HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN HD SKINS:
Obviously, it takes a little more time and effort to create and HD skin than it does a simple 16x32 default skin. But, with a little patience, anyone can have their own customized HD skin to be proud of!To that end, I've put together a series of HD skin templates for anyone to use as a starting point. They can all be downloaded HEREI've also thrown together a forum thread with various skinning resources anyone can use to make HD skins. Find it HERE

In all honesty, I'm by no means a rich person. And almost every moment I'm not at work is spent working on vonDoomCraft. There's also not a single texture in here so far that took less than 6 hours to create.I hope it shows; As artistically vonDoomCraft is the largest art project I've ever worked on, and has become somewhat of my Magnum Opus! At this point, I believe I've spent more time actually creating textures for Minecraft than I have actually playing Minecraft. While I'd never go so far as to say that people need to pay me for my work on vDC, obviously any and all donations are greatly appreciated! Be they $2 or $20,000.And believe me, I understand that times are tough. So if you wish to help support vDC non-monetarily, really all you have to do is spread the word a bit! Tell your friends who play Minecraft about vDC, maybe wear a signature. There's plenty of ways to help out, and I'd like to thank everyone out there already doing such!

Nice stuff. I don't do HD skins personally, because not everyone knows how to install the mods, but I used to use them. Then, I got tired of updating mods every time a release was made.
Love it and it's nice to see you on the site again. Hope you're recovering from your annoyances!
Thank you very much!
And I'm glad you're liking them!
I've got a few more I'm planning out at the moment. All comic themed, so far.
Right now I'm thinking: Ultimate Spider-Man (slightly more cartoony looking), scruffy Wolverine, and possibly Ghost from the Thunderbolts.
I'll toss up some sketches when details are more finalized.

Thanks! I'm a huge fan of your normal res comic skins, by the way! Your Iron Fist is especially awesome! And I love the fact that you made Ghost! really, thumbs up!
As far as mods go, I don't blame you. Mods are just a pain in the ass for this game.
I spent months messing around with them, trying to keep numerous mods updated and compatible, and it was a headache. I had finally settled on only using Millenaire, Single Player Commands, and Nature Overhaul, before I found the HD skin mod.
I immediately just said "screw it" and uninstalled them all for the HD skins.
It doesn't bother me having to only keep the one mod up to date, but I mostly play in a multiplayer server now, so I don't have the need for all the multitudes of SP game-changing mods. I can still see how adding it into an already large list of installed mods would be a pain, but honestly, that can be said of every mod.
Plus, I've should mention, so far the HD skin mod has been a huge hit with everyone I've introduced it to.
I play on the ProjectClanilla server, and since spreading word of the mod, it's become a mainstay for everyone on the server! It's actually almost funny how fast HD skin-mania spread through the server. We've got new HD skin creators popping up now, too. So it's not just me and people basically making their own personal skins.
You can see how it could really catch on in the small communities that are individual servers.
To be completely honest though, I think with the right support from the community, the mod could become as mandatory as the HD texture patcher!
(Actually now that I think about it, if the 2 could merge, it would be perfect, and fitting. the HD patcher's install program should fix compatibility issues too...)
All that's really needed is some attention, and a place to actually keep them all together, like an HD Skin section on PlanetMinecraft, or such.
Same way you make normal skins. Gimp, photoshop, Fireworks, even MSPaint. Anything that can save a .png can make a skin. I was going to try my hand at installing this mod and making an HD skin for myself later tonight.
That's what I like about new mods. You get new artists or ideas popping up and even more choices and selections. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. If truth be told I've seen the thread but I actually passed it by - I guess we just need to see what's possible and you've certainly done that. Also, if you start taking requests I'd be glad to tip an artist such as yourself for custom skin in your style. Not that I wouldn't for your public or mob skins you understand! :smile.gif:
To be completely honest, I saw a while back and passed it over too! It wasn't until I was working on my HD mobs that I thought "wait a minute... wasn't there a mod for HD character skins?! I'd much rather be doing those!"
And yeah, I'm hoping these skins help other folks realize the possibilities of this mod too!
If I didn't think the mod was worth it, and could potentially be huge one day, I wouldn't bother putting in the approximately 8 hours it takes to make each skin.
As for a custom skin, yeah, unfortunately I'm pretty backlogged with textures I'm working on at the moment. I've got about 6 character skins to finish, that damn HD mobs Spider, and an HD server painting pack; So I have no idea when I'll even be available to do requests. But at the very least, if you give me the details, I'll sketch something up for you.
Even if I can't get around to the skin, maybe someone else could work off of it.

Pretty much.
I actually use Corel Paintshop Pro.
As far as details go, all the shawod and linework is done as vector layers.
I also recently took took the time to make a complete, shaded, human musculature template for the Minecraft human model, so now I can use that for any super heroes or such I make (it's in use in the Deadpool and Cap skins now)
And I can't wait to see what you come up with!
At this moment, I know of only 2 other people that make HD skins, so any artists getting interested is great!
I'll get some details sorted and stick up a suggestion at one point, but wow yeah 8 hours per skin is insane so I fully understand your situation and it's much better that the whole community benefit rather than 1 individual. Appreciate your work and I look forward to your upcoming release and/or server teasers and not to forget that damn spider :biggrin.gif:
Cool, just let me know when you've got it all set, and I'll do a sketch for you!
As for teasers...
I've got some sketches of my planned upcoming skins:
Ultimate Spider-Man
"Astonishing" Wolverine
Custom skin for my brother. I'll make a slightly less cool version for public release!
Man-Thing!
(my favorite fiction character of all time, whom I've never had the chance to make a skin of!)
Ghost, of the Thunderbolts.
I'll probably continue releasing them in waves of 3; with 2 comic skins, and one non-comic one.
Honestly, Galactus is the one character i'd most like to do, but the human Minecraft model just wouldn't work with it.
In a perfect world, there'd be a mod that gave you like a 0.1% chance of spawning a giant Galactus (with a new, big headed, model), and it would give you like 4 minecraft days to put together an "Ultimate Nulifier" and destroy him, or a huge piece of your save would be destroyed. A few "I hungeeeeer" sound clips, and you've got an A+ mod.
But alas, Minecraft is apparently just not cool enough to get its world devoured.
Thanks everybody!
I'm glad you're all enjoying the HD skins! Honestly, they've already gotten more downloads than I thought there were people using the mod!
On another note, I finished your sketch up, Pixel!
Hey Great Skins! I love the doctor doom (too bad it non-public ;.:wink.gif: anyway i noticed that you are making some thunder bolt skins. I'm a big fan of them! My favorite would have to be either Swordsman, crossbones, or Ghost! Love your skins great work!

P.S. - you don't happen to play Xbox Live under the gamertag Doc Trioxin, do you?
Wow, do I look like an asshole.
It was actually your Taskmaster, Red Skull, and Ultra marine I really liked!
Everything else still goes though!
Also, no, I never used that name for Xbox.

As a matter of fact, it is! I think I'll include a Nosferatu (V:tM) HD skin in the Man-Thing & ghost wave. It could be the "creepy pack"!
