1. Not going to happen.
2. Future version; however, we don't encourage you using "parts". This is called unoriginality. Skins posted using parts will get deleted on most sites (I'm a site moderator at PlanetMinecraft - we don't allow skins made with part pickers there). MCSkin3D's focus is originality.

Ok, so I use my base skin to make different multiplay custom maps, but you wont integrate an option for me to put my 100% original skin into different original outfits? I dont want to have to replicate all my pixels just because you don't want to. I advise you to reconsider. So far, this tool has been an amazing help, but if that is your stance, Im slightly concerned about using it in the future.
Just some constructive criticism.

Ah, so a use that may indeed actually be useful! I apologize for sounding so crass during my initial reply. The people that ask me for part pickers generally are the ones who only intend to use it for the purpose of quickly mashing together skin parts to upload and claim they made it, and I jumped to that conclusion. I hope you can forgive me. :smile.gif:
Basically, here's the way I look at it: I moderate a site which gets a hundred or so skin reports a day from people who are using programs like NovaSkin or SkinCraft, clicking a few parts and then uploading it claiming they made it. It happens a lot more often than any of us really want to believe. Personally, I believe that the implementing this feature will only cause this program to be put in the same category as these ones, essentially being tools skinners can use along with a library of "parts" to mix and match skins, facilitating stealing. Heck, the sample skins in MCSkin3D have already been uploaded to many sites; some that are way out of our control, and luckily some that actually listen to copyright (such as PlanetMinecraft) and remove the skins which are obviously copyrighted to our artist and used without permission (unedited; the license for the skins allow them to be used freely once they have been edited beyond a certain point).
While the program may never (I say may because one planned feature is plugin support, and developing a plugin for a part picker wouldn't be difficult) exactly have an official "part picker", version 1.4 has a Copy/Paste tool planned. This is probably the closest you'll get to something like a part picker, at least for the time being.
I appreciate the criticism, and it does not go unnoticed; we're careful to weigh both positives and negatives to features we skim by.
If you have any other concerns about my decision, please don't hesitate to bring them up.

I appreciate the thoughtful reply. What I wanted most out of my original post was to be able to copy and paste parts of my skins together. I really appreciate the replys. I never realized how much copying was going on! I truly feel for you. I love my work, and I just want to apologize for the harsh reply. I am now more than exited to use this program for 1.4!!!

Okay, I might give it a try but still skin edit does on need updating. It's perfect the way it is. Also MCSkin3D is still in beta so it wont be 100%.
I don't want to start an argue just have some questions.
Why is it good to have a program that is outdated? Or is maybe the "bottom face flip" issue addressed in the program?
As of beta. Well Skinedit is ALPHA (topic title says it too).
I think I can say this in Parils name too: I really hope you also try this one out. And if you have anything to say about it, even if it is criticism don't hold back.

The texture flip was intentional. I've confirmed this in a direct email communication with Jens. He says it was one of the last changes Notch made and he was specifically instructed not to fix it, but he's sorry for any trouble it caused. It was actually bugged the way it was before and should have always been configured for the existing format.
So we have direct confirmation that it's not a bug. It also applies to all the bottom polygon surfaces, so for a char.png based model, that would be the top-right texture or more specifically the head-layer bottom (neck), the hat-layer bottom (neck proxy), torso bottom (nether regions), arm bottom (fingertips), and leg bottom (foot sole).
So yes, Paril, you may go ahead and update your program as this change is validated permanent. If you'd like to see a copy of the email, contact me at [email protected] and I'll be glad to forward it to you.

My reply was harsher, don't worry about it. :smile.gif:
made my first attempt at a custom skin from scratch today. finished it, had a look on interwebs to see what other offerings there were in the same flavour...long story short, my skills are not all that great lol...program was really good though, the hybrid view is especially nice for the editing
Thanks! Eh, don't worry about it, I'm not a skinner either. I haven't even bothered attempting. :smile.gif:

SkinEdit hasn't been touched since April, really. It is using an outdated software renderer, it does not render skins 100% properly (MCSkin3D uses GL, the same renderer as Minecraft). MCSkin3D 1.3 is not beta; MCSkin3D 1.4 IS beta, and is for end-users to test the new features.
As someone said below you, SkinEdit has been in Alpha for a LONG time. MCSkin3D 1.3 and below are _final_ versions.

Agreed. Don't let the program hold you just because you like one program better. We strive on opinions and people giving honest tries. A lot of people were very ignorant to try us, and when we got popular decided to finally give us a try and haven't looked back since.

I got your PM, and replied accordingly. Thanks!
Funny thing though; I have my program set right now to force an invert of all bottom faces (0 -1 0), but the bottom of the head in Minecraft not affected by this change. It's all very strange.
hey I am having trouble. i can start the program but when i click on the big area where the person would normal be i get an uh oh! when i saved it this is what it says when i open the saved file.

See, the boxes for the wings are kinda.. well, shared. The overlay is done on the fly, so if parts overlap it will basically draw overtop of them.
The horn looks fine though, try setting the Font Size down in the Dynamic Overlay Options.
EDIT: I see, I accidentally set the default font size to 2; should have been 1. Try setting the Text Size in View < 2D < Dynamic Overlay Options to 1.
-P
Ahhh now i see. It looked like some of glitch because all the fonts were tangled. Thanks :biggrin.gif:Also if you go to the medium magma cube seems to be previewed under the grass surface. If this was intentional sorry for pointing it out.
Here a pic of it after I zoomed through the surface.
I have an issue with the latest beta. When I start it up, my skins are upside down and the skins are like..inside out? Not really sure the best way to describe it. It's odd.
