I've got a few more I'm planning out at the moment. All comic themed, so far.
Right now I'm thinking: Ultimate Spider-Man (slightly more cartoony looking), scruffy Wolverine, and possibly Ghost from the Thunderbolts.

As far as mods go, I don't blame you. Mods are just a pain in the ass for this game.
I spent months messing around with them, trying to keep numerous mods updated and compatible, and it was a headache. I had finally settled on only using Millenaire, Single Player Commands, and Nature Overhaul, before I found the HD skin mod.
I immediately just said "screw it" and uninstalled them all for the HD skins.
It doesn't bother me having to only keep the one mod up to date, but I mostly play in a multiplayer server now, so I don't have the need for all the multitudes of SP game-changing mods. I can still see how adding it into an already large list of installed mods would be a pain, but honestly, that can be said of every mod.
Plus, I've should mention, so far the HD skin mod has been a huge hit with everyone I've introduced it to.
I play on the ProjectClanilla server, and since spreading word of the mod, it's become a mainstay for everyone on the server! It's actually almost funny how fast HD skin-mania spread through the server. We've got new HD skin creators popping up now, too. So it's not just me and people basically making their own personal skins.
You can see how it could really catch on in the small communities that are individual servers.
To be completely honest though, I think with the right support from the community, the mod could become as mandatory as the HD texture patcher!
(Actually now that I think about it, if the 2 could merge, it would be perfect, and fitting. the HD patcher's install program should fix compatibility issues too...)
All that's really needed is some attention, and a place to actually keep them all together, like an HD Skin section on PlanetMinecraft, or such.
um i know this might push you but can you please update to 1.6.4 because i really would like a HD skin no pressure

Wow amazing i love how creative people are with mods it makes me think some day modders will take over the minecraft company and keep it running its just awesome how you modders come up with this stuff i am not being hater but im not all up for hd skins but there a good idea i think if you keep expanding this you will get far keep going with it love the idea!
Is there any site with free hd skins to download? I don't wanna skin made for me, cause I don't want anything specific. I just wanna browse and download or not. And I'm changing skins very often. I just put a file to resource pack and I don't use minecraft.net to upload a skin. I don't play online, so I don't care if anybody see my skin, or not.

The HD skins do work on multiplayer, but the other players need the HD skins mod installed as well to see them.
