hard, spending more than an hour on an area is a waste of time
I completely (and respectfully) disagree with that. No map should be thrown together with a set time limit, if you know an artist they'll tell you time is not a factor, that also applies to mapmaking
The only change I made from the version in the Jam was adding some signs to let players less familiar with CTMs know the rules. Thanks to everyone who has tried it so far, and thanks for the review Chipmunk.
What do you guys use to make customized mobs in 1.8? Do you make them with MCEdit filters? Or do it with mods?
- Also, I hate how command blocks don't support colored data in summon/give commands. 1.9 should let you summon a bad guy via command block with colored names and lores.

I've placed all loot throughout the map, except for the black wool area (20-25 chests to fill ugh). Then I'll simply need to tweak spawner placement for the entire map. And write the rules. Then maybe I'll tweak biomes a little.
I was debating vines on the trees, since there are vines coming down from the walls I thought it would be fitting, but possibly too much (the vines haven't grown fully yet and I haven't found a filter for it). This is most likely going to be the spawn, however I had some other good ideas for it, what do you guys think of it?
I like it, acacia trees gives it a great touch, the leaves combine perfectly with the lime clay. I don't like the endstone-lapis combination tho, besides that everything is good. I recommend putting some glowstone at the bottom of the lake.

Ah! a perfect plac try out those new water lamp thingies! And thanks for the feedback, 'preciate it
EDIT i do agree with you not liking the walls, just not sure what else to put, maybe a variety of stone bricks would be nice to finish the theme of the area
This is going to be te monument area for my next map Inert Empire (it's not finished)
This is the orange wool area for other full map I'm doing on my boring times.
This was going to be the white wool for my Strawberry Jam entry but I couldn't finish it in time, so I'm going to use it for the boring times CTM.
I like it, the second and third areas look great, but i especially like the monument room, the mixture of blocks and glowdtone on only some parts of the wall turned out really nicely!
now can you make a mod that increase the height limit. ty bby
The mod is about 70 lines long to patch 4 lines of bytecode, which is like 1/4th of a line. There's no way I can patch your entire minecraft everytime you boot. For one it would take forever to startup, and I don't feel like writing that either.
And no, I can't just patch the code manually since I can't share the code itself
I lost the world of my full-scale CTM map "Hell in Sky"
But now I work on a remake of this map "Hell In the Sky II"
Here is a screenshot of the first area:
How can i make big areas for ctm maps? Maybe with any 3 party tool or with my hands or what???please answer me
You can use a third party tool like single player commands or mcedit, but most people regard this as cheating and people won't really approve of your map here. Most of the popular maps are popular because their creators spent time handplacing every block. Otherwise it's hard to ensure quality.

It is actually very easy, go to this website: http://www.mcedit.net/ and download the latest version of mcedit, it has all kinds of tools and gadgets to help you with mapmaking. I also recommend watching this video: <---- that is a video by vechs (I assume you know who he is) you don't need to watch all of it to understand it, but he will explain most of the features in mcedit
an alternative is world painter, I have only heard of this though, I have no experience with it so I can't say much other than this about it.
mcedit brush clear a big square, schematic import a wool, then filter the room so that the floor is spawners
i just made the next big thing

I write them by hand.

@Taschneide, here's a chunk of code I wrote for converting Item data tags to strings, you might be able to conver it.

There I got your attention ;-)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/hx1s5oidvh3m25k/Colored Section Signs-1.0.jar
There we go, Colored Section Signs mod.
It allows you to copy-paste in § signs without using an external editor.
It does need to be tested, since I only have my own PC to test it on.
Requires latest Forge Modloader for it to work. Install forge, put the jar in .minecraft\mods (create the folder if there isn't one yet).
Have fun! Took me quite a while to get through the bytecode hell
